quite agree, i seen this movie with my dad,in a movie house in scotland,,also got to see the great escape, a terriffic mattinneeeeeeee, i do believe i may have been six or seven, but love'd my dad, missumuch
Does anyone know if there was a "633 squadron" of any kind, and with any planes, in UK during the war? I've tried to find that out, but never been able.
(I know that this movie's squadron was totally fictious).
I watched this as a boy on TV. For 40 years I thought this was a real war time mission, until Googled! Luckily 617 Squadron & The Dambusters movie was true(ish)! Otherwise I would have never trusted my Dad again!
That might be, but the Bf 108 never was armed with cannons, it was a sports-plane, military usage was really reduced for liason purposes. And the Bf 108 never was in hostile skies over the british islands, so please dont mistake the Bf 108 with the Bf 109. The Bf 108 Taifun was a Piper or Cessna or Robin of its days. The Taifun may be a new kind of fighter now called Typhoon, but that was the british design, not the german. Germany agreed with the name but I dont know why.
What i failed to mention in my first reply was that it was used for the movie in place of 109s. 633 Squadron wasn't the only movie to do this, others included The Longest Day and Von Ryan's Express.
Lets be realistic , they makers of the film probably didnt have a huge budget and certainly no German fighters at their disposal other that the 108s featured - even the Mosquitos used for the live action were ones that were restored...
lets be realistic if a few T6 Texans would be in a movie and pretending of being a Fighter Squadron all the blokes who rated me minus would be upset at the producers. If I cant afford to let a Ha1112 or Avia 199 fly I woulnd produce a WW2 related movie about a flight squadron. I hope the Spitfires and the Hurricanes were real. And a restored Mosquito is as good as a real one. The movie Pearl Harbour, the new one, is showing modern destroyers during the Naval Base attack, this is so enoying
They couldn't get any real BF109's as at the time of filming there were none flying in europe. The closest thing they could get were three BF108's from Spain. After all it was just a movie !
@machman05 I have been in touch with Cliff Robertson, the star of 633 squadron and if anybody is interested he has given some answers to long-standing questions about the film on my blog writers-blog1 on blogspot or search for 'Cliff Robertson Questionnaire' on google.
Here's a fascinating new game for you, Jagdtoq - look closely at the women's hairstyles in just about any film that was made in an era later than the one it's supposedly set in. You'll find in nearly every case that they're wearing a style from their own current period instead of the one supposed to be represented in the movie. I guess it's because of young stylists not knowing how to do the older looks.
Gosh not seen this for a while! dunno about the love interest ... pity it had cliff robertson in it too ... time to look for the dam busters ... another great one!
by the by a Vulcan flew over where I work today ... only one flying at the moment
a great film, excellent movie, but yes, it is a shame that it had to have a love story included in it. surely the real story of the bombing raid was enough?
None flying in the world. One being rebuilt to fly in Canada, another in either New Zealand or Australia, and I think a third somewhere else (not entirely sure).

Sorry but real bad stuff, they could have used some Avias or Buchon Ha1112´s

you mean 109. the 108 didn't have any weapons. it was used as a training plain by the luftwaffe.
but in the video it realy lokks like 108. then the movie is wrong
