  • Do they have Miranda rights?

  • True American Patriot

  • Noone wants to go out and be farm workers, much less Americans. We are pressured by society that we need to have a large bank account to measure our success. I am a law student, studied business, and live near the Mexican border. I have never known any farm workers who make anything near what is an acctable wage. Do not be ignorant to their plight. Which do you want? Cheap products or cheap labor? Sorry, you cannot have both.

  • First become a citizen ...second learn our language.......third if you don't want 1 or 2 do not come here and if the farmer can't get help ....shut it down!!!!!!!!!! it's a business like any other business....run it legal or shut it down!

  • @leojames321 Idiot... How old are you, 14?

  • @leojames321 We don't have an official language. Also, one period for each sentence will do. Posting a comment with four ellipses and more than half a dozen exclamation points in a row makes you sound like a thirteen year old.

  • @jayynecobb you need to chill the fuck out, he is a comedian...thats why he is making fun of it. You need to find a sense of humor, plus he was defending immigrant workers, which pick all the food you eat dickhead. Everyone is suffering because of the economy, not just you, one thing some Americans dont understand is what is like to be truly poor. 80 hours a week may be hard, try working for no money, cause thats what poor people do

  • @dannylolbbq1989 yes the economy is suffereing so get rid of the fucking illegal immigrants, many of whom pay no taxes, when there are actual citizens of this country suffering without work. it's a myth that americans wont do hard labor.

get rid of the immigrants and fucking labor unions.

  • I've also noticed that these jobs aren't offered to citizens usually, they'd rather give them to migrants for cheaper labor and more results

  • but they do have human rights. medical insurance and shade and breaks are not human rights and neither is employment. if the conditions are bad, no one is making them stay. they're not slaves. the fact that life is worse in mexico doesnt make the US evil. illegal workers are breaking the rules just by being here. that means they are COMPLICIT with the bad situation. this is like being sued by the guy who injures himself breaking into your home. he's not supposed to be there in the first place

  • @lhs04 What a terrible analogy.

  • (generic troll/response to troll comment mistakenly citing religion, history or racial relations issues to convince a stranger to change his worldview here)

  • @ruebque What the fuck does it matter if they're legal or not? They are human, where they were born should play NO factor in their ability to live in this country. The conditions are WORSE outside of the country which is why they won't leave. You're so fucking stupid its ridiculous.

  • @zNz1G being legal or not makes all the difference. it puts them in the situation of not being able to negotiate very well for things like higher pay and benefit for one thing. whats unfair is that they are completely at the mercy of their employers. but i disagree with your other statement, being born outside a country should play a factor in your ability to live in that country. governments need to retain the ability to determine who stays in and who stays out as a matter of jurisdiction.

  • @zNz1G and self determination. france had the right to say the germans couldnt come in and start changing all their laws during wwii didnt they? the only alternative is one worldwide government which isnt anywhere close to happening. in the meantime laws should have borders to keep them applicable, acceptable and enforceable to the people they impact. there happens to be one such border between the US and mexico and it needs to be respected. the difficulty is the US is having to enforce it alone

  • @ruebque People as ignorant and selfish as you are fucking disgusting. Spend a simple month living in a mud hut working 16 hours of labor a day for $3-5 a day, making millions for corporate executives to buy a new Lexus every other year, then come back.

  • @ruebque Get the fuck out of here. These people move here because the best jobs in their home countries pay less a day than what you make in half an hour. They come here to send their money back to their families so that they can get three meals on the table and MAYBE someday, buy a house with a real roof rather than tin scrapmetal. If their completely justified complaints are too much for you to handle, then may I sincerely suggest good sir, that you take the initiative and leave the country.

  • Well, until the unemployment for all the natural citizens is down to 0% we shouldn't even be allowing migrant workers. Then when it comes to where we actually have so many jobs that we need to bring them in, they need to be treated the same as natural citizens. If companies would concern themselves more with keeping their workers happy instead of lining their wallets extra, it would pay off more in the long run and its the right thing to do..

  • @hellodarkness84 The unemployment will never ever be down to 0% but you know that does not matter at all. People still need to eat and I do not see any Americans rushing to pick crops out in the fields. If you want me to go out there you had better pay me at least minimum wage and provide some basic health benefits. We need illegal immigrants, without them the price of food would sky rocket.

  • Its very interesting to see Stephen come in and speak with some charisma after all of this woman's droning. The overall impression I get of that room is that of a DMV or worse... a courthouse. Government is amazing, being what it is and that its run in environments which seem to have no life or feeling at all in their atmospheres and individuals who act accordingly.

In short, our world is overrun by zombies. I refer you to Pink Floyd's "the wall"

  • @Asjh89 here's how i see it:

since government actions affect the lives of every single person under it, a lot of pressure goes to those in power to get it all right. In order for the politicians to be as close to perfection as possible (in other words, in order to work for the best national benefit possible), it is necessary to set personal bias aside, and such bias is often tied with feelings and emotions.

  • @hesitation24

Well man I agree, our personal beliefs should be set aside for the whole of the people, of any group to be run. So that it could be run on a general consensus instead of my ideas or his.

Thats what we vote for but I'm skeptical as to wether votes are counted or not.

but if there is a consensus, then I agree anyways.

However I do think more positive color could be added to the environment.

If the vibes were more positive, the results would reflect that

    ~ Good vibes

  • Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum states there's between 120,000,000 to 180,000,000 Muslims that support terrorism (militant Islam). Majority don't speak out against it, and it's unknown whether this is due to fear or sympathy.

  • 3/3 C SPAN “Black Republican Forum” Session 2 (begin at 11:30) West said one of the 1986 caveats was to secure our borders, enforcement our laws, but we’re still talking about new amnesty like DREAM Act. We can’t allow local cities to make sanctuary cities policies, because they will bring our inner city turf wars to epic proportions by bringing in the drug cartel and Columbian gangs. (Mexican Gangs don’t recognize our borders established by the Treaty of Guadalupe)

  • 2/3 In November 2010, the unemployment rate was 9.8% with 15.1 million unemployed. (15.1 million/9.8%) = 154 million are able to work in the workforce. 11,941,812 (or 11.9 million) skilled jobs provided to illegal immigrants. GOOGLE “illegal immigration counters”, the 15.1 million unemployed could take the 11.9 million available jobs. The unemployment rate could be reduced to 2.1% {{15.1-11.9)/154}

  • 1/3 Immigrationcounters com 97% illegal immigrants are from Mexico. Illegalimmigrationstatistics org $1117 - The average amount you and your family paid in taxes this year to support illegals. 51% - The percentage of Mexican immigrant households that use at least one major welfare program. 28% use more than one.

  • dis nigga off da hook

  • "the americans are tough, and they do tough jobs" 3:07-3:09........ well so does every other country..........

  • 3:56 this was a direct attack at that douche who asked Colbert to leave halfway through the hearing.

  • The migrant workers endure constant hardship. They take very difficult jobs for low pay and no rights. They provide an essential service to the country. And all the while they are harrassed by "real" citizens, whose biggest contribution has been being lucky enough to be born in the right place at the right time. A lot of these high paid senators look like they can hardly be bothered to stay awake.

These people are devoting their lives to be part of a great country. They should be treated better.

  • @agentchuck2 My nieghbor, an immigrant from Ecuador who yes came to this country illegaly, is a paint contractor who makes $110,000 a year. He pays his employees $10 per hour when the average American painter would make $18 per hour. Labor, the force that has built our countries middle class, is being dwiddled down to nothing and the bare minimum. Would the Average American work these jobs? No, because the average American knows better than to sell himself short for the sake of ethics.

  • @agentchuck2 yeah damn us people living here legally. dont you know we should give these criminals everything they want?? fuck the citizens! we're not brown or charming!

fucking left wing stupid bullshit. fuck yourself in your own ass with a baseball bat faggot.

they send their fucking money to their goddamn homelands, you jackass. you know nothing about illegal immigrant laborers. and here in ny they get paid between 100 and 200 a day CASH which is more than most citizens.

    fuck them.

  • @msa1985 I work in South Korea and send my money back to my homeland. It's what everybody does in the global economy. The point of this speech was that they need to improve the visa system so that we don't make them criminals. Of course, I don't hear people calling all the farmers out there criminals. Also, It's seriously not hard work to find. If you want to do that job, go do it. I'm sure they'd hire a skilled picker like yourself who's fluent in English over an illegal immigrant.

  • @agentchuck2 "real citizens" do you know what citizenship is dumb ass. Citizenship is a legal, not a spiritual thing.

  • @rlop101010 you are arguing with someone on youtube from a post that is over a year old... you might want to chose your battles a little more carefully.

  • @thepeterjoyce Reddit sent me here. I really didn't notice.

  • @rlop101010 as someone that also comes from reddit, this makes me ashamed.

  • @BlazeWill What, because I am not an atheist liberal? You are the reddit that I am ashamed of.

  • @rlop101010 no, because you are trying to debate someone that has posted a year ago. if you want to believe in magical sky daddies, that is up to you.

  • @BlazeWill So, you are saying that you are ashamed of me because I made the simple error of not checking the date that the comment was posted?

  • it is a sad reminder of how poor the public school systems are in this country when so many can not even read a statement and grasp it's meaning..jethro bodean has more sense

  • there is a endless amount of crime commetted by illegals in this country daily...5 farm workers have been charged with murder and are still at large.. if colbert had a family member or loved one raped and murdered by a illegal would he still testify in "character"..I pray it happens so we can see

  • @scalplifter55 I don't understand, do you want more rapes or less?

  • @SOLOcan you dont understand?...reread or better yet get someone to read it for you and explain it....another public educated nitwhit...geez

  • @scalplifter55 Yes, I keep reading it and reading it and it makes less sense every time I do. You say that illegal immigrants are raping and murdering people and yet in the same sentence pray that someone else gets raped.

Also dunno what you got against public education; if education was more affordable perhaps you could have got some?

  • @SOLOcan sorry but I dont argue with idiots...its a waste of my time

  • @scalplifter55 so 5 of them have raped and killed people? i guess that would make them all horrible, ruthless, evil, criminals. or you know, maybe they're part of the human race... it's possible.

  • @freeofkings 5 still at large in one state...they are here illegaly and commiting crimes...do you go to other countries to commit crimes?...your just another simple shit liberal..maybe if they ass raped you then you might think different or would you go pick lettice whith them?

  • @scalplifter55 i just think your being a bit of a biot, condemning a lot of people over a few. are you white? must be a nazi. black? you must be in a gang. you can't label a race. we have a word for what your saying "Racist"

  • @freeofkings oh golly gee...you must be a liberal....every one is a racist in your eyes right...is nancy pisslosi your mommy..put your hands around your neck and jerk real hard...maybe you might dislodge your head from your ass...if not just squeeze real hard..either way you might see the light

  • @scalplifter55 what you just committed was ad hominim. you did not put forth any reason i was wrong other than that i was a lib which you dont even know for sure, and you insulted me. when you can converse in a civilized, educated manner please reply.

  • @freeofkings I guess a 20 year old with a god complex cant remember what he writes from one day to the next

  • @scalplifter55 also would prejudiced be a better word? heres the definition, you'll find that number two c especially suits you:

    (1) : preconceived judgment or opinion (2) : an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge b : an instance of such judgment or opinion c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics.

  • @freeofkings wow...looks like you can copy from a dictionary..I'm impressed...but seems to me all this computer time is taking away from your church time and I'm sure your pastor is in need of some fondling time so you run back to church and give him a ad-hummer...praze the lord

  • @scalplifter55 how exactly does that have anything to do with what we are talking about? you're just rasping for straws that aren't there now. just give up. not only are you prejudiced (against migrant workers, leberals, and apparently christians) your arguements consist of "your stupid" nice.

  • @freeofkings it's grasping at straws whistle dick try proof reading..the talking point was "illegal migrant farm workers"..you liberals cant GRASP the concept of ILLEGAL since they dont turn the other cheek they bend over and spead them...you have NO CLUE..but you will in another 20 years or so when your nuts drop and you quit shitting yellow but by then there may not be a US of A because of moroons like you..go back to your basement you bore me

  • @scalplifter55 of course i don't want them to be here illigaly. who does? what i'm saying is that they arent all rapers and killers. also i typed grasp, but my "G" key on the keyboard doesn't always work. try actually reading what the other person says before you respond.

  • @freeofkings oh it's my fault you G key wont work...typical liberal thinking.. blame someone else...who besides you said they were all killers and rapist...I said there are killers and rapist that are not being found and put in jail because of the politics of the day...the illegals are breaking the law...there are things called work visa's 2 employees at hardees could not speak or understand enough english to get the orders right..you think they have work visa's..your job will be next

  • @scalplifter55 i never said it was your fault my "G" key doenst always work, i simply was explaining why i spelled it wrong. also what you were saying sounded like you thought they shouldn't be here because they were rapists. sorry for the misread, maybe YOU should try proof reading, you'd find that your comments sound just like that.

  • @scalplifter55 So You're praying for someone to get raped? What kind of a god are you praying to?

  • @ConcernedCitizen158 I'm sorry would writing it in EBONIC's be better for you?...just like solocan...your public education is showing...sad very sad indeed

  • @scalplifter55 You sure do know how to be a hypocrite when it comes to education. "commetted" Really? I'd be inclined to think that it was a typo, but the e is 5 keys away from the i, so unless you have fat fingers I'll have to refrain from calling you a fucking idiot. Either way the world will look down on you.

  • this very commitee is the one that would NOT hear testimony from the Shaw family who's son was shot and killed by a illegal farm worker 1 day after being released from jail..Hoe lofgren and maxine THUG waters wont be on this committee much longer......

  • Hey, Chu, did Clint Eastwood or Swit testify in "Dirty Harry" or "Hot Lips" character? I didn't think so.

  • @FiendsInRedSatin1

hey fiend, did you ever want a back breaking, low paying farm labor job? didn't think so.

  • @sk8bow that has no relevance to it being inappropriate to have a comic doing his schtick on a supposedly serious subject in a supposedly serious committee meeting. It was a waste of taxpayer time and money and yet another reason why Congress deserves its low approval rating.

  • @FiendsInRedSatin1 "that has no relevance to it being inappropriate to have a comic doing his schtick on a supposedly serious subject in a supposedly serious committee meeting...."

that depends on how effective it is, don't you think? it's apparent it worked. you can see that by how much his testimony is in the news. he brought up his serious message and people LISTENED.

well, the people who aren't hypocrites understand.

all i'm trying to find out is if you're one of those hypocrites.

  • @sk8bow I'm sure his testimony is in the news given how it's not ever day that a comic gives a stand-up performance in character in a Congressional committee meeting. I don't care where one stands on this issue. It simply isn't appropriate for "in character" performances in Congress. I'm not sure what this "hypocrite" business is to which you keep referring.

  • @FiendsInRedSatin1

so if he was not in character and there less coverage of this important issue, you would find that acceptable? what's the focus here, being appropriate and ineffective or being outrageous and getting your point across? and as for the hypocrisy, 3:45 .

  • @sk8bow I understand why celebs are sometimes tapped to appear in Congress. It's an easy way to get attention and, so long as the celebs have some experience and knowledge in what they testify about, it's acceptable. Doing schtick isn't. I do care about illegal immigration and how businesses have undercut wages for citizens and legal immigrants by preying on illegal labor. It's a problem that has been around for a long time and needs to finally be addressed.

  • @FiendsInRedSatin1

to be honest, i felt the same way. before i watched colbert's testimony, it made me feel strange to know that my government isn't being professional and formal. it's sad that a person has to do schtick to make an important point.

  • @sk8bow unfortunately our govt. has gone the way of being a sideshow a long time ago. It's just sad when one thinks about it. There are really serious issues that ought to be seen to and yet the people who are getting paid to do just that don't seem to care. They only care about getting re-elected.

  • @FiendsInRedSatin1

and one other thing, you should care about the issues that effect us all. i agree with you that congress is ineffective and stuck though.

  • @FiendsInRedSatin1 ...sk8bow is a lib who thinks obammy and the unions are going to pay his rent and car payment..there is no way you can get him to see the truth through his rose coloerd glass's

  • @scalplifter55

    fiendsinredsatin1 has my respect.

i don't think fiend is trying to persuade anyone. he seems the type of person who sincerely cares about doing what's right. he feels it was inappropriate for colbert to be character in a professional function of OUR government.

it's not about "obammy", which shows your racist view, liberal, conservative, left, right bs we constantly focus on.

your view is impotent when you are rude and aren't serious about the issues.

  • I turn off by hearing ability whenever a politician speaks. But when Stephen Colbert breaks out of character and has something important to say, I sit and listen attentivly.

  • Help me out....the guy behind Colbert.....is that Bill O'Reillys nephew or Clark Kent??

  • Is that guy on the left dead? His eye lids seem to move from time to time but still.

  • @naurispunk.... Dont be deceived........after exhaustive research I have determined the guy sitting directly behind Colbert is either Bill O'Reilly's nephew or Clark Kent......you be the judge...I report you decide!

  • It will be in the congressional record that Steve Cobert prefers to have a Chilean giving him a Brazilian (shave his pubic hair). Comparing this to Republicans calling Elmo is odd. Does that make that a good idea? Congresswomen Chu continues to act like this is serious yet has no solution.

  • This is an issue most of us know nothng about and yet we know quite abit. We all know these jobs are hard and most of us will avoid them like the plague in the US. However, if they are doing the work, in my opinion, give them temporary rights as all other american workers. It isonly right. Is n't it a dog on shame that a comedian has to speak before congress to get this issue on the table and open our eyes wide to it? It made me rethink.

  • I hope it's real.

If so, finally someone showing what congress really is - a joke.

  • is this real?

  • @13expose13 (I'm not in America)

  • Stephen Colbert 2012!

  • Who sent them the invitation??? Are you on the clock, colbert?

  • Its to bad most media channels dont mention this part at all, this really shows what his true character is.

  • Go Stephen Colbert!!! Is amazing how so many are complaining about jobs and immigrants and at the end only 7 individuals took up the offer to be a field picker. "Migrant workers suffer and have no rights" - enough said. As for Congressmen being embarrassed or felt disrespected it by Stephen Colbert being in character, they can kiss my ass, these are the same people that had Elmo the puppet testified.

  • Those last few moments.... that's the real Stephen Colbert - the human being, not the comedian. What an extraordinary man - and he knew what he was doing would get the media and the public to focus on the plight of farm workers.

  • colbert looks like the Cable guy

  • Stephen broke character and got back in touch with his Human side.

  • @fig1024 I didn't say they were bad..they are excellent workers. I was answering to a comment insinuating that I have never been to Mexico, so how would I know the conditions. And we hire only LEGALS. we screen every person that walks through the door and I can spot a phony SS card a mile away anyway. And I'm sorry to say that most black and white Americans do not work as hard- but they would if the entitlements were taken away..

  • @Parigoris Just responding to your last point.

You are so ignorant it shows a bad future for america.

This idea that entitlements affects a persons ability to work is so easily debunked all you have to do is look at high paid workers who slack just as much as low paid workers.

You have hard working lower class just as well as hard working upper class, and in all wealth classes you have lazy people who dont want to do work and are fine with less then they can have due to lack of ambition.

  • That was the most inspiring thing I've ever heard on television in my entire life. If that didn't get through to the subcommittee, then they have no hearts whatsoever and there is no reason for them to even get together.

  • 4:40 Is that Sheila Jackson Lee on her fucking cell phone AGAIN?!!!

What a stupid disrespectful dumb bitch!!

<3 I love you Stephen Colbert!

    USA #1

  • The REAL joke is when Colbert tried to answer simple questions:

    watch?v=BUAA1xxRbW8

  • the congresswoman's reaction should have not been cut at the end...

  • @theakstonrock-I've worked in the construction industry for over 30 years and probably 90% of our employees are Hispanic, and either from Mexico, or first generation. Just an example..they stand on the seat of the porta toilets and squat on jobsites, because in Mexico they fear snakes coming up the hole. They used to all go back to Mexico for a couple months at the holidays- they don't even bother now because things are so bad.Any more questions?

  • @Parigoris If they are so bad, why doesn't the construction industry hire real Americans, especially now that so many looking for work?

  • @Fig1024 because they can hire the illegals for half the price

  • I beg to differ with Mr Colbert about the rights of the workers. #1- their conditions here are far superior to their Mexican way of life. #2- We have laws in California that we need to supply workers with 1 qt of water per worker per hour a day and supply them with a shade apparatus, as long as the temerature is over 75 degrees. My tax dollars pay for billboards by Cal-Osha in Spanish, trying to get field workers to drinklots of water and get shade.

  • @Parigoris which part of Mexico did you live and work in?

  • Yes this is the real colbert and I love him in all his incarnations.

  • Stephen Colbert makes the Media Look like useless Turds. Thank you Stephan for giving the Voiceless a Voice....

  • Colbert is a good Christian man with a heart of gold, and he demonstrates it with his serene smile and eloquent defense of his support of migrant workers - in which he quotes Jesus.

I knew he was a regular churchgoer and Sunday school teacher, but this is what Christianity is REALLY about.

  • Sorry, but please don't try to slap a fucking christian label on this. Yes that may be his religion, but it's not the point at ALL. No mater what religion you are, this is what you should be thinking. Me being an Atheist, I believe the same thing he does.

  • @pbmdh Totally agree. This is a humanity thing not a religion thing. He is doing this because he is a good person.

  • @pbmdh I mostly agree, but he did use a famous Christian bible quote (.."least of my brothers.." etc). Frankly, as a non-Christian, if most Christians simply acted like Christ and were non-judgemental, charitable (especially to the poor), pacifists, like Colbert, I'd like them a whole lot more. I keep trying to tell people that Jesus was a flaming liberal, but they don't want to hear it.

  • I like colberts argument. Americans have a long history of pushing off hard or unwanted labor on other races- I mean thats why they brought in slaves, because the poor labor was unbecoming of the superior whites, right? And now that the economy is crashing and we want these people out, but WHO IS GOING TO DO THOSE JOBS? Normal americans are too damn lazy. The mess america is in is completely justified, and I hope the economy does crash. Karma is a bitch, right?

  • the asian lady stumbles too much.

  • Who cares if 'Law Makers' were not amused. They're not our Leaders they were elected as out 'Representatives' - if we laugh they should be ashamed because Colbert was indeed MOCKING them. 99% of our elected officials are taking bribes and kickbacks from some corporate source - they are truly the scum of the earth. Pretending to be pious when all they care about is keeping their job by selling us out for a plush promised private sector job. They are whores any lobyist can buy for a few bucks.

  • I haven't felt this bad since my german teacher spoke english in high school the one time he was angry at the class... I found it shocking and powerful when Colbert broke character. Perfect answer to that question.

  • You're all looking at this SO wrong. The Dems knew that bringing him to Washington would increase Press on this issue...and it worked. Would you all know as much about the issue, or even know this was going on, if he hadn't spoke?

  • Although many of you disagree, he spoke the truth, regardless of who he is.

  • go to 3.30 first time ive seen colbert be genuinely liberal

  • @scalplifter55

Construction workers get paid a lot more and have benefits, and mostly are in Unions that fight for them. Who fights for the migrant farm workers that have none of those things?

  • @IRULEATHALO3 they come here to work since thier crime ridden country have none....so whats your point?...as far as unions go...they suck too...they will ruin this country...dam I forgot ALL liberals are woth $75 an hour...my ass

  • @scalplifter55 They come to work because cheap US subsidized corn killed Mexican farming. Tell congress to stop giving farm subsidies and let the free market correct food prices, it would slow down illegal immigration to a trickle.

  • @scalplifter55

"so whats your point?...as far as unions go...they suck too..."

unions suck? i'll tell you what sucks. outsourcing our jobs to china and india, that's what sucks. at least unions fight to keep our jobs here in america. who are you? are you some big corporation that is being bullied by unions?

unions aren't perfect but they do help keep their workers job's competitive with good pay.

liberal this, liberal that. shut up with your stupid labeling.

  • @IRULEATHALO3

i don't understand how a common blue collar worker can hate unions. they aren't perfect but at least your pay goes up for as long you build seniority and they keep from getting fired. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!!!

    people like scalplifter55 are impossible!

  • @sk8bow I have worked union and non-union jobs...union jobs you pay due's attend meetings and jump through thier hoops and dont dare say anything negative about how it is run or your black-balled...try and vote them out and see what treats you recieve...I can tell you have never been in a union...just like the union workers at chysler drinking and doing drugs at lunch..bet you dont know how many accidents and deaths that have happened because of that alone

  • @scalplifter55

i was in a union and my job was secure. i worked with management because i know unions aren't perfect. and i understand what you're saying about the problems with unions, but i still respect unions. they kept my job, and management and i learned how to work with each other after. an old manager of mine told me "smart minds think alike". he was complimenting me because i helped him think in a different way about worker, management relations. he was soon promoted.

  • @sk8bow if the union members get good leaders then the union can be a good thing...it seems the bad ones get in power and hook and crook to keep it...then the members just go with the status quo...I was asked to be a steward but declined since I would have had to go along with thier bull...not worth it since the members just wanted work not leadership

  • @sk8bow plus they know they wont be fired for sitting on thier butts..yeah they are woth $75.00 a hour and thier pensions being funded by your tax dollers..yeah I got woke up about unions when i got hurt on the job...never had a problem in a non-union job..they know if they dont pay scale they dont get workers..look at california

  • @scalplifter55 "plus they know they wont be fired for sitting on thier butts......"

that's what you and management always say. like i said, unions aren't perfect but so aren't you and management.

do you know how many jobs have been lost overseas???? around 3 million since the mid 90's.

but hey, you wouldn't acknowledge that if you could.

  • @sk8bow the over seas movement is because of the high tax structure in the US...and I never needed a union to protect my job...because I did my job and I did not go smokin pot and drinking during lunch hour thats for after work...we had 2 ironworkers killed by a crain operator who was drunk...drinking in the cab...the union fought for him...they did nothing for the families but we did..we took up a collection for them since we knew the union would and did fight them for death benifits

  • @scalplifter55 "...because I did my job and I did not go smokin pot and drinking during lunch hour thats for after work..."

who do you think you are???? do you actually believe every union worker is not hard working? you're full of it man.

listen, i don't know you or your experience, but i know better than to generalize people. you can't speak for every union worker.

besides, it's not like non-union workers don't drink or do drugs.

your perception of the world is flawed.

  • @sk8bow where did you read the word every...at 38 are you in need glass's or is that public education just not working for you?

  • @scalplifter55

it's not the union's fault for the duties of the company. if management is suspicious of drugs in the work place, they have the right to drug test then and there.

and for all the honest and hard working union members who you don't acknowledge, you can kiss there hard working asses!

and when your job is outsourced to china, you can blame yourself for not fighting for it.

big companies can care less about you. they more about being more profitable than last year.

  • @sk8bow it is spelled THIER ass's...your public education is showing...brought to you by a union teacher..your a much more productive member of society when your asleep!

  • @scalplifter55

their u goe agin, maykine ass sose e aye sionz AGIN!!!!!!!!!!!

now you add insult to injury. teachers in our public school are paid

peanuts, and here you are insulting them.

YOU ARE ANTI-AMERICAN LIKE ANY OTHER EXTREMIST!

    spell check please, thank you.

  • @sk8bow they average $56,000 a year...peanut's...yeah right

  • @scalplifter55

"the over seas movement is because of the high tax structure in the US...."

bullshit, it's mainly due to the cheaper labor. and i don't care about what your stupid co-worker did in the union. you can say that about some stupid non-union worker as well.

    whose side are you on?

  • @catndryer

    DER TERKA JURBS!

  • When Stephen Colbert breaks out of character, you know that what he will say something profound and true.... and Right.

  • @NarutoDetective Yeah, it was almost like he was pulling off a mask when he did that (When he straightened himself and got serious for a second). It's a sad day when comedians do a better job of covering politics in a satirical way, as opposed to our so called "serious" news reporters.

  • 3:41 my favorite

  • @godaniele

totally agree. what he said was painfully true and hopefully it made the people in congress sit back and think about what they do.

  • I'm glad Colbert did this "In Character". Even though it was satirically delivered, he made valid points in a manner that drew attention to the issues and did not detract from them. <3

@ whomever said we 'wasted $100k' on this, I think you should do some harder research. We didn't spend more than $100, as taxpayers, on this testimony. Stephen was there by invitation, but he paid for his own trip, his own food and his own hotel. He may have been provided lunch along with the water on the table.

  • This is one of the very few times you are going to see Colbert sincere or not in character, and I love it.

  • I'm happy that people like this are doing things like this. Regardless of your position, It's getting more of us involved and bringing some of these issues to our attention. Thank you Mr. Colbert.

  • @osallent $100,000. Where did you get that figure. Please tell me. Thanks.

  • "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." -- Matthew 25:40

true words that Stephen Colbert follows...

  • I'm conservative and thought this stunt was foolish, but there seems to be some real conviction in the words of Mr. Colbert. Not sure why congress chose him, but he made a valid and thought out point.

  • Come on! are those even real questions??? of course it MUST BE hot if you are all day aoutside at 95 degrees.

  • @Observer585

It's a congressional hearing you dunce. Proper etiquette is to STFU. Like your dumb ass should be doing right now.

  • @Observer585 um, him and Jon Stewart are educating America's youth more than any other new station out there. And how with this bad manners? He was invited to testify and might I remind you that the Republicans asked Elmo to testify before congress. Although he may have had a funnier approach to it, he made valid points and at the end of this video made a great point. You can return to watching Fox News now.

  • @Observer585 Nice to see you copy and paste the same exact comment on each of these videos. Congress deserves to be mocked, especially when they invite a comedian. And he didn't bomb, millions of people will be laughing at this for years to come.

  • @Observer585

I'm going to assume you're just really some bot setup by Fox. You have this same comment on every page featuring Colbert's testimony.
