  • Being a anglo/celtic aussie i love this music, the old time music hasn't been bettered, for me it's the most soulful then & now.

  • Buddy Macmaster is the one who inspired me to start playing fiddle i just started this year i already play guitar and now fiddle i love fiddle music so much you dont even need the lyrics the storey is already there you just need to picture it in your head

  • My grandfather passed away just this Christmas Day and I'm sitting here, having one of his favourite beers and listening to Buddy because he was always one of his favourite fiddle artists. Grampy could tell you who was playing and the name of the song.

I'm sure if he could've seen this video, he would have loved it.

I'll always think of him when I hear this song.

    Love you forever, Grampy <3

  • Of course, this is the old meaning hard to recapture in the speed of our shared lives today, but yet . . . well, whatever.

  • love this stuff!! what control and timing he has, makes it look so easy.

  • As a resident of Cape Breton for many years, Buddy has always inspired me from the first i heard him play at our school square dance, Judique Creignish High School. He will always inspire me as i am sure he will to all who listen to his great music. buddy your Number 1

  • As a Cape Bretoner I am so thankful for Buddy MacMaster,a cornerstone of our culture!!

  • This dude is awesome.

  • My friend & I play this one. I play the piano accompaniment. Although it's a different arrangement, so I have long solo, then she comes in and we play together.

  • Beautiful, I'm a Caper born and raised. It was always such a privledge to step while Buddy played the fiddle:)

  • Awesome gave me goosebumps

  • Excellent! Allison Kraus sings "Get Me Through December" on her holiday CD, which is to the tune of Neil Gow's Lament. Buddy's niece, Natalie does fiddle parts in the song. Thanks for sharing the clips od the concert.

  • He's a master. Very nice music.

  • My mom and dad used to go see Buddy when he came to the Canadian American Club in Watertown, MA years ago, so a large part of me was introduced to him long time before I ever heard him!

I think in high school, I wouldn't have appreciated him! It's just nice now to apppreciate him!

Saw Natalie about a year ago--she's taking after Uncle Buddy!

  • Tune 5 is "Lady Muir MacKenzie" (trad.)

Tune 7 is "Sir David Davidson of Cantray" by John Lowe

  • @piobmhor2 Thanks all the great information!

  • the great buddy macmaster... the iconoclast of celtic fiddle and father of modern Cape Breton & maritme music

  • Iconoclast? I dont think so...

  • the first tune he plays is 'Neil Gow's lament for the death of his second wife' - yeah.. haha. or a remake with Natalie Macmaster and Alison Krauss - Get me through December. I can't name the others off hand, though it's fantastic.

  • The Tune was called Neil Gows lament for his second wife was because someone sat on his fiddle and broke it, They called his fiddle his second wife because he spent more time with the fiddle than his real wife ... His Fiddle is in the ballroom in Blair Athole / Blair Castle ....below a copy of naysmiths painting of Gow. I have the honour of playing there many times with my band with the fiddle 2 feet away from me ...So please tell me you are joking.....

  • What a Great fiddler he Is ,I'm also wondering the nnammes of these tues he's playing

  • He is amazing.

  • Can anyone please tell the name(s) of the tunes Buddy is playing on this concert clip #2?

    Perserve this one well Sam.

  • Truly a great Scottish fiddle player.

  • If God ever wants to learn the fiddle, he'll probably ask Buddy.

  • Anybody that likes this set Buddy is playing should get his CD . Every set on the CD is great but I particularly like 7 it begins with a great air Silverwells and ends with Carnie's Canter. Great CD !

  • i wish that he'll be immortalized.

  • Wow! Just beaut iful. I just heard him at Celtic Colours. What a treat. He is still the boss. I love the airs!

  • @engineer043

i think you should take it a lil bit easier coz i was just a high school student in sydney. and i think that you shouldn't give any comment from you coz without germans...or let them be irish, british, french etc. you wouldnt live in such a wonderful country like canada and especially not on such a beautiful island like cape breton.

    anyway, buddy, take it easy

  • he is an excellent player and a great friend.

  • nice one very moving...

  • Does anywhone know the name of this great tune?

    Fiddler from Sweden

  • Neil Gow's Lament to the death of his 2nd wife

  • The first tune is called Neil Gow's Lament

Written after the death of the composers second wife

  • "JUDIQUE" your not just on the floor, you own the floor.

  • hes better than celtic women, that thing they did with the violens

  • if you can't spell violin..you shouldn't be watching this..they're referred to as "fiddles" in this type of music anyways, obviously.

  • ...and i've seen him live in sydney, nova scotia!!! actually i'm from germany and that is not 'our' music, his fiddle touched me!

  • buddy is de best ..

  • hi

thanks for positng this. Love Neil Gows lament for his second wife! Is it true its not about his second wife as he only had one but because he broke his old fiddle (his second wife)?

    Chris
