The reason your Glock 29 was shooting a bit higher than you expected was because of the extra recoil.
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but for those who don't, the more recoil from a given handgun, the higher the shots will land because the barrel rocks back higher, causing the bullet to exit at a slightly higher angle.
Haha you hit the head right on the nail Hickok, everyone wants to see videos of their own guns. Also, there will NEVER be too many videos about guns haha.
this question is for anyone with a possible answer... i own a glock 29 and in 50 rounds i had 5 FTE 1 FTF and a "soft strike where the gun did go off at all... doesnt seem right for a glock this is my first glock and probably my last. the gun is stock, and has less than 100 rounds through it so far. thanks for any comments
How would you compare this to the Glock 36 for a CCW usage? Is 10mm Auto a better round for CCW than .45 ACP in your opinion? Thinking of getting a sub-compact Glock and not sure I want 10mm Auto or .45ACP.
@lethalweapon129 Tough question to answer because it depends. 10mm has more stopping power with the same type of round than a .45. Conversely, it also has a good bit more recoil and is harder to become proficient in. Take into consideration the cost of ammo being a good bit more than .45 and it makes sense for most people to stick to .45acp. Others however want the most stopping power possible and will go with 10mm. If you can do your own reloading and produce 10mm cheap, I say go for it.
@lethalweapon129 ALSO Think about the fact that the 10mm is a SUPER-HOT round (Almost Magnum Autoloader) & it has a higher chance of over-penetrating, Even with good HP ammo. That being said You can't go wrong with either one.
I've never seen anyone who can control recoil the way you can. I shot a Glock 29 once and got my ass kicked. You handle it like it's an airsoft pistol.
@onetaothree The 29 seems to like large hands, my hands would be considered XL and because of that the gun fits like a glove. It's shoots just like you see in the video with the hot stuff. I had a guy shoot it which was probably stronger than I was but had much smaller hands, he was going all over the place with the recoil.
@MagicCat3 I believe what you're saying, but my glove size is large, and that's in tight-fitting mechanics' gloves. In other words, my hands aren't huge gorilla hands, but they're not exactly small either. That 29 kicked my ass all over the place. Maybe I should try it with different ammo. I've fired a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm and had no trouble at all with it. I expected the G29 to have more kick than the Colt 'cause of the reduced size/weight, but I wasn't ready for that.
bullets will tumble also if the jacketing is poorly made causing them to peal off when the round is fired. This is the case is some of the BVAC bulk ammo. This may have been corrected but I am not sure since I haven't used any recently.
Fucking great videos!!!!! You probably have some of the best shooting/gun videos on the whole web....Great range, great guns, great info, great shooting...great guy...Thank you for putting your time into these videos. ................Okay I promise no more ass-kissing....hahahaha...Can't wait for more vids!!!!
i've been trying to see a size comparison of the g29 to the g19. i read the dimensions but its not the same. i've watched at least 300 of hickok45's videos over the years but haven't seen it compared.
hey hickok45 just wanted to tell you that i am a huge fan... and i sell guns for an outfitter... whenever i get a customer who is unsure about a firearm i tell them to go home and watch your videos because they are awesome and very informative... personally i am a huge 10mm fan and was wondering what ammo you would recommend for a glock 20 with a 6 inch factory glock barrel... for bear and hog hunting... thanks!
Hey, I like your videos. I'm just wondering if Glocks are legal to own and carry if it's registered to you and if you have a valid gun licenses In Canada Ontario. Im not a (Law Enforcment Officer)
hi hicock, im begining to get into fire arms and im a big fan of your videos. i was wondering witch round is more lethal and inflicts most damage, .45 ACP or the 10mm round and wich would you prefer for home defense?
I've got a Glock 29, but I'm hoping they make a G29 Gen4. I've got a Glock 19 Gen4, and I love the new texturing and magazine release. Anyways, great video!
I really like the recoil and blast from the g29 it's very snappy i guess would be the word. i want to use it as my carry weapon but forbid i have to use it i don't want to be in trouble for using the 10mm caliber or excessive force. g30 is my carry weapon, i love both models because of the hand fit but the 30 feels a bit slopy in the recoil and blast not as snappy as the 10mm. maybe because it's a larger round?...
Thanks for another "great vid", and thanks for making me feel real good about what I just did.........ordered a G-29. Trying to figure out the best way to tell the "wife" LOL, maybe you should do a video on that. By the way, in my research in the last couple of days I've found a couple of companies, (Lone Wolf and Barstow), that make conversion barrels, (357 SIG and 40 S&W) along with of course the standard 10mm, that you can just drop in and start shootin'. Gives you a lil' more variety out
from what i can find I keep seeing this argument between 10mm and 45 acp. typical 10mm ammo is 165 gr at 1400 fps. typical 45 acp is 165 grains at 1050 fps. the 45 is .452" diameter, the 10mm is only .40" diameter, so it seems this bullet is pushed faster at the same weight in a smaller diameter package, fact of the matter is 10mm seems better all together, 45 can come in heavier loads but they go much slower. small diameter, high weight, better penetration with added knockdown.
@azreal289 moreover there have many many documented cases where someone had a thick coat on during the winter and was shot by a 45 acp only to have the coat slow it down enough that it didnt pierce the skin and only broke a rib. This was a big reason why police first were ready to embrace the 9mm up north. The drillpress like effect of a small diameter fast moving projectile was appealing when winter came, in addition to low recoil and high capacity.
@TheBassGuitarist1 Yup, MUCH more powerful than a .357 Mag (around 25-30%) if I remember right), and just a hair beneath the .41 Mag in power, kick is .45ish... hands down my favorite round. If they marketed it as ".40 Magnum" everyone would offer in this chamber.
Get a barrel swap and you can shoot .40 S&W for the range, only about $140 and takes all of 20s to swap out.
Thanks for doing this. It's a pleasure to watch your videos. I originally wanted to get a 10mm pistol, but after reading the stories about how powerful it is I didn't do it. This vid changed my mind again. I did not see it posted, but am wondering if that is a gen 4 with the recoil reduction. It will be for SD/HD. I'm gonna see if I can rent one now. Do you have any advise on the over penetration people keep talking about.
Just got the 29 SF and I love it. I've always been a 1911 person, but this is the perfect Backpacking gun.10 rounds of 10mm in a small durable package.
Thanks for the Video. Looking at my getting my first glock 10mm this spring for hiking and pig hunting. I have been carrying my G19 for hiking but would feel better with that big ol 10mm round with bears around. As always Great Video
@MrChamp51 well the popularity of the round could change in an instant if more manufactures make guns for it, by no means is it dead or close to dying.
HI HICKOK, I GOT A G29 SF FOR CHRISTMAS & I TOOK IT APART FOR CLEANING AND NOTICED THAT IT HAD A STIFF RECOIL SPRING LIKE MY GEN 4 MODEL 22. DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT? BY THE WAY , HUGE FAN OF YOUR VIDEOS.
Hey, I thumbsdowned your comment by accident. I was trying to give it a thumbs up and was distracted by the phone. I just wanted to apologize for that and to set the record straight. Hickok45 rocks!!!!
@WarriorSpirit3a its ok man, i dont see the thumbs down. and if you go back and give it a thumbs up, its just like switching your choice and it would be a thumbs up. and thanks man
I do a lot of camping and hiking in AK, MT, WY and ID. I have run into more than a few Bears and never had a problem. That doesn't stop me from having bear spray and a firearm. I am getting on in years, ie. gotta cut back on the weight that I pack. I have been carrying a S&W 500, 4" or 50 Beowulf rifle. They both use the same size bullet. I have been loading a .50 cal Belt MTN. Punch bullet. I don't own any Glocks. I know it's not perfect, but what do you think of a 29 for mtn carry?
@rbelena tumbling happens when the bullet de-stabalizes, that doesnt happy in a rifled barrel unless its the wrong size barrel or the bullet destabalizes inside someone. keyholing doesnt happen in properly maintained firearms and should not happen.
@Grunt922 You might want to exercise your right to be better educated about why bullets tumble (to quote you," keyholing doesnt happen in properly maintained firearms and should not happen."). This is a statement of ignorance. Rate of twist, sectional density, moment of inertia are a few factors to consider. I have never heard of or seen in print, "tumbling of bullet due to maintenance issue". I wouldn't even consider the issue of a leaded barrel to be a valid argument for this topic.
@arkangel8419 I'm not a 10mm shooter myself, but having watch Hickok's videos, I would say that the amount of recoil depends on the loads being fired. There are lower powered 10mm FBI loads, and I imagine the recoil could be around the same as the standard .45 loads from the glock 27. This is, however, purely from what I have gathered second hand - so await the answer of a load specialist - there's sure to be one coming around soon enough.
I see the Austin Peay shirt you are wearing. I was an observer for their FLW Outdoors College fishing team for the South East Regional Championship here in Florida. 4:52 Checkin to see if the fuzz is near by from all the rounds going off... j/k
I see the Austin Peay shirt you are wearing. I was an observer for their FLW Outdoors College fishing team for the South East Regional Championship here in Florida.
How stout is the recoil on one of these compact Glocks compared to say a .45 ACP 230 standard P? Dunno what type of ammo you use but I'm particularly interested in the 135 grainer high-vel loads.
hickok45 ...you're the best ..man. I love your videos. I purchased the sig226 .40 cal .22 conversion kit . It was nothing problems. I had to lube the hell out of the rail and fill the Mag with only 5 shells just to get it to work. Tony
Hey great vid I was wondering if you can shoot 40 Smith in a glock 20 or 29 without the conversion barrel. because i know it chambers and cycles. but i haven't tried to fire it it. just thought id ask
Hickok, I have been buying my 10 mm fmj's on line in bulk but have been noticing at about 7 yards the bullets are tumbling. What could cause this situation?
Either that or your barrel's so dirty/burnt out that it's gone smoothbore. Never heard of it with a 10mm, but I've seen a few .22's where people used too much cheap wax-coated rounds and ended up permanently ruining their barrel.
Hickok...I am new to your videos. I know very little about guns but I am interested in buying one for home protection. I have shot 9mm before and I am wondering how much more power a 10mm has. Also, is the 10mm a better choice over a 40 cal. gun? Thanks in advance!!
On the shots Hickok misses in this video you can actually see him leaning forward as he takes his breath. On the shots he makes you can see he stays absolutely rock steady. This man has the most amazing form and consistency of any shooter I've ever watched, and this video is especially great because it's a nice reminder that, like anyone else, he's human and can make mistakes or have a bad day. HICKOK FOR PRESIDENT, people!
Glad I came across this video. Considering the G29 and watching you shoot it made any hesitation I had go away. Thanks for your time putting this on the web. Much appreciated!
Is the 10mm now a days loaded the way it was meant to or is it lighter? Im thinking of getting the g29 but if the 10mm now a days is anemic I don't know....
@eamonher You must be thinking of the FBI 10mm load of years back when the FBI decided to switch to this caliber due to the shootout in Miami. At any rate, full power 10mm loads are available. Just google it to see what's recommended for self-defense or whatever purposes you wish.
@eamonher I've looked into this myself also. From what I've read, the Winchester 175gr Silvertip and the DoubleTap 165gr round are loaded to there full potential for a 10mm round. Actually, I believe most all of the DoubleTap 10mm ammo is loaded pretty stout, but the 165 gr. seems to be the most lauded. Massad Ayoob has also said he uses the DoubleTap 165gr. in his 10mm. I've shot the Silvertips, and the gun is still well behaved and controllable for the power of the round.
I love your videos. Please keep it up. I currently have a Glock 21 for home protection but I am looking for a good conceilment pistol. I am considering the Glock 29. What do you use?
This was a useful video actually to me to see you think through the shooting performance and made adjustments. All new shooters have to try and think through what does the pattern on the target tells me about the shooting performance. To see you work through the process on this video was as useful as if you had hit every one perfectly every time.
heard you say you was in a competition in lexingtn ky i have been trying to get into competition but theres not even a gun club around here i live in london ky im sure you know wher that is any ways send me some info on how to get into shooting send me a email at hheathphilpot@hotmail.com
Glad To Be in the same state as you Mr Hickok45 .. I actually have both the g20 and the g29.. both with night sights have not shot the g29 yet but the 20 is a dream to shoot , and I am going to start carrying the 10mm g29 .....it is as you said a lot of gun in a small package have you tried a pinkey extension for the 29 and have you had any of your plus 2 mag extensions jam ?? or grab the follower as the 29 is my carry piece Do you reempty/reload mags everyday to prevent malfunctions?
Sad that the FBI was unable to keep the 10mm as the standard issue caliber. The 10mm is loaded to 40 S&W levels by Hornady, Federal,Remington.Winchester does load the Silvertip to real level 10mm.DoubleTap is the best deal going for the 10mm.
@krkabob: In Bear Country, just pack a Ruger or Smith in .44 Magnum with some 340 grain Buffalo Bore......hate to have a "stove pipe" jam with a protective momma bear comin' at ya....... :)
THAT .44 MAG 340 GRAIN B-BORE WILL KNOCK A GRIZ DOWN!!!!!! SOME MEAN STUFF.......
.....OR, u can say screw it all, and get a S&W 500 Hand Cannon........ :)
@hickok45 I just bought my first glock, 23. While going through the manual, they recommend none in the chamber for civilian carry. For now I will probably do that. You can get very fast at racking the slide on the draw with practice.
@freeze427 forget that i never carry one in the chamber wile carrying a glock..unless its open carry..to much room for error when carrying it concealed
He is not lying about the power according to the data. That things is screaming at around 1300-1400 ft/s. I just wonder if the ammo is really expensive.
For shame, you have not seen my G26 videos! You can check my Glock playlist. I think I have about 25 or 30 Glock videos, but not that many models, of course.
Fists can only get you so far, when a killer is coming at you with a knife or gun try to take a swing at him...its not going to work out too well. Sometimes a gun is needed to equalize the situation but remember the gun is nothing more than a tool, that thing between your ears is the real weapon.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
nobody comes at me with a knife or a gun..im 15, trying to run away, have nothing, im tired, hungry, depressed, what the fuck is there to take from me, i own nothing, i have never owned anything in my life. the only money or things i have are from drug money..selling weed..and id be glad to give any of it up..
i just dont play around with food..
idk, people say my punches are enough to kill a man
@mds29 re:tumbling. And maintenance. If you allow the barrel to become severely leaded, it can cause the barrel to essentially become a smoothbore.

Informative
Fun
Proof that pistols are accurate as long as one sends several thousand(s) of rounds downrange.
The ring from the "full power" ammo is significantly different than the earlier practice rounds.
Don't ya reckon the pistol shoots high because of short barrel, recoil impulse brings the muzzle up a tad?

I do a lot of camping and hiking in AK, MT, WY and ID. I have run into more than a few Bears and never had a problem. That doesn't stop me from having bear spray and a firearm. I am getting on in years, ie. gotta cut back on the weight that I pack. I have been carrying a S&W 500, 4" or 50 Beowulf rifle. They both use the same size bullet. I have been loading a .50 cal Belt MTN. Punch bullet. I don't own any Glocks. I know it's not perfect, but what do you think of a 29 for mtn carry?
andrelemalle 1 year ago
which do you think is better the 29 or the 20?

@dddman777 I HAVE BOTH & THE 20 HAS A LITTLE LESS KICK TO IT ,BUT I CAN CONCEAL THE 29 BETTER. BOTH ARE AWESOME WEAPONS.

tumbling is when the bullet hits the target at an angle also called keyholing...
rbelena 1 year ago
@rbelena , OK . . . . . . .
hickok45 1 year ago 47
@rbelena tumbling happens when the bullet de-stabalizes, that doesnt happy in a rifled barrel unless its the wrong size barrel or the bullet destabalizes inside someone. keyholing doesnt happen in properly maintained firearms and should not happen.
Grunt922 3 months ago

@Grunt922 You might want to exercise your right to be better educated about why bullets tumble (to quote you," keyholing doesnt happen in properly maintained firearms and should not happen."). This is a statement of ignorance. Rate of twist, sectional density, moment of inertia are a few factors to consider. I have never heard of or seen in print, "tumbling of bullet due to maintenance issue". I wouldn't even consider the issue of a leaded barrel to be a valid argument for this topic.

How can a 10mm be more powerful than a .45? Just curious. Don't know a whole lot about guns.

@VANS2free bc the laws of physics said so...look at it like this, what will do more damage, a corvett going 70 mph or a f150 goin 10 mph

Ronald3570 1 year ago
how would you rate the recoil on this compared to the .45 glock of the same size?
arkangel8419 1 year ago
@arkangel8419 I'm not a 10mm shooter myself, but having watch Hickok's videos, I would say that the amount of recoil depends on the loads being fired. There are lower powered 10mm FBI loads, and I imagine the recoil could be around the same as the standard .45 loads from the glock 27. This is, however, purely from what I have gathered second hand - so await the answer of a load specialist - there's sure to be one coming around soon enough.

How stout is the recoil on one of these compact Glocks compared to say a .45 ACP 230 standard P? Dunno what type of ammo you use but I'm particularly interested in the 135 grainer high-vel loads.

Hickok, I have been buying my 10 mm fmj's on line in bulk but have been noticing at about 7 yards the bullets are tumbling. What could cause this situation?
rbelena 1 year ago
@rbelena , Wow, if they are tumbling at 7 yards, there is a serious problem. The bullets would have to be WAY undersized, I think.
hickok45 1 year ago 11
@hickok45
Either that or your barrel's so dirty/burnt out that it's gone smoothbore. Never heard of it with a 10mm, but I've seen a few .22's where people used too much cheap wax-coated rounds and ended up permanently ruining their barrel.
IcabodCrane 1 year ago
@hickok45 could it also be the wrong weight for that particular gun? maybe the wrong twist in the barrel

Is the 10mm now a days loaded the way it was meant to or is it lighter? Im thinking of getting the g29 but if the 10mm now a days is anemic I don't know....
eamonher 1 year ago 2
@eamonher , Not sure. I load a pretty stiff load and buy very little factory ammo.
hickok45 1 year ago
@hickok45 which would you prefer the .45 acp glock 21 or the glock 20 10mm
guythatmadethisvideo 1 year ago
@eamonher You must be thinking of the FBI 10mm load of years back when the FBI decided to switch to this caliber due to the shootout in Miami. At any rate, full power 10mm loads are available. Just google it to see what's recommended for self-defense or whatever purposes you wish.
isorivolta 1 year ago
@eamonher get glock 20c sf. unless you have bear hands
CottenCandyFckTart 1 year ago
@eamonher I've looked into this myself also. From what I've read, the Winchester 175gr Silvertip and the DoubleTap 165gr round are loaded to there full potential for a 10mm round. Actually, I believe most all of the DoubleTap 10mm ammo is loaded pretty stout, but the 165 gr. seems to be the most lauded. Massad Ayoob has also said he uses the DoubleTap 165gr. in his 10mm. I've shot the Silvertips, and the gun is still well behaved and controllable for the power of the round.

wahoo7777 1 year ago
This was a useful video actually to me to see you think through the shooting performance and made adjustments. All new shooters have to try and think through what does the pattern on the target tells me about the shooting performance. To see you work through the process on this video was as useful as if you had hit every one perfectly every time.

What do you think about carrying one in the chamber or not?
freeze427 1 year ago
@freeze427 , That's up to the individual and the training/experience involved.
hickok45 1 year ago 2
@hickok45 I just bought my first glock, 23. While going through the manual, they recommend none in the chamber for civilian carry. For now I will probably do that. You can get very fast at racking the slide on the draw with practice.
freeze427 1 year ago
@freeze427 forget that i never carry one in the chamber wile carrying a glock..unless its open carry..to much room for error when carrying it concealed

self defense?why dont you just use your intelligence and fists to get out of a situation or avoid it altogether
Spike00513z 2 years ago
Fists can only get you so far, when a killer is coming at you with a knife or gun try to take a swing at him...its not going to work out too well. Sometimes a gun is needed to equalize the situation but remember the gun is nothing more than a tool, that thing between your ears is the real weapon.
