I hate serrated knives and marketing ploys, I'de rather spend a little more and get something else. Not really a fan of Gerber anymore I'de rather eat gerber baby food and buy a Marbles knife.
I like BG but Cody Lundin, Dave Canterbury and Les Stroud, they know the importance of conserving energy! Which BG completely fails on. It's a good show, and now also a GAME... (probably made by gerber as well), I mean come on! Les Stroud has a knife him self, the Helle Temagami, but that's a really nice knife!! And his face is certainly not on the box provided by Helle. Cody Lundin has a classic mora knife... sheep ass cute blade, and Dave well he got whatever Dave likes to bring :p
I have to say I'm super impressed with the way you reviewed this knife job well done my friend got me subscribed to your channel. and the knife is awesome..
i love bear grylls but all of his knives suck, shitty steel, look like shit, just gimmicky crap, for the price you could get something awesome from another maker, sorry bear but you kind of sold out on this project
The steel certainly isn't the greatest, but the heat treatment matters more. It's a proven winner for a very cheap price but I hate the handle. I'd rather have by Buck CSAR-T or virtually any CRKT knife with me if was in a situation that this knife was designed for.
@chewouch Im planning on a kit consisting of a CRKT M21 04G and a Becker BK-2 for my heavy duty tasks. The folder I think is nice since you can easily deploy it and it's quite a tough folder as well. But I put no consideration in to a knife that comes with a "mil grade... mildue" resistant sheath... I mean either its tough as hell and you get what you pay for, or you get some crap that Gerber makes... with BG's signature on it (as if thats a quality assurance).. If BG used his own collection...
@guldahlrahmi Yeah, I know what you're saying. I don't particularly care for Gerber knives except this one and the Prodigy.... CRKT and Cold Steel are defintely better brands. Hell any Cold Steel and Ka-Bar too I'd trust anyday over a Gerber. Love the CRKT knives, especially the M16s and M21s..they're tactical knives are pretty cool too like the Fire Spark. Those 3 brands I just named might be the best knives money can buy IMO. The only thing with Ka-Bar I hate is the "CHINA" on the blades.
@Theenormityofitall I feel you when it comes to country of origin, but the price pointer I believe is something to put into consideration, and mostly the chinese are not bad on taking instructions as long as their QC process is thorough enough. CRKT all their 8Cr14MoV in fact all Cr blades are chinese steel, and assembly done down there but i think its ok as long as it's visible in the price tag. I bought a Norwegian made knife Helle GT, fantastic blade but not worth the price tag 148$
@guldahlrahmi Yeah, the Chinese made knives are actually pretty good and their steel isn't bad at all...Kershaw and of course, Spydie uses it in their "Value Folders" and it's supposed to be about the same as AUS 8...but once again, heat treatment matters most of all. Look at the Kershaw Half Ton or any of the "cheap" Ka-Bar folders made with Chinese steel...pretty damn good and tough, as well as CRKT. I just don't like seeing the actual word "CHINA" on the blade of a knife.
@Theenormityofitall Got ya! To that I agree, of course almost everybody does that, I would appreciate that everybody stopped doing that at all, I must say that it''s better with USA on the blade, even Norway, Sweden and even Germany ;) But thats just my opinion.
Of course as always, any tool that works for you is a good tool, and if the BG series works for you then thats good for you! impossible to argue with ;) Just to have that said!
Its a 420 hc stainless and high carbon contents more stainless but its a great back up folding survival knife im gettin one for sure to try out myself i might end up making it a edc.
Just a word of advice, go to your local outdoor or knife store and look at one of these Bear Grylls knives. Anyone of them from the sixteen dollar lock back to the "Ultimate Survival Knife". They all suck! I bought two and out of the package they were not sharp, and the tension on the pivot screw was so tight the knife would not open smoothly. There are many more high value knives available for the same price.
Great review. I plan on picking one up soon. But one tiny mistake that I found while watching your video... The blade is actually stainless steel with a higher carbon content than most. The blade does not contain enough carbon to be considered, "high carbon"

All the Bear Grylls knifes seem ok for the money but I hate serrated knifes. I'll stick with my Kabar or Cold Steel SRK.

@bigal231987 What other knife, or knifes would you suggest? As far as a reasonable sized blade handle etc in a folder.
Cheers.
