Diana Ross..DAMN...no one like her, so just stop it with all these comparisons. The other women in the group probably didn't have the superstar talent that Diana Ross did, and if they did, nothing should have stop them from making it to the TOP. If I know I have talent beyond talent, I wouldn't let any mere mortal on planet earth or in hell stop me from showing the world and making great use of the God given talent. Diana Ross didn't let anything stop her which is the main reason why she succeed

However, there are those who love the cheap Vegas, rushed versions but you probably enjoy karaoke too.. I've worked w Ron Miller (the lyricist) and the words are what make THIS song.

@SpazChat Vegas as in SOUND, Einstein, not location. Too fast, too schamltzy, lacking feeling, raced through as if it doesn't matter, arranged for a crowd that wouldn't know deeply felt music if they tripped over it in the street. That's what "Vegas" in music means.

@OldMotownFan , people that said that can't get her Supremes days out of their heads. There was a time when her voice was quite high pitched and thin sounding, however the sound still worked. Many people prefer the way her voice sounded in the late 70's and 80's cause by this time it has lost almost all of its tinniness. I'm a freak I guess, I really enjoyed the tinny sound she used to have.

When an artist cannibalizes a hit record it is because they are either a) bored singing after so many years, b) sing it quickly to be done with it, or c) know the audience is too inexperienced and ignorant to recognize the difference. I take it you are with group c.

@SpazChat I'm not sure what tonedeaf ears you were cursed with, but unless you're talking about the last ten years of Whitney's career, she has been known as THE live performer of the century. Whitney's live performances have always overshadowed her studio recordings. You sound like a fool to even lump her in there with Beyonce and Madonna. Madonna isn't even a singer. Beyonce is another story. Whitney slays Diane from stem to stern in vocals whether live or in the studio.

@Neno8403 I love Whitney & have great admiration for her, and it sorrows me to see the woman she's unfortunately become (like a leaf out of a Billie Holiday bio)..but I have to disagree with you about her live performances. I've seen her live in her earlier career and I was extremely disappointed. She could NOT hack it live! I saw her live last year and I'd rather not even talk about what we experienced (I LOVED her last album btw). I've seen Diana umpteen times and have NEVER been disappointed!

Whitney is known as and labeled by the music industry as a LIVE performer. She has been hailed by both music critics and the general public as a LIVE performer. I can refer you to countless videos posted on YT showing her unmatched live abilities. I have many friends who don't even like Whitney but have agreed she's an amazing live singer.

@best1forward , That's why she was such a big star. Who cares if her voice didn't sound like a tuba. That's a blessing in my opinion. It sounded like a clarinet or violin, viola, pianos, etc..Plus, even with her seemingly thin voice, she was able to infuse tons of expression into the sound.

HORRIBLE! Yes, a great voice and a GREAT song! BUT...sung with absolutely no feeling, rushed like she was singing on a Carnival Cruise ship and it was sinking! Didn't even sing the beautiful second verse! Pffffffff...whatever...she butchered it.

Its fashionable these days to trash Ms. Ross, but I remember as a teen everyone who sang wanted to be her and lead the songs, we wanted to jump over our humble beginnings and sing for queens and kings, and hang out with the Beetles, and Stevie Wonder. She was so glamorous....outdressed them all.
