One thing will always confuse me about this part of the series:

...WHERE THE HELL DID THAT BAND COME FROM?!

They weren't there! She was all prepped to sing a capella, and then suddenly this guy with elf ears strikes a chord, and then there's a world-class band that just MATERIALIZED out of nowhere backing her up! WTF?!

i'm constantly amazed by this series... music, animation, etc.. - feels just like a true successor to macross.

1 question though: what's "deculture"? Is it the same as the Robotech "protoculture" stuff?

Protoculture in Macross is the Alien specie that started the evolution of humans on Earth and the original creators of the Zentradi. Deculture is a word in the Zentran language that can be translated as amazing, incredible or unbelievable.

actualy deculture was what the zentradi used to reffer to earth culture and in their language it means something foolish or stupid.

But after the war they began using it in a possitive sence.

I love both versions of "What Bout' My Star" but I can see why people like Ranka's version. It's a lot warmer than the more techno-pop nature of Sheryl's mix.

And so far this series is blowing me away. A HUGE improvement over Macross 7. This is definetly the Macross sequel I've been waiting for for a long time.

I just seen Episode 7, and my head nearly exploded from the awesomeness I witnessed. XD

I wouldn't say huge improvement to Macross 7. Macross 7 is more completely different from the "story drvien storyline", Macross F just focus on stories while Macross 7 seem adding more to each characters and their characteristic as a whole. It really depend on the audiences, some like story driven, some like "randomize" sub-story with little story driven (macross 7 is one).

I'm facsinated with this version I like it a lot more than the Sheryl's version, it's excellent the performance of the seiyuu that makes the voice of Ranka her name is Megumi Nakajima and also is the first role she's making and she is cute...!

I'm with you guys on this. I think Ranka has a much better take on this song. OST is a ways off though, seeing as the series is only on the 5th episode. I'm addicted to the series though.

Yup, Ranka's cover of this song is much better than Cheryl's. We have yet to see a real "idol battle" in Macross. Maybe this series will be the one that gives it to us.
