Am I the only one who finds Danner painful to listen to? For a journalist, he's not particularly well-spoken, and is constantly reiterating phrases with slightly different wording and grammar.
His little breath intakes and lip-smacking drive me insane though.
I love how he admits his arguments at the opening, (all the arguments the anti war movement always use) are not actually an argument against removing Saddam from power. Everything after that is just a debate about tactics, the anti war position is indefensible.
defeatists can never admit that they were/are wrong. That would require that they are honest and care about the truth, which they quite clearly cannot.
The invasion of Iraq was an act of terrorism, the united states is a terorist nation, and Hitchens, as much as I like what he has to say about other things, is dead wrong in supporting the war.
its called support for arguement vs. your emotional remark. I dont like america but to call it a terrorist nation and believe that is just as radical as our lovely suicide bombers. Enjoy your 72 virgins.
I love Danner's opener. "Has Bush made us safer? No. I think he has not made us more safe. He has not made us safer. We are less safe. See Spot run. See Spot run less safely." Hahaha
I like Mark Danners manner of speaking, compliments Hitchens very well. He got it wrong towards the nd though. Iraq is not a ground for al queda to build it's base and support, it's a place for fanatics to arrive to their death, like moths to a flame.
He might point to the hundreds of thousands who have died in the meantime, and ask the innocent question if those deaths were worth it, and if it was up to America do make that decision.

The things that get you in trouble: Invasion, giving terrorists visas, nuclear weapons violation, so like Obama said to Rice
international law should be revised, but at the time they were in accordance
with it just by the laws.

why not?
hes been there a number of times...he met with the current president who was just elected.
he was invited to the white house before invaiding to give a "pep talk" for the war. HE KNOWS WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT!
DO more people hate us now then ever before? ABSOLUTLY YES!!!
ITS MEANINGLESS, ITS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST.
we should NOT be concerned with people who dont support us on this LIBERATION of iraq.

Time has proven that Danner is right, but Hitchens won the debate. He's so amazing.

Right, because we can adequately assess the outcomes of a war that isn't over yet.

@jsullivan80 that's sarcasm, it has to be because the facts show that iraq is worse than it was even in 1990

I wonder what this defeatist would say today given the turnaround in Iraq recently.
