I really don't know what snare head to get, Its either going to be an emperor coated or an ambassador coated. But i'm definitely getting pinstripes for the toms :)

emperors and pin stripes are thicker, deeper tone, but less volume and top end crack. I prefer ambassadors when I play live, emperors for recording. every drummer is different though: )

That is a ridiculously over complicated version of the acctual beat and I dont think it works anywhere near as well

It's not over complicated, it's a very basic half time groove that matches the guitar hook and bass line. But I agree, it doesn't work aswell as the straight 4/4 groove of the original, this is just an improvisation on a common theme.

The drum machine is meant to be in the background, Jeff Pocaro played over the top of the drum machine doing a similar groove.

You should think about putting the drum machine back in and doing another recording.

I did put some soul into this, the original drums were 'almost' just an artificial drum loop, with some cymbals layered over it...which were cool for this track. michael, guitar, bass line is the order of importance for this track, and a simple back beat. bit like Billie Jean, simple drum groove, but really makes the song, just sits in the pocket.

I'm not disagreeing with you, the original beat was definately the way to go. But I've heard the song at least a hundred times, and this is just a 'gimmick' version of it to maybe hear it in a different light,

Rather than a lot of DJ's giving everything a 'doof' beat, and calling it a 're-mix', this is sort of the opposite in that, I messed with the syncopation.

My beat fits within the arrangement the song, kick is following the guitar part basically. Obviously not ideal, but it fits.
