  • This is ridiculous. Switch to Android or iPhone, it just take 1 touch to do tethering, no BS like this.

  • Hi, i am using virgin network and i want to use this method to connect to my laptop but i cant find virgin network on the drop down list , where you choose your carrier. can anyone please explain if i can connect it using virgin network. thankss

  • QUESTION>>> do you have to pay for blackberry internet & the cell-line, or can you use blackberry as a modem from your phoneline by itself???

  • what if it doesnt automatically fill the blanks when you choose your service provider? im with sasktel and it doesnt fill.

  • @16webb16 You can set it up manually by getting the settings from your network provider. Point to be noted here is that you must check if your network supports the modem functionality.

  • @wadhiamod I've connected about 10 times, and now when i try and connect, the whole laptop freezes and I have to restart it. Do you have any suggestions?

  • @16webb16 im with sasktel did you find it out

  • @hockeyman361 yess i found it out, but yours is likely to not be the same

  • Ok.. So question.. this isn't easy if you don't have a disk drive or internet to start with. so how can i connect my blackberry to my netbook with out software

  • @michaeltandy You can download the desktop manager ona USB Drive from an internet cafe, work, friends etc or you can use the windows modem setup utility to setup a tethered modem. In the past the windows utility has not worked to such a great effect as you still need the BB device drivers for windows to recignize it as a modem device. So in a nutshell, download the desktop manager ona USB drv and install it on your netbook...coool

  • sounds like airplane attendant

  • how do i speed it up

  • Tether from the crackberry store works great.....and its free forever

  • @Chris385261 how do you say "free forever" ? in app world the tether app is a one time fee of 30 bucks and the tether program on my pc is only a 7 day trial .....

  • @radix119 well i just got it for 25$ lol. u dont need a tether program...Tether..all u need

  • is this free?

  • @GregRosss as long as your data plan supports the feature. Check with your network provider

  • @wadhiamod

i am running the virgin mobile using the unlimited plan including the beyond talk plan

does is charge a fee or no??

  • @onijordan There no way of telling whether it will be free. The best thing will be to use it for a little while, say like 5 minutes. Then call the network provider and ask them if the usage has shown up as free or has been billed. Sometimes the usage info will reflect on the system after 48 hours, so be paitent.

  • Fantastic info bro not tried it yet but will i am on t-mobile and my girlfriends daughter is on orange both our phones are the bb curve8520 will post results of how i get on ok thanks

  • @Bridoist How did it go. Any issues let me know.

  • @wadhiamod Sorry bro i didn't bother to set it up i did however find out that it costs £12,50 per month on t-mobile to do this but thanks for your help its appreciated!!!!!!

  • i got an error saying "please check your profile settings and make sure your radio is turned on. this service might also have been turned off by your wireless service provider or your administrator." please help!

  • @Akps7 Hi, as it says it may be blocked by your provider or if you are on a company server, your BES admin has blocked it. In the former you will need to speak to the network provider & in the latter it will be your BES admin. Let me know what happens and I will advise accordingly.

  • HABLAS DEMASIADA PAJA Y NO EXPLICAS CON EL VIDEO CABRON

  • Dude you talk low as shit.

  • can the pearl 8100 able to do this?

  • @nikkisha1234 Yes it can but as an 8100 is not a 3G enabled smartphone the speeds will be very slow.

  • Yes thanks. That issue has been addressed.

  • @wadhiamod am not seeing a connection profile for the service in my country in the list

  • Is this slower than using a real modem? Or is there not much of a difference? Depending on signal i guess.

  • @CelticsFanBoy92 Yes signal strength does matter. Poor signal and you will have issues. It is like a 56k modem. Its good for basic net surfing and checking emails. Not advisable for video/audio streaming. Its slower than your broadband but it works and can be used as a secondary connection if your regular internet connection has gone down.

  • Help!! Yes it does provide teathering. I have unlimited data plan with bust mobail but I can't find apn its not in the advanced option setting so idk if it provides apn setting but that's what I can't find.

  • Help!!!!! Need help with configuring. One I finish that I click connect and every time I do this it says check profile setting to make sure radio is turned on????? HELP

  • A few things to note

    Is your BB fully charged

Do you have a data plan on the BB

Are the APN settings defined on your BB

Does your mobile provider support modem tethering...

Let me know and we will figure out whats happening

  • Yes. you should not be charged any extra. To be on a safer side use it for a day or two, the call your network & check if they are billing you or not.

  • @wadhiamod r u frm australia? i noticed three aus....

  • @fanofsongs No I am not, but thanks for thecomment :)

  • hey guy i have a bb storm flashed to metro pcs..how would i make my black berry a ip modem..the phone works fine i a have internet i even have the blackberry deskstop software and could update my i just dont know or have any clue to configure it...

  • I am using Vista premium and have had the most difficult time gettting the IP modem to install. I have gone to the blackberry website for the download. I just can't understand why the iP modem icon will not install. Anybody got any suggestions.. I have a 8530 curve

  • what country you are in and what is your network. If you have a 8530 then I think your BB is a special build and your provider may not support the IP Modem function. Have you checked with your provider?

  • Hi

As indicated above you need to have tethering support available for the IP Modem function to work. This service is network dependant. So check with your network. = the latest version 5.0 of DM should have the IP Modem support. No limk sorry but can try downloading from BB Europe site

  • how do u get the "ip modum" icon on your blackberry desktop.?

  • @kekearah1

hi kekearah1, the latest version of the desktop manager should include an icon for IP modem on the opening screen. If your version of the desktop manager doesn't include it, go to the BlackBerry website and download the latest version of the desktop manager. Be aware that if your cell phone service provider doesn't offer the facility to use your BB as a modem, they may ask RIM to remove it.
