I'm amazed they didn't take a stab at the Republicans seeing as how this is NBC. But this is when there was at least a modicum of fairness, even on the alphabet channels.
gee, those were the days... when the big 3 networks and the newspapers all had the same exact news, and controlled everyone's minds with no resistance at all.
1980 was a fascinating year when it came to sports, news, politics & current affairs but a rough year for America Economically & with the Iranian Hostage Crisis.
It bears mentioning that this was a terrible time for NBC. The network was a weak third place, far behind CBS and ABC. (In 1980, there were only three national TV networks. Cable had only just begun to make its way into people's homes).
After President Carter announced that the U.S. would boycott the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow (as a protest against the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan), NBC canceled its plans to cover the Olympics - costing the network tens of millions of dollars.
And now NBC is mired in 4th. It remains to be seen if Comcast can bring NBC back from last place, but I certainly hope so.
Thursday the news will be announced that Comcast will be taking ownership of NBC Universal; General Electric will retain a minority 49% ownership, with most analysts stating they'll sell their share in a few years)

@btm85bubs IIRC, they lost $80 million (1980) dollars on the rights and another $80 million in advertising revenue

There were actually two announcers heard at the start of this update - Bill Hanrahan and Fred Facey, the latter of whom was heard over the former.
