Eh I'm not too sure about that... The death note corrupted his mind and gave him a complex... After a certain point, He was evil... Like towards the end. He just kinda loses ALL morality... And without morality, you can't be anything good... Don't get me wrong, I like Light... Well up until he killed L. That kinda set me off. He was cool in the beginning... And I liked the IDEA of Kira, seeing how I hate people who break justice...

Didn't you notice there was written "L."? His first name begins with L. The authors of the real film thingie wanted to build tension and get people watching the film by saying: "Woah! And then you'll see L's real name", but you *just* see his last name. I don't think it wouldn't have worked in the Anime. But in the real film you just need the persons last name and the first letter of the first name, it seems to be.
