Prop 8 is a clear attempt to enforce a religious belief on a government issue. Religion and law are separate. 50 years from now, hopefully, we'll look back on prop 8 and say it's "a ridiculous law that would never pass." In the Jim Crow south, discriminatory laws were put in place on a regular basis through "representational government". Does that mean majority rule is ALWAYS legitimate? No. That's why we have supreme courts, to uphold people's right when they're not protected by the democratic process. Which is why I'm terrified that CA overturned the ruling of a court that was meant to extend rights.

The proponets of Prop 8 state the same arguements of 'protecting the sanctity of marriage' as racist that opposed interracial marriage. Racist America also used the Bible to oppose blacks' rights and women's right. This is a repeat of assaults on civil rights. Same mind, same arguements, same motivation, new faces. And remember it took courts to overturn segregation (Jim Crow Laws) for EQUALITY.

Prop 8 is to gay marriage as Separate But Equal was to black rights. Not everyone shares the same religious beliefs, this whole proposition is flawed. Lets stick to separation of church and state shall we. SSM will actually end up being helpful, to teach children to start accepting others for who they are(goes for every issue, not just gay marriage). Can we say goodbye to school violence?

I actually think this makes some sense (making it the only piece of this set not completely idiotic), however saying only opposite-sex marriages are actual marriages is like saying 'you can sit here, but not there'. Prop 8 is a clear attempt to enforce a religious belief on a government issue. Religion and law are separate. The constitution clearly and simply states that all men are born equal, and thus equal rights should be given. Not allowing homosexuals to marry is denying them a right that heterosexuals are given. I'm a heterosexual, intelligent, free-thinking woman, and if I was an American, I would say no to prop 8.

I am a spanish gay guy living in the USA. If an american guy wants to marry me, he can't. Once my VISA is over, I would have to go back to Spain, and my american boyfriend would have to come with me, or we would have to break up.

It seems that the word "marriage" is more important for some people than the rights for their friends.
