  • Great playing. I see that you are an avid Portnoy fan. How do you feel about his departure and Mike Mangini in the band?

  • Playing Drums, Dream Theater, and wearing a Beatles shirt at the same time? Too much awesome for one man alone to handle.

  • Amazing! Love it!

  • Amazing! Ending is just perfect!! :):):)

  • Você tirou a música toda de ouvido ou foi com partitura?

  • BCSL medley please!!

  • EHI MAN, WHERE DID YOU FIND THE TRACKS WITHOUT DRUMS?

  • My Section you did is "The Ministry of Lost Souls" Maybe just cause you did my favorite part from that song i think from the entire album

  • Probably the best play along I've seen yet on youtube. Keep up the good work, it's guys like you who can inspire people all over the world.

  • truly inspirational bro. yes.

  • Nice Sound :) i really enjoy the sound and the mixes too. Nice job.Greetings from Turkey.

  • im suggesting you to dream theater, seriously, check their facebook page

  • @HateCrew119 Thanks but what about their facebook page?

  • @JeffrayFiset nah just to prove it, go to where it says Dream theater + fans

  • @JeffrayFiset Y cherchais un drummer... :P!! Mais la y l'ont ser Mike Mangini!!!! Jpense que tu le savais déjà... ?

  • CARACAA! You play drums so good :O

  • s'tait pas pire pantoute :D si tu veux je peux jouer de la guitare et ensuite mixer les vidéos ? Sa serait intéressant... comme le projet split-screen VRA

  • Whats the song from 0:15 to 4:20?

  • Très bien!! cela a été parfait!! j'adorerais voir plus de vidéo!!... simplement excellent! (tu devrais faire un medley de Black Clouds & Silver Linings :P) c'est seulment mon opinion.. Continuez-le! (Sorry for my french, I'm still learning xD)

  • @Xantt666 Thanks for both of your comments. I'm planning on making new videos but I'll only do them in the winter because I have more time. I'm working on a song by Antoine Dufour and Tommy Gauthier right now. I'll refine the drums tracks until they are as perfect as I want them to be. Anyway, subscribe and you'll know when I have new videos out.

    Thanks to everyone ;-)

  • @JeffrayFiset Suscribed :D

  • what's that song at 1:47? I haven't heard that before

  • @krazYFaic The Ministry of Lost Souls

  • hey man!

you really are still so very good

  • hey man!!

you really are still so very good

  • Tres bon! This playing is articulated excellently, you are a very determined musician.

  • your drums sound exactly as portnoy´s, how did you reach that sound? or the sound we are hearing is from your cymbals? and the rest is from mike portnoy´s cd sound....

  • @portnoy2045 I don't have any special tip. I have a good drum and try to tune it the best I can prior to recording. A common error on youtube is to mix the drums too loud. Because I made every snare hit, every tom and fill as close to Portnoy as it was humainly possible for me, both drums blend pretty well together.

I recorded with 4 tracks. It was then possible to adjust toms / bass drum/ snare/ overheads independantly with a pretty decent mix.

    Thanks everybody for watching!

  • @JeffrayFiset ohh i get it. Well, let me tell you that you are an amazing drumme. I play drums for like 7 years, and you play 99% like portnoy!!

  • @portnoy2045 what? kit sound like dogshit!!!....and he's not really that good, sloppy past 2 min mark....can this kid do anything besides flam every other hit?

  • dude you look just like MP! damn you! xD

  • Genious!!

  • nice set up must have cost you a bit of money..

  • presence of enemies section is mental but some bits in ministry of lost souls... holy shit!

  • perfect jump, you rave future

  • More views indeed great f@#king job!

  • fantastic!

  • JUST AWESOME

  • wow, your videos definitely deserve more views

  • WTF!! awesome! man... congratulations

  • dude youre freakin amazing lol nice outfits at the end btw lmao

  • Hey jeff, great job, your ability to play is axiomatic as shown through the piece you chose to play. I am a huge fan of Dream Theater, I have much respect for them as muscians and any drummer who attempts to play the intricacies of Mke Portnoy. I would really like to see you play Red Rain by Peter Gabriel, but put your own thumbprint on it as well. Please consider it.

  • dude you cymble case must weigh a ton...lol

  • damn dude,..youre pretty much on the money!Awesome performance!

  • dude, this second video is in mono, u sould upload a stereo version, good job though, u are amazing!

  • bilader süpersin helal olsun.anlamazsın şimdi ne yazdığımı. you are very good maaannn

  • Awesome song. You know, you should team up with vadrum. Really. That would turn my world upside down.

  • You're very good man!

  • your actually pretty fucking good.... i watch both parts of this medley, and the octavarium one, consecutively while i do my homework... keep rocking dude!!!!

  • Fuck Yeah!!!

  • nice kit

  • Nice one at the end.. haha.. Wow, amazing 20 minutes of pure progressive drumming... Great job dude!! \m/

  • Bravo!!!! Hail 2 Vadrucci!!!!!!!!!!!:)

  • lol very nice end hahaha

  • Does it make you mad that the second one has 50k less viewers??

Well, i watched both. And you my friend, are the best drummer i have seen on youtube purely for being able to keep this up for 20 minutes straight without messing up and keeping time through so many different varieties of songs..

  • The second one was removed from Youtube for quite sometime.

  • Yeah, I won the dispute but this time they've taken octavadrumedley part 2 down. I'm in the dispute process right now.

  • That sucks! Hopefully you can get it back up!

  • They did that to me too...The song was The Cinema Show (Genesis). So, I recorded it again, but over a midi file.

  • When it's a "cover", you can dispute and you'll win. I did that for 5 videos: both parts of sysdrumedley and octavadrumedley and watcher of the skies. You have to claim for fair use under us copyright law.

  • LMFAO AT THE END!

changing the outfits thats fuckin hilarious....and the canoeing? wtf dude?? haha

    awesome show. great job.

  • fucking amazing

  • perfect!!! GREAT JOB MAN!!!

excelent ... 5 starts for you

  • Nice Instrumedley Chaos....!!!!!

  • Great video! I like your style and everything :)btw, what mics are those?

  • wow, dude, amazing drummer...funny sometimes...

you play the drum with freedom...

    congratulations from Brazil!

  • damn! i thought cobus was good! you played that perfectly!

  • Thanks man, and thanks to everyone that stayed for this 2nd part of the medley, I really worked hard to learn this one and these song are the ones that I like the most on this medley. Anyway thanks for watching this and enjoy Octavadrumedley as well ;-)

  • You are master!

  • Amazing!!!! In brazil we say: "DU CARALHO"!

  • you sir are the BEST drummer on youtube! You are up there with vadrum but you are DA SHIT! keep it up :)

  • wow, you are so good, I think you should be playing in a great band, I do not know ... with Roger Waters or something like this ... Congratulations!

  • dick head (oj haha ) thats the kit i want thats kl tha man keep it up rock on c ya xd

  • Salut mec! Vraiment nice tes videos! J'ai lu sur ta page que tu jamm avec Antoine Dufour? Osti c génial! Ce gars-là est trop fort! J'ai fais des videos de Dream moi too si ça te tente d'y jeter un coup d'oeil! Lâches pas!

by the way, nice job! i really enjoyed ur video throughout the end! im gonna try this song on drums too! peace

  • hey you play really good but your toms are too tiet! but you play really good!

  • are you flaming right at 1:20 ?

  • Yes, i'm flamming from 1:20 to 1:32 (and these are not flat flams)

  • Do said flams lead with the right or left hand? (Sorry, screen was giving me a hard time and I'm just getting into a little more advanced stuff.) Great video by the way!

  • Leading with right hand, thanks for the comment ;-)

  • Thank YOU for the help, your videos have inspired me to work on a lot of things in my drumming!

  • ha ben tabarnak men!!!!!! sa fai du ben de savoir qui a un québécois (dsl si té français lol) qui joue du DT!! thank u men, tu torche en sal!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah !!!

  • your vere good but loosen up a bit your stiff

  • Last part = BEST!!!

    Good job

  • Very good indeed. :) Well done, especially for remembering all that and played it at one time. That's a good drummer.

Wish I could earn money to finish my little drum set and start to record on a real drumset ;)

    Keep rocking!

  • this video is good dude....it great....rock dude!!!!!!

  • The final part is so fucking GREAT haha

    Good job dude!

  • Good stuff man -- thanks for taking the time to share with us! ^_^

  • jajajaja xD the final xD

  • Finally, the video is back again! Thanks for judging that a cover isn't copyright violation.

Sorry everybody that this video wasn't avaible the last month. I was almost considering dropping all comments, and posting a high quality version. Just repost the whole thing losing every comments, rating and view count. Anyway, i'm glad it didn't happened.

  • mike portnoy roxx ;P

    saw him live in frankfurt

    great job nice playin' though

  • yeah... great job man ^_^ nice drum kit :)

  • Wow!!! Fantastik!!! Your the best drummer on the earth man! You could make millions! Too bad you only give massages to people.

  • haha, the best comment ever xD

  • Well, what can I say? I would tell you in French if I could remember everything right off the bat. But that was impressive work, especially for a single take track. And great DavidMeShow-esque ending!

  • Portnoy's lefs side of the monster???

  • what is up with the facial expressions!!!???

    lol

    nywaiiz mad drummin

    kewl kit

    great music

  • Again, brilliant job dude! Keep proggin'!!

  • Man,this was awesome!!!Great work!!!But I must say that I didn't like the ending,last 3-4 secs :\

  • how long have you practice.?. To play the whole medley good?

    Great vid anyway ^^

  • Good question, it's hard to say because it were on some evenings and sometimes afternoon on week-ends. Let say maybe 45-60 hours total, including the recording and mixing(adding titles and credits, because the whole medley was played one take.)

I used sysDRUMatic chaos DVD to learn the songs exactly as they're being played, though sometimes what you see and what you hear is not the same on MP DVDs cause there's a lot of cut'n'paste and editing on DT albums.

    Thanks for watching ;-)

  • Okay thankyou for our reply ^^

well, for pratice, recording and all stuff 45-60 hours is pretty fast? and you play the whole medley in 1 take. That's very good 0.o

I don't know that sysDRUMmatic DVD. But it's work if i see you, playing exactly the songs ^^ [sorry for my horrible english]

But portnoy play'ed so much ghost notes xD that's kinda annoying.

But you did it well. Great vid i watched with pleasure.

  • Great videos and awesome drumming, but i think you forgot Forsaken! :P

  • There is no instrumental part on forsaken, so I choosed not to play it because it didn't fitted in the medley. But yeah,it's a great song.

  • Ah, makes sense, none the less though, good job!

  • haha, nice

  • ProMark are fucking awesome sticks

  • These are 5a vic firth with nylon tips, they feel confortable too but i'll try promark, maybe i'll change my mind.

  • Ah, you use nylon Vics too? I do too, I love them. I use the 2BN's.

  • C'est très bien ce que tu fais, bonne continuation, et si tu t'ennuyes un jour appelle moi pour faire qq covers de DT :-)

  • Sexy drumset and cymbals :D

  • mike portnoy jr...? :P nice drumming man, and i couldn't agree more, Dream Theater really keep musicians alive!! I'm a guitarist myself and like Portnoy, mr Petrucci has no limits either... =)

  • Dude that was amazing..i just sat through 20 min of you.. and it was awesome.. keep up the good work and you looked like scuba steve at the end lol.. see ya..

  • dude u just blew my fuckin mind from 55-2.36

    ALL hail portnoy jr

    !!!XD

    fuckin awesome !!!!!!

are all of ur cymbals sabian ?

and what type of pedals do u use ?

  • Thanks for the comment. My cymbals are not all sabians, but my favorite are sabians. I have zildjian, paiste sabian iznir and wuhan. My double bass drum pedal is a Tama (cheaper than iron cobran, single chain drive) and I have 1 remote yamaha hat and an old pearl straight hat pedal.

  • Nice kit man!!!

    And great job!!!

    5 stars!!! and favourite!!!!

    keep on rocking like that!!!

  • Just Perfect! Very Good! Congratulation!! From Caracas Venezuela, You Rock!

  • gracias...por tocar asi!!congratulations..is very inspirated!!

  • WTF man the last fill from in the presence of enemies was flawless.. truly amazing.. keep it up

  • sexy :D amazing man :D

did you put the medley togethor aswell? as in take the sections of songs and mix it all togethor? if so its even more impressive :P

love the t-shirt 2 btw :D it is a beatles one yes? i can make out let it be on the back :P

  • Yes I took the instrumental sections of the entire album and put it all together, it is also a beatles t-shirt and I am starting a new band that will do old prog rock covers for now and we will probably compose later.

    Thanks for watching.

  • ......there goes my pride...smashed without any mercy.

    AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME

  • Hey, ya know Mike is getting up there in years! Maybe he would let you sit in at one of the DT shows! Wouldn't that be awesome?

Knowing how Mike is, he probably would!

  • Just finished watching the whole thing for the third time in two days, and I have yet to find any mistake worth mentioning. Simply amazing, man. Not another drummer on YouTube has come this close to the original and is as humble (and entertaining!) as you are. Five stars for you, bro, and I'm subscribing. Keep up the EXCELLENT work.

  • yeah you have reallt gd timing gd job :)... would you mind telling me what kind of equipment you use to record?? 10x

  • nice playing and nice drum can you give me specification for your drums

  • Well done dude. Your'e soo god

  • hey. u know .. here is when i say " mike portnoy is the best for doing this", he's not the only one nice drummer cuz there are really good drummers like u who plays the same he does and more! .. just amazing! =)

  • Thanks but this is master MP that made all these crazy beats and fills. I would say that he don't DO this, (as many drummers can) but he CREATE this. I think this is the real difference between kids and mans...

  • that's what a wanted to say =)

  • good work:)

  • Nice kit. Awesome cymbals. Really good playing! If there is some things I should point out, it would be the sound, all I hear is cymbals. And you play it excactly like Portnoy, which is good. But I like when you kinda play it your way. But you are a really good drummer. Keep up the good work!

  • hahaha.. like the "behind the back" style...

  • Read my profile if you want to know why I don't change any part. By the way, if you want to tell me you don't like it, please write in french or english. Thanks for your comment anyway and have a good day ;-)

  • My friend, for which we have not formally studied, copying the great masters to teach us a lot, thus acquire the tools to levar out our creations. I learned to play the instrument by copying to Portnoy, now attempt the same with Virgil Donati, Vinnie Colaiuta, Thomas Lang, Jojo Mayer among others. I think that what Jeff did not go wrong, surely learned a lot by copying this piece!

  • very impressive

  • excellent.. i loved the last part with the cloth changin xD funny...

    keep on.. u are awsome.

    DT rules!

  • You are incredible, don't ever throw that gift away.

  • THE BEST!!!

  • i dont like it no es muy bueno toca otra cosa pero tocas muy bien

  • id loooove to see a drum tour vid of your set. thats a niiiice kit.

  • Hi man!! Completely crazy this video!!

The medley is very good and the parts of the songs that you choose conect each other perfectly!!

    Congratulations!! Very nice job!!

  • Totally awesome, keep rocking up man!

PD: I'd like (and i'm sure i'm not the only one) to see you doing medleys of the other DT albums, it'd be a pleasure!

    Great job!

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm working on Octavarium right now and in the meantime i'm finishing to edit a video called "How to make a stack". I'll show how to make a good sounding stack out of a Wuhan Chinese that cost around 36$. It's an idea that came out from my sysdrumedley chaos experience because i needed 3 stacks to make this video but I didn't wanted to pay 350$ each (for max stax).

So you'll probably be pleased to know that I have the intention to make other medleys from DT albums. ;-)

  • Dude that was impressive if you ever wanna jam sometime just let me know

  • oh god! nice very nice job!!! amazing!!!!!! me impresiono !

  • Amazing job man on both vids, i thoroughly enjoyed them. I'm a huge dream theater fan and Mike portnoy is my favourite drummer. You played his drum parts very nicely, thanks :) and please do more

  • Oh my god..... it's excellent... i don't like Dream Theater but when I see the drum parts I'm so impressed...

    Congratulations from France !

  • that was insanely good... could you cover 6:00? thats my all-time favorite drumming song from DT

  • you're crazy man8 (8:53)..definatelly...GREAT JOB IN BOTH PARTS

  • anyone know where i can get a 10" china for fairly cheap?

  • you won´t be as good as portnoi but you are very close to the big stars and maybe you win a profecional drumer

    keep on rocking :):):)

  • 5/5 for part 1

    5/5 for part 2

    so..

    10/5 for all of them!

    two thumbs up!

    argh! no!

    err..

  • holy shait! that was awsome!! loved your other video to!!! great work!

  • great job man...i liked both videos..great job...keep going..i want to see more...

  • Haha funny how you put vadrum as a tag...thats how I found this.

Anyways, as a huge DT fan that was very nice. How many tries did it take you to get all that in one take?

  • Thanks for the comment, the day of recording I played it 6 times, but because I was too nervous, I held the sticks too tight and I hurted my left hand be cause it was taking all the vibrations from the strokes. I was unable to play for 3 days. On the second day of shooting, I played the song 5 times before i got the take you can see here. It was very frustrating when I made mistakes at 16:00 min, I had to do it all again. So, to answer your question, I had to play it approx. 11 times.
