I know i wasn't expecting the faster pace the song is usually played at, but this was a stellar effort! Seeing this makes me regret 1000 times not gathering my meager savings and flying from Brisbane :(
Lets hope it doesn't take another catastrophic disaster to bring the Oils back. They need to do another Australian tour!
as soon as I heard of the 2 warm up concerts I booked the flights from Adelaide the tickets the accomodation, stuff the expense, there are just some things in life you just cannot miss.
I was here... ^_^ Lol. I drove 3 hours to this concert. All the way from Sydney. we got home at 1:30 - 2am. lol. Well worth the money, and well worth the drive. Awesome show.
wicked show. seen the oils so many times and could say it was the best gig ive seen.... Spoke to jim moginie in the hotel lift after the show...had gret convo, my mate got a hug too. Great bloke
this gig was awesome. such a nice surprise to see someone has filmed some of it. they did 2 encores and even played US forces, which they didn't play the previous night. read about it was amazing.
Sounds like Canberra people were very much luckier than others. The earlier songs - from the first five albums - are much better than later ones, in my opinion: lots of time changes, tough yet melodic riffs, without rhythm fill between the vocal lines, unpredictable.. Listen to this applause and that savage guitar playing... You don't get that in the later songs that they did in Melbourne.
So right dude, so right. When Bones joined all the old stuff was gone, he just doesn't play like Peter Clifford (?). I LOVE that old stuff. Oh well, got my Oils On The Water DVD I spose.
They were really great in Melb - Redneck & Read About It, totally killer.
Thanks Shearn. I agree that Bones is not Peter Gifford - a more melodic bassist whereas Bones is more plain solid. But the songwriting credits started to change and my guess is that we'll not know why until some sort of biography comes out. Later songs sound to me like they were written by someone who played rhythm guitar, whereas the old ones sound like they were written by lead guitarists, if you know wha' ah mean. Reading some other the other new comments here, Melb missed out...
Got really lucky last weekend on Max, the music channel on foxtel. They played the Goat Island concert, which is, I think, on your DVD? Best thing was finding that my 13 yo daughter knew lots of the words! Next best thing was that she got to hear "Stand in line" one of the all-time favourites of mine. As that guy used to say in that tv ad " new oils ain't oils", at least I could not imagine the new oils playing like that.
Patience all. The second uploading has been going for about 20 hours. I may have to cancel, and redo the clips in a slightly lower quality. There will eventually be Don't Wanna Be the one, Armistice Day, Progress, Best of Both Worlds. Sorry that's all - I was limited by the size of memory card. And the set list of course.
Keep going, mate, you're doing the Oils justice by letting everyone who wasn't in Canberra hear what they couldn't hear in the big but short TV version, and doing the rest of us a h-u-u-u-ge favour. We've already been waiting years to hear these songs live again... We can wait some more... No rush. Thanks, thanks, thanks.
Jon, mate I will buy you a beer just for shooting this..........This band and its music is truly Australian. Long live the Oils and hand it down to your kids
Oiiiiiiillllllsssssss cheers mate!

hope they make a motion in parliament today that midnight oil re-form. peter g might be more effective as lead singer than environment minister.

Very good quality....I was thinking no one had bought their cameras to Canberra!
Got any more you can put up?
newtownmack 2 years ago
Yes, a few. But they will take a while to upload. I don't wanna drop the quality.
I'm annoyed to miss the start of Lucky Country. Bar service was too slow.
