GP03 D.O. is a colony defense unit. Makes sense for it to have such an armament, to compensate against numerically superior mobile suit forces and the occasional ship that gets too close.

An Armored Messiah launching over 50 missiles in one go and using at least a dozen just to chase down a target is, however, a bit overkill.

But hey, this is Macross.
