I was so glad to find this video, it has been over a year since we went to Malacatepec and talked to the families. Don't know if you remember me, I was with Gustavo.

it just basic principles of capitalist economics, including ron paul's so called "libertarianism". legitimate rights to oppress with capital are recognized in this system. corporations are even legally bound to seek profit, with no responsibility to anyone but the owners. this is not considered corrupt in an economics sense, but is certainly morally criminal.

any benefit mexico gets from these companies being in mexico is outweighed by the massive damage "free trade" and market ideas of "freedom to oppress" are doing to the mexican citizens ability to have a healthy life and participate in the mexican economy.

any measure that does not take into account control of capital flows or how the capital is spent is a useless and misleading measure from the perspective of anyone concerned with the well being of citizens, not corporations.

one problem with many conventional measures, like GDP, is that they consider capital controled exclusively by US and multinational companies in mexico as part of the mexican economy. this makes no sense because the money made is completely controlled by private companies who have no responsibility to mexico or its citizens.

"free trade" destroyed the core of mexican agricultural economy by allowing property(capital) holders in the US the full-freedom to give their goods a "competitive advantage" and thus oppress the livelihood of mexicans and push famalies into starvation for profit gain.

Why a one trillion economy like Mexico has become so depend on these remittances by, mostly illegal, workers in the US? People blame free trade, but the problem goes deeper. The IMF ranks Mexico as the 15th economy of the world, one position above the Netherlands. The World Bank ranks it as the 14th economy, one step above Australia. This is based on GDP, but even in the GDP per capita Mexico ranks above many countries with people living much better off.
