  • Just watch him for the first time on Youtube, when he performed at the White House...I love his music and he is awesommmmeeeeee....Thanks for the clip

  • .... bad ass guy. badass song..... enuff said.

  • Heard the live version of this from a New Years Eve Recording that I got off Rhapsody--sat here tonight with tears in my eyes listening to this gem. Warren is such an underappreciated genius. It's a shame he doesn't get the respect and recognition someone of his talent deserves. Recently discovered Govt Mule and have become their biggest prommoter.

  • respect....

  • jesus christ, this is just mesmerizing

  • We love ya Warren.....

  • where can i download this song, please anyone?

  • Esse gordinho é fodaaa.. melhor do mundo.

  • great feel!

  • warren, dio, zepp, & ozzy kinda listenin.....& the fabulous gaslight anthem *american slang's the shizzzz

  • I can't get enough of this, of got it on "Another One for Woody>"

  • Says Gov't Mule next to Artist... (right under the Likes/Dislikes tally)

  • hey everybody i just found out, this amazing, incredible performance is from the "under the influence" tribute cd to lynyrd.

  • This is amazing, Is this Gov't Mule or Warren on his own? anyone know?

  • Love this song. It was my son's Mother and Son dance at his wedding in 2008

  • He is such an amazing artist.. every time i hear his voice or hear him play just draws me in. unfortunately i was late hearing his music.. didnt know who he was until Beautiful broken came out and missed years of listening to him play and sing.

  • Warren sang this to me at Alpine Valley 2002 :-)

  • BEST DANM VERSION I HAVE EVER HEARD AND I AM 55

  • Very underrated guy, to me.

  • MAY GOD TRULY BLESS ALL THE SOUTHERN ROCK LEGENDS WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US, BUT SHOULD BE!! RIP SIMPLE MEN!!

  • ??? Shine who?? .. Great job !!!...

  • Wow...never heard this man before, let me just say I am impressed!

  • One fantastic singer and guitarist! 10/10.

  • Wow! Total creds with this song!

  • Hi, what a version of this song. He sings like the best and his guitar playing is excellent as allways, It is one of the best versions of this song.

    Excellent, excellent.

  • alot better than shine downs cover

  • i never heard him sing or even play, before; i had heard he was a good picker, so when i came across this i thought, okay, this guy's probably gonna play well but his vocals are gonna be awful; especially since ronnie had such a charasmatic voice. but this cat really has the pipes. so many blues guitarists who try to sing the lead vocals really suck. they can't pull it off, but the picking kind of makes up for it, i. e. roy buchanan and the like. but this guy could be JUST a lead singer.

  • @1skullduggery Yeah, indeed. There's singers and there's players, but finding the best of both worlds in one package isn't very common. This guy's got the chops with equal pipes to boot. A true talent, that's truly appreciated by all whom can figure that out. Just a lot of people out there whom consume music without knowing what it takes. Not just about bobbing the head up and down and enjoying it, not at least in my book.

  • @gblueslover2 "This guy's got the chops with equal pipes to boot."

Would you be so kind and explained to me what does that phrase mean? I'm preparing to my english test, and thought to myself that some rare phrases would come in handy.

  • Comment removed

  • @Dez1an OK... I removed my initial comment after I saw where you're from. Thought you were being sarcastic. OK, here you go... Chops= Related to instrument playing ability. In short, one's experience level combined with their creativity. Pipes= Their throat, their singing ability.

    To boot= "Also"

  • @gblueslover2 Uh-huh....see, I've received what you've written in the 1st comment by e-mail.

Next time gonna think quadriple before I ask.

    Thanks anyway....

  • @Dez1an Sorry man. I do apologize ...

But on your end, I would inform people where you are from first. (Sarcasm is BIG on YouTube, one never knows for sure.)

Hope the explanations of the words I used assisted you...;>) peace

  • @gblueslover2 Yap, it did - I would never come up with the idea. For me, chops are fried slices of meat, breaded and spiced. Understandably it sounded weird to me;)

  • this guy can play it all.he is one of the best.

  • holy crap...I had chills and goose bumps by :20 in and they stayed...thanks for the sounds!!!

  • I have his autograph.

  • @drewkuch i want one no fair i seen him and got his pick

  • @1GACFAN nice! where at? my Les Paul pick guard has the autograph.

  • how could even one person dislike this?

  • Ronnie must proud of you,Haynes...

  • Long live Ronnie, Allen, Leon, Steve and Billy!

  • Nobody beats skynyrd but this is one hell of a version of Simple Man.

  • As a huge Skynyrd fan I have to say Warren does this to perfection

  • this is like my favorite song ever holy shit of course the lynyard skyniard version is like the original one but this ones pretty great too

  • Does anyone actually know where this is from?

  • @Dough3977 lynyard skyniard my friend...

  • @Dough3977 I am not sure where this version is at, but they did simple man with Travis Tritt at Christmas Jam. Travis is hammered and forgets the word.

  • Just saw Warren's new band the other night. Nice outdoor show by the river. He didn't dissapoint as usual. He reminds me of Garcia in that the music just seems to ooze out of him. He is of it and it of him. Highlights were a nice "Change Is Gonna Come" the old Sam Cooke tune. "Invisible" smoked and they really stretched it out longer than I'd heard it before. "Fire In The Kitchen" was also stellar. He's withoput a doubt one of the most vital, outstanding guitarst/singers of today. Go see him!!

  • @09jackstraw my husband and i just saw warren with the new band in cleveland at house of blues...also did change is gonna come....just amazing!! and i agree....go see him any chance you get!!

  • Warren is the *&^(%$u Man!!!

  • God Bless Warren Haynes!!! Keeping real music alive. You can tell that he loves playing and has a passion for it. Ill bet he will be just as happy playing in a garage with friends than in a stadium.

  • i may piss off some Lynyrd Skynyrd fans with this but RVZ can't hold a candle to Warren. Only my opinion. Best guitarist/vocalist on we have.

  • Maybe I am biased, but I like this version better with Warren singing over RVZ. Now, I respect and love RVZ, but I just love Warren and he does this song COMPLETE justice.. this is no half hearted attempt at a cover, he put his soul into it. He always does. One of the hardest working men in rock and roll.

  • i am so glad theres no dislikes on this video

  • Awesome

  • I would absolutely love to hear Warren on stage sometime pick this song along with Gary Rossington. That would be awesome!!

  • SWEET!!

  • I hate realizing 15 seconds into a song that you're going to end up crying like a little girl.

  • Great Version of Simple Man

  • Gov. Mule, the Dead, the Allman bro's. guess Warren can cut the mustard, Rock on!!!!

  • Great version he is the man

  • dont forget what david gilmore could do with a guitar

  • dont forget what david gilmore could do with a guitar

  • This man is no simple man, he's a fucking genius is what he is!

  • @TranceTechnoSucks suck up HAHAHA jk i agree

    <3

  • wahouuuuuuu !

  • Comment removed

  • I've always felt you can judge a musician/group by the number of other people that want to perform with them. I don't think there are many more performers out there that play with more people than Warren. This song is forcing me to grab a beer and hit the drums. Mrs. Haynes. Can Warren come out and pplay?

  • @michaelpc420 oh hell, I read this and had to go grab a longneck.

    THANKS!!!!!!

  • wow, such a long time ago hard to remember.they played two sets and we managed to sorta hide-out and see the second show for free.by that time we were totally trashed.i"d never heard of warren until i saw that show.been a fan ever since

  • ....he's a simple man... a big man.....with big heart

  • Warren is. truly and totally.

  • saw warren playing with david allen coe in a small club in ft lauderdale in maybe 1980-81 one amazing night

  • @MGordo54 hey heard he played with ol' d.a.c . wonder what all songs he was in on ?

  • From 6:23 to 6:33: AMAZING §§§

I think i love this guy.

  • I really like the guitar strap. Oh and the LP too. Warren goes without saying.

  • I really like the guitar strap.

  • I've rarely ever heard this song covered that I thought the band playing the song was doing Skynyrd any justice at all. But Warren Haynes's version of Simple Man is totally fantastic!! Very well done, by a man that's got a great voice, and is a great picker!!

  • @GBeret83 strangely enough Deftones totally owned the Simple Man,so check it out ;-):

  • Warren Haynes is one talented motherfucker!! Love this guy's picking and vocals!!

  • R.I.P Ronnie

  • oh yes!!! I really like this number...Warren just made it perfect

  • I think I may have jammed with this guy. He's a really gifted guitarist. The guy that I met that looks like and plays like this guy has been playing since he was 5.

  • Yes, absolutely the most underrated vocalists to ever have lived.

  • Such a beautiful and happy man.

  • I saw LSkyn ever time they came to Houston in the 70's. There's just something.... the Allmans, Marsh Tucker... you can't understand if you grew up in Calif or the north... the torch passes. Now I listen to Warren and Derek. Great, great talents. Thanx, Glen

  • @2253glen i saw them once in houston as well i was young but none the less we went lol cant ask anymore from em this texascity boy loves that soulful playing!!!

  • +++++

  • thats a damn beautiful les paul hes playing their in that pic

  • @mrcoolpimpice boy I couldn't agree more, I'm a Les Paul nut and this is one of the best I've ever seen. I'm not a fan of Warren but I love this song.

  • Warren has worked very hard on himself

One the greats of all time

  • @ize1277 a new discovery for me. Love the voice.

  • There isn't anything that this man can't do. Everything he does isjust amazing. He touches my sould everytime.

  • this sounds like always somewhere with scorpions.

  • @efhsa8731 - No my friend, Scorpion's song sounds like Simple Man, not the other way around. I know you didn't mean it like that, but it is a huge disrespect to one of the best rock bands to ever walk this earth to say that one of their masterpieces sounds like a Scorpion song. Long live Skynyrd nation!

  • HOLY CRAP SHIVERS RUNNIN DOWN MY SPINE!!! GO WARREN YOU RULE MAN

  • Skynyrd was the best rock band ever walked this earth, and this is a DARN good S man cover, best I've ever heard, of course what ya expect , its Warren.

The Dead are my second favorite band or tied with first...I hope Warren and Bob Weir do more together.

  • @rotagen5 Amen brother. The Dead, Skynyrd, and The Allman Brothers is all I need. I love alot of different music, but I couldn't live without those three bands.

  • Ronnie Van Zant would be proud of this Tribute!!! Warren is A Free Bird!!!Fly On!!!

  • Just goes to show you...that there's nothing the Mule can't pull !!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the share...such a heartfelt rendition...the Mule kicks hard!

  • Warren is great, so's Van Zant, and Gary, there should be no argument there. Neither is better than the other, they each have a different take on the song.

  • Good guy to have around a campfire

  • Allen Collins would really like Warren's version. RIP Allen

  • toca e interpreta muy de poca este cabron. Mis respetos....

  • Finally my band is getting some recognition! Have loved them for so long! I like this version, but I like Government Mule's version where they sing live at the Roxy in Atlanta better! I also am a huge Skynyrd fan, but I must say when it comes to this song Mule has em' beat! And please can we not use the band Shinedown in comparison to these guys. They have no where near the talent...thank you!

  • Now that tht is cleared up. Warren holds every song by everyone he covers close and makes it his own. He may and most likely is a better overall guitarist than most any guitarist you can list, but to say he did Simple Man better then Skynyrd is blasfamous. It is only his take on the song, delivered with all the soul he has. If you have never heared this man play, don't post your comparisons. You know nothing of. what your talking about.

  • Just for the record rocket scientists, it's Lynyrd Skynyrd.

  • This is Truly great music here.. Only the Original Simple Man can top this

  • Warren sings better than Van Zandt....

And is a better guitarist than all of them in Lynard Skynard

  • @StSimonOfTrent Get a grip are you a total dumb fuck there is no way Haynes is a better singer than Ronnie Van Zant and as for playing guitar i would argue that he is a totally different style of guitar player to Rossington, Collins and Gaines !! In my personal opinion i think Allen Collins and Steve Gaines are better guitarist to Warren Haynes - But each to thier own opinion !!

  • were and how did you get this?

  • Guys check me out im 15

  • A fine cover of an excellent song.

  • mule is god

  • Never heard this version before. Entirely in the spirit of the original - beautifully played and sung by Mr Haynes here.

Every time I hear this song it reminds me of Ronnie Van Zant - the spirit of the man himself is here, in the song and the dead are raised and walk once again with us for as long as the song plays.

  • almost better than skynard

  • There's a livewire jammin' & dancin' in the skies. I miss you darlin'. I wear the Gov't Mule jacket ya gave me still. Seen Warren couple weeks ago, thought of you. RIP Mark!!....Ride on till ya git there....

  • That is how this song is supposed to be played. Not the wimpy version that Shinedown does.

  • @captdcc62 shinedown is a descent cover band but that's bout it...they do somewhat justice tho...gimme some whiskey and i'm down on a boring sat night...

  • ya this is sick

  • Warren treats this and all the covers he does as his own material...the man is one of the most respected artists by his peers in music today..

  • true talent!

  • If people listened to music like they used to, this dude would be a household name.

  • damn you right good find good cover for once

  • that find made my day

  • Warren is the best guitarist and one of the best vocalists alive at this moment in my opinion. he plays and sings with a passion and feel that you just dont hear very often. brilliant!

  • @hollowpointred, totally agree with you about Warren Haynes!! Such a talented picker, and his vocals are just awesome. A huge talent, IMO.

  • @hollowpointred Thanks for the comments... my feelings exactly <3

    Peace

  • @hollowpointred I agree !!!!

  • @hollowpointred right on!!

  • @hollowpointred , yes, he is one of the most COMPLETE (guitar and vocal) guitarist BUT (ha ha) let me remind you that Robin Trower is on stage all the time:) In my opinion he is the best guitarist but he doesn't sing. The other good guitarist are: Julian Sas and Walter Trout. I love "Cortez the killer" played by Warren - what a dynamite and feel!

  • @Jarkinson Robin does sing...on his more recent releases "Go My Way," and "What Lies Beneath."

  • @hollowpointred I third that! Warren has that feeling you don't get in rock anymore.

  • @hollowpointred

I just can't say more, I fully agree with you.

    Cheers Buddy

  • @hollowpointred He is an amazing vocalist, no doubt about that.

But to say he is one of the best vocalists alive at this moment would be an outright lie.

  • @obubison2014 it's all about soul, it's all about heart-touching, dude. Warren Haynes defenitely owns it. No doubt...

  • @ducinator1 To say that he is one of the best vocalists alive at this moment would be an outright lie.

And it is about soul and heart-touching, but that doesn't make him a good vocalist, it make him a good communicator through music. And the difference is that the best vocalists alive today may not communicate as well as he does, but they are still better vocalists than him.

  • @obubison2014 yea i've listened to any kind of music and every singer just makes me feel good a time or two then i discovered Warren Haynes, i'm hooked you know... That's the singing quality, that's the power of his voice.

Please look inside things, don't just see the outward. (he can hit high notes or do the wide range incredibly).

    PeacexD

  • @obubison2014 you're arguing semantics. "Best" is a relative term when it comes to art. I'd still agree that there are better pure vocalists out there though. Hard to argue against Bobby McFerrin

  • @obubison2014 And to say anyone gives a fuck what you think would also be an outright lie as well.

  • @hollowpointred and he's a drummer he learned guitar cause he had too..his bro would knock him out MEAN HUH? all the truth look it up

  • Tight! Who is the 2nd guitarist?

  • Awesome. I don't need to comment on Warren's skills, we all know he is one of the greatest musicians of all time..

But also Matt Abts's atomic-clock precision timing and powerful attack (or whatever you call it for drums, I hope you get the point) suit this song very very well.

  • One of the most underrated influences on American music. Dead, Mule, Allman, solo and collaborations. Wow.

  • WARREN HAS BECOME AN AMERICAN CLASSIC! JUST LIKE THIS SONG!

I was'nt screaming, only talking loud.

  • man! this is good, realy good, but how could anyone say warren makes the original's writer/ guitar player sound lame??? some one needs to think before slavering such a comment....i do think warren is up there with the best of'em today and for some time yet, but the guys who wrote this track had massive success the world over & over & over again to this day and for ever....

    i do love gov't mule though....great cover.

  • aS BAD AS IT KILLS ME YOU ARE RIGHT! I AM A HUGE MULE FAN! BUT TO SAY LS IS CHUMP CHANGE IS JUST SILLY

  • Man, Gary Rossington appears a bit lame when you hear Warren playing this...

  • Wait a minute, is Audley Freed his 2nd guitarest? That sure did sound like his playing/tone.

  • i agree lions is an awesome cd

  • Woooooow! Got no other words for this!

Thank you so much for posting.

BTW there's a nice clip here at YouTube of Warren with the Allman Bros. playin Simple Man as well. There's Gary Rossington with them!

    Thanks again,

    peace and love

  • the quality is good because this is an offical release off a tribute disc

  • What CD would that be? Love to have it. =]
