  • I heard this yesterday evening! The original DUKE ELLINGTON ORCHESTRA! Wohoo, I'd been looking forward to it since I found that they were visiting Czech republic! :) AWESOME!

  • According to Elligton Panorama The Mooche the version on Ellington Uptown was released 1 July 1952

  • An almost identical performance of this was recorded on Duke Ellington Uptown

in 1951 I believe. It also had a killer version of Skin Deep composed by and featuring Louie Bellson

  • awesomeness!

  • actually the orignal was1927 duke ellington and his orchestra with bubber miley

  • I think you're off on the year. It's 1951 or 1952, with Willie Smith on sax and Bellson on drums.

  • Hodges,Bigard,Stewart,Ellington,Krupa,couldnt ask for a better band.

  • @HoldenDoofDoof

    That's Bellson on drumset

  • Amazing and all without electricty

  • Very true

  • "La Mooche" is a no-ager, and The Duke as well. Wish the media set an eye on this vintage, rather than on all those scrawny starlets.

  • Corrie 121.

Loved this music when I was 18- in 1955-. Still love it in 2007.

Consummate musicians every one of them.
