GR2 and Summit Strike were the last great ghost recon games, as well as rainbow six 3 being the last great rainbow game. i HATE graw and rb6 vegas, and i HATE who ever is responsible for running both franchises into the ground and sullying ubisofts once good name. seeing what happened to these games is one of the most disappointing things i've ever seen.

@bloodomen81 it's ridiculous how you, in GRAW 1 & 2 are cut down to a "front line infantry" soldier. Ghost Reon was all about The Ghosts' Creed: Swift. Silent. Invisible. in GR 1 & GR:JS i've been able to complete all the missions with only one man(not counting missions that require a Demo Expert obviously...): The Sniper. and when unlocked, i usually use the specialist Scott Ibrahim, who comes equipped with the M82A1 .50 Caliber sniper rifle with a 12X Scope. I Miss the good old days of G.R.

@bloodomen81 yeah man....the key to victory for me in Ghost Recon 1 and J.S. were Snipers. i used to roll with A & B Packing a rifleman, support gunner, and sniper, to balance the teams needs, but now on most missions all i need for a is a single sniper, and nothing more, besides when i need the demo guys. cuz once you play the game through once or twice, you learn to master stealth

Really the entire original idea of the series was NOT to be in the middle of a battle, but to be the tip of the spear. Striking with surgical precision BEFORE the Military had to be called in.

@william997davis: I love the traditional crosshair. First time I ever tried to master the later versions from GRAW onwards, I was irritated by control overload. It's rather like the fighter aircraft simulation games: it'd probably be easier to pilot a jet than operate everything by the endless keyboard or console commands. F1 + Ctrl + 6 + Delete + M + 1 + WSAD + Mouse 1 = Go prone.

i was kinda disspointed with the lack of weapon variety in the single player game.

what i found was that GR2 had the realistic pace and fear that war is. no medkits, no enemy trackers, no run and gunning (obviously you know which modern game i'm refering to). i actually had to go slow and stealthy through the GR2 game so i didn't just get my ass whooped. though it could use a graphics and AI update, it is one of my favorite mil-sims.

@Reduxalicious I'm not sure about what mode ur talking about "Hamburger hill", but i think it must be similar to "firefight". For me i just took a DMR and hid in the hills till they came for me. My favorite type of game mode was recon. The fear of being discovered and only being armed with a pistol (1911 personal fav) and feeling actually special recon ops was good. (now adays pistols have like sniper accuracy....and long range capabilities...)

actually when i was playing (as a kid) i would get so freaked out when one of my team members died that i would restart the mission. Mainly I was worried that it would be like real life an that if you lost your member in a mission you could never use them again in future missions ;p.

And the player had more control over the squad, so one would be able to employ more intricate strategies. Furthermore, the level layouts weren't linear like they are in the more recent GR games. I personally thought it was better that way.

The developers now fail to realize that special forces doesn't only mean that you're the most badass soldier there is. Awesome game really, awesome theme as well. Too bad people comment on pixelated pictures and futuristic weapons. While I prefer the first GR, I did like some of the segments in GRAW, even if the game turned kinda obvious cliché-ish. GRII was before that though, which I really like it.

FYI, the HK XM8 (Heckler & Koch and the US Army) is an actual developed assault rifle and was hoped to replace the Colt as a standard rifle. The project was cancelled around 2005 though.
