  • I love the bags that fold up and fit in my purse. I almost always remember to bring them along because they are just hiding in there. The trick is putting them right back once I have emptied it at home. Having 2 bags definitely helps.

    @ChristinaM55

  • You know what is environmental. Making lot of money. That really is the most environmental thing to do because when you make money you increase efficiency of world and conserve all its resources. Spending money to buy worthless crap is not environmental, spending it to make more money is most eco friendly and ethical thing to do. Also best imaginable charity is to make more money.

  • That's all I use, it's awesome, it saves not only resources, our planet but also money, especially since some cities and companies are starting to charge a few cents for the plastic ones. Great vid!

  • The thing that gives me the biggest laugh is watching people put bottled water into their eco-friendlyly bags - hehehehe.

Kidjon - quit whining. We libs just don't like your plastic rubbish blowing down our streets. And your guns have a higher than .00057% chance of killing us.

XaviersSecretary - it's "resort to paper" not "result to paper". Bags are made out of renewable farmed trees and reused waste not hardwoods.

  • Plastic doesn't really decompose anyway. It just ends up in micro particles in the rivers and ocean to be consumed by aqua life making even the smallest life a victim to pollution. Notable decreasing in sea bird population down to plankton is affecting ALL sea life and its mostly from plastic consumption.

  • Very nice, we actually did a blog on our site about these.

  • Anything that reduces plastic bag usage has my vote.

  • The bags are like bubbles you can make 6 of them from the average coke bottle. there is less than the average garbage bag or food bottle.

Garbage bags full of plastic wrappers go into landfill without complaint.

The phobia against shopping bags is akin to blaming the lowest common denominator.

A true farmer would welcome a water retaining layer under the crops.

Cotton bags are not eko friendly.

The only thing wrong with plastic bags is their habit of flinging themselves around the streets.

  • Please check out our blog on plastic bags at bagwithcare(DOT)blogspot(DOT)com

  • It shocking the space these bags can take up

  • A thousand years to degrade is wrong its about a hundred to 150 years.

  • i just farted!

  • Our capitalist retailers praise plastic shopping bags for speed and ease of transactions, and as consumers we appreciate this timesavings. We need a standardized cleanable & reusable shopping bag format, which will fit on the existing bagging stands in order to maintain the speed of the sales transaction. Banning would only shift production to other "use-and-toss" bags and not solve the problem.

  • there's so many things wrong with this world plastic bags, fake boobs(plastic bags), spray on tans, megamarts, (strip)malls, amazon, tv dinners, smoking bans, zero tolerance policies, american teens/twens, vynil villas, bad public transport, overregulated countries, food engineering, lobbyists sons of bitches, myspace, self promotion, overstatement and the list goes on...but isn't it the highest of feelings to experience all those things that are real, with substance and sustainability?

  • yo..how does it relate to the topic here?

  • relates to some comments in this discussion! but maybe it doesn't relate at all, you can then ignore this comment

  • Yeah, I used to know someone who chucked batteries everywhere, instead of recycling them. I no longer know him. Fuck You Too ratrodjon56.

  • Actually, the reusable bags I use are shaped exactly like plastic bags, but they hold so much weight! That is pretty remarkable. Plastic ones tear so easily. Blah. How many eggs and jars did I break with them? AND the reusables paid for themselves when the grocery story gave me 5 and 10 cent credits for each bag.

  • It's about doing what each of us can do and no matter how little.

Using reusable bags is an easy life style choice that only benefits yourself and the planet you live on.

  • You mean like HUMANS, good idea, will you be the first to volunteer?

  • I didn't realize humans are an endangered species. Thanks for the update!

  • hahaha

  • my friend has this bag made of kool-aid packets, its pretty aweomse

  • my mom always keeps re-usable bags in the car

  • my mom always keeps re-usable bags in the car

  • I wil always use plastic bags just to make the left wing go crazy. It is a choice not a law. Looks like I will have to stock up with plastic bags. STOP GLOBAL WHINING.

  • I have a bag that I use every day. Very eco-friendly, that is.

  • wouldnt u need like 10 of those to take ur groceries home in????

  • If we don't use plastic bags, then how do we put garbage out on the curb?

  • In a can? :)

  • you can also grow your own food, to combat crop-rotation erosion...live in a self-made hole-in-the-ground, to save our forests...and kill yourself, to avoid the negative effects of old age

  • Hell I'm a Liberals and i ain't giving up my plastic bags. i use it as a garbage its saves me money every time i shop!!

  • Liberals are absolutely insane. What a load of crap this video is. According to liberals, we should be afraid of everyting because everything has a .00057% chance of killing us and the environment. Hells bells, just live life, everything will be ok. Then, vote all liberals out of office because they are mandating stupid ass policies like this.

  • Seems the fake Conservatives have dug us a pretty big hole both economically and environmentally the last 8 years. Real conservatives are conservationists. Go chase your liberal boogie man somewhere else.

  • Glad someone else thinks conservative values = conservation.

  • This is absolutely mind-boggling how so many of you people do not do research at all and just comply to whatever a voice tells you to be a fact.

Plastic bags do not kill thousands of animals, and only consume 0.03 percent of the United States intake on oil. Numerous animals dying from plastic bags have been proven FALSE.

If we result to paper bags, we will consume more energy, kill more trees, and produce carbon emissions that go into the atmosphere by decomposing.

  • Proven false by whom?

  • (reply to altcon)

Scientists are marine experts proved it false. Scientists researched the bold statements that were made of plastic bags killing thousands of marine life and seagulls, and have been founded as being false reports.

In 1987 a Canadian study showed that 100,000 marine animals were killed from discarded nets

The Australian government comissioned a report into the effects of plastic bags, and misquoted the 1987 study by attributing the deaths to plastic bags.

    Ugh.

  • (reply to altcon for correction)

    scientists and marine experts*

  • maybe we should stop killing ourselves and then change the planet

  • BS. It's a subproduct. No one is mining oil to produce plastic bags.

Just another way to get more money.

  • kep it in your car if you use one!

  • If the bags are made from oil, maybe someone can come up with a way to convert all these plastic bags into a fuel source. Has anyone tried?

  • hmm. your right...dont tell this to anyone and build a company on your own and make lots of money....bevs oil

  • lol lol It does sound enterprising, but I that will have to be a task for someone a lot more resourceful. Maybe you? RafaHatesU Energy Supply. With all the fighting going on over oil these days, you have to admit, the name is really a good one. [wink] xx

  • money!!!!!!money!!!!!!

  • I get a free low quality bag at the grocery store. It breaks down faster than the fancy "Tough Bag" I have to pay for.

PAY FOR. Like with my money.

Then the tough bag sit's there not doing what nature does. So when I get the free plastic bag I save money while reusing it.

Since plastic bags are made of the same oil we make gasoline out of, I hope to exhaust all our oil so we will not be so dependent upon it & will be forced to seek new sources of energy. Then the Earth can start recovering

  • Plastic bags will take hundreds if not thousands of years longer to break down than all natural hemp or cotton bags. No one really knows because every plastic bag that has ever been created is still around and nowhere near broken down.

Reusable bags hold a lot more, are easier to carry, and stores give you 5-10 cents per bag you use.

  • recycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i see the help in these.

but there way to inconveinent for shoppers

who buy alot and have to buy like $4 bags

where they can get free ones.

i mean it would be good for little eronds

    but not for big ones.

  • true

  • you can use baskets too

  • Shopping bags are good for getting rid of bodies.

  • what a pussy bag

  • ya but what about when the purse is filled to the brim do you bring like 8 of them.

  • You Eco Wack jobs are the ones who told us to switch to plastic 20 years ago in order to save the trees and now you complain? Eco Friendly, my ass, what nonsense! What will you tell us to be using in another 20 years?

  • double plastic, it paper please.

  • See, I'm gay and if I used those bags I would get my ass kicked... so, no thanks.

  • Why not just reuse the plastic bags you get at the store? Take them back with you and use them on your next trip.

One of these funky little bags would not hold my weekly grocery shopping.

  • Next shopping spree miss? Not with the economy looking the way it is

  • i shop for stuff and recycle. im glad u like my vidz too

  • I'm a cashier and those new fabric bags are a pain in the ass to fill with groceries. Call it ignorant, but I prefer the plastic. It's easier. ;P

  • yeah they really are a pain. The trick is, don't worry about structure or support, just throw the items in. The bags will be harder to carry, and they will spill all over in the car, but it's still not worth the extra time and patience it takes to correctly fill them.

  • i nva thout ov dat, i shall change my way ov grocery shopping

  • go to school

  • Good Job!

I completely agree with this :)

I have quite a few myself

  • so uhh...what the hell are MEN suppose to use?

  • There are plenty of basic black or dark green square bottom bags that hold a lot of stuff available.

  • Why not?

What's the difference between that and a plastic besides the material?

    It's not like it's a purse!

  • When I was in Europe (Germany & Italy) men took natural colored beige bags to buy bottles of beer and returned the empties in the same bag next visit. They all did it naturally so maybe it is whats popular that makes it acceptable.

  • @altcon reusable shopping bags contain poisonous chemicals that have been proven by the UCLA Faculty of Environmental Science these chemicals if do come in contain with animals can prove fatal. so what exactly are mn supposed to use.

  • Just use a pillow case.

  • Man, demtards can't even propose business regulation correctly. The voters on the left cry about the economy, but the democratic majority in Congress hasn't thought slightly about imposing tarrifs on imports. You know, since Clinton signed NAFTA and all. Instead, these "puritans" want to legislate a market for something that might ? sell. I had one of these stupid bags last week and only because it was cute. Some drugged out transient with more rights than I do thieved it from me. Trend over!

  • yeah. but around here if you go a round a store filling your bag up with stuff. people think you're stealing. They have to get this message out more, and get companies participating so that that's not a problem anymore

  • All those bags are for women. They need to make manly bags with something other than flowers on them. Possibly an AK-47 or a hot chick in a bikini... Or a hot chick in a bikini shooting an AK... Yeah...

  • Yes..

    -Poppin Chee

  • a very good idea indeed. it should be at low cost for many to demand.

  • We use our plastic bags that we take home as mini garbage bags.

  • what about guys r we suppose to carry purses. also y not just get paper not plastic

  • fuck the earth!!, i'm moving to planet Primus next week :P

    HA HA EARTHLINGS!!!

the reality is, you can't run anywhere.....so why self-destruct?

    doesn't make sense to me

  • PLASTIC IS ECO-FRIENDLY.

You melt it down, and re-use it.

Who cares if it doesn't bio-degrade. We can re-use it basically forever.

  • shoplift. You'll never need to waste a bag again.

  • i use plastic bags. i prefer to double them. so my shit doesnt spill out all over THE FUCKING STREET!

  • Earth is not reusable

  • Americans aren't aware of the fact that they are left behind other developed countries in the environment issues.

  • plastic bags are better cause you can crunch them up and stick them in your back pocket and then use them to steal when you enter department stores... this way you dont walk in with a bag, so security wont be watching you. these eco friendly bags are also good for shoplifting though ,because they wouldnt make the rustling noise that plastic bags make. that rustling noise is a sure fire way to alert security that you are in the process of stealing their items.

  • I'm not a hippie or a tree hugger, but I use the reuseable bags when I shop. They can be a pain because you always forget to bring them in with you and have to go back out to the car to get them, but I hate plastic bags. Cashiers always put like two things in each bag and start another bag and you walk out with 12 bags when you really only needed 3.

  • Damn,Now I gotta buy 50 hand bags to hold my groceries!

  • ya know what...I don't know why i never did this earlier...I think I'll keep a bag in my car and re-use it when i go food shopping.

  • Plastic bags can actually be recycled

  • It really seems that some advertising is desperately needed to make people aware of alternatives. In countries of highly evolved economics there is imho everywhere a tendency to waste resources. But unfortunately external costs created by pollution like this are not reflected in the market prices. Therefore people must rethink their actions to protect environment, this cannot go on forever and that should now be evident for everyone.

A small thing like using paper bag can have a great impact.

  • why don't stand the fuck up and do something about it?

  • over 1000 to biodegrade... i agree... i have the same concern.

  • I do have a question though...How long does for a fabric bag or purse take to biodegrade?

  • Thats the point, you're not going to throw away a purse, you're going to reuse it...

  • This is very useful.

    Who Is Jane Hunter?

  • is that judy jones in the background lol

  • i love the idea.... but is it just me or do all the eco-friendly, re-usable bags look like there just for women? i mean I'm all for the earth but i don't want to be seen walking around with a orange bag with a pink flower on it.

  • Those bags were small to go grocery shopping. I have two HUGE reuseable bags from IKEA that I use all the time. They work great.

  • Americans have big heads and small minds, they are stubborn and set in their ways so they will never use alternatives

  • europians are bossy asshole and suck at evrything.

  • You sound like an American.

  • mmmmm plastic bags :D

  • yah but if you ever go to a food store, you can recycle your plastic bag. alot people do it.

  • how about our recycling council wanting us to bag our items in plastic bags

  • than you for the advice!

im gonna tell this to all my friends!

  • If you look at the same study from 2002 that identifies 1,000s of animals dying every year do to plastic. It never mentions plastic bags. It says plastic fishing gear. Also what happened to the tree huggers telling me to only use plastic in the 80's because paper bags were killing all the trees?

  • it's not like paper grows on trees you know ;)

  • yeahhhh thats the point. reusable bags are really the only way to be environmentally friendly. You can't just look at one study done (obviously focused on fishing gear) and come to the conclusion that plastic bags don't harm wildlife.

  • Well the hippies telling you to switch to plastic bags were only partially right, lol. Using plastic bags does cut down on the amount of trees cut down for pulp. The bags described in this video are REUSABLE wich means, after the initial resources used to create the bag, whatever materials they may be, they are NOT thrown into landfills. Reusble bags are easy on the trees, and on the environment.

  • All of those shopping bags were for wimen; nothing suitable for men!

Rate this comment for agreement or disagreement!

  • I rated it up, it is after all true of this video. However, (though I don't shop there often,) Walmart has a very plain dark colored reusable bag that is a good option for men. (In my opinion.)

  • use a tool bag or sumthin for a man

  • Yeah man what are we men supposed to do? Or do we just have women for shopping? :P

  • why don't you do one yourself? or ask somebody to do one for you if sewing is not your thing...or just resuse the same plastic bag again and again so you don't have to get more, I allways have one with me!

  • I'm only 20 and I get sick when people are so set in there ways and don't want to admit what we are doing to our planet. I will have no respect for my elders and the shit of a planet they left me to raise my children in. We need a change and any little bit helps. Buy reusable bags!

  • What a hypocritical and arrogant view. You don't like people set in their ways, yet you yourself are set in your way of any change is better than no change. Plastic bags are reusable too and they're free.

  • In response to BruthaTim:

Most people don't carry plastic bags around, but you are correct - they are FREE.

I recently started taking all of my plastic bags back to any store that supports recycling.

I stopped tossing out my garbage in plastic bags.

In fact, those garbage bags that people PAY for do not help the environment when they wind up in a landfill.

At the market, I always ask for paper bags.

  • You have a point somewhat. The green movement has turned into consumerism in a lot of areas. However, in many others it has used the market mechanisms to offer green alternatives. This video is eplicity comparing plastic bags to natural fibers of silk or cotton, which, yes have to use resources to grow, but biodegrade in a vastly shorter time. What people really need to do is look at their lives and see where they can consume less.

  • What do you even KNOW about global warming? I'm a synoptic meteorology student and I'm telling you there is no reason to sit there and say uninformed garbage like that.

  • I use plastic grocery bags all throughout my house as garbage liners. If I didn't use them I'd end up buying more plastic bags anyway. If it weren't for that though I'd be up for using canvas/cotton shopping bags.

  • i think many ppl won't use these bags because they feel embarrassed in front of the public

  • Oh jeez. I feel embarrassed when I *forget* mine. It's time for a change in mentality.

  • We have about 6-7 bags and they are great, got them from M&S, Tesco and Sainsbury's and brought them over to the states:) Everyone should get some!

  • you would look stupid walking out of your house with 20 bright colored empty bags tho wouldent you. good idea tho

  • get the cheaper kind and keep them in your car so you'll have them. You just leave them in the bottom of the basket while your shopping. I wish the grocery stores actually offered some reusable bags though.

  • Showing that you're aware and concerned doesn't look stupid to me.

  • Sustainable, but not yet because you are cutting too many down.

  • make bags good dont lie ldpe is boxes and computer screens bags made from hdpe

  • I reuse the plastic bags to clean the litter box, and bag trash, is this still recycling? Also I do accumulate too many of these bags every now and again, and in this instance wouldn't mind using a tote bag until I have reused all the plastic bags.

  • Tim Minchin's "Canvas Bags" makes the same point, but with humor!

  • We still need plastic bags for packaging. Did people foret the protective role of packaging when it comes to contamination of certain food people need to manipulate between the store and the kitchen?

  • Plastic is useful for a few things. But packaging can be so excessive (and unhealthy), and often there are many alternatives.

  • It doesn't bug people..it bugs the Earth :)

  • Where did the plastic bags come from? Jupiter?

  • they should make those bags more man friendly

  • Market a eco-friendly bag for men. Call it "The Man Sack".

  • hahaha that was really boring

  • Why is it that every time theres a video about helping the planet most people only whine calling everyone whos cares about the Earth "Damn hippes." I mean all these little brats won't do the most cheap way to help the planet! Most cost only $1 or $2 dollars. There are even designer bags if your into high end shopping. I mean the bags are right by the check out of your local food store. About them being anti green...Think of the trees that get cut down for the paper bags. Some are even organic

  • i agree with dave. wtf y not just use paperbags or reuse the plastic bags lol. why go out of your way to by this pretty little bag so that u can reuse it, when u can just reuse the plastic bags

  • lolol!! @ idiotgo

what the hell are you saying? lol

"fighting for peace its like making sex for virginity" lolol idiot its sex for virgins ^.^

  • damn hippies

  • You DO know that this has absolutely no effect on anything in the real world, it's just an exercise to make people feel good, RIGHT?

  • I agree with you.

Think also about the so-called "eco-bags", people might start collecting them and buying more than what they need.

  • i dont get it, were do u get the eviorme4ntlyy frendly bags??????

  • It's all fine and good to wanna replace the plastic bags, but seriously it's just one bag, when I go shopping I use at least 15 plastic bags, and I'm sorry I don't wanna fork out for 15 of these reusable bags AND then have to lug them around with me, plus the "fashion" part of these bags is very girly directed... I wouldn't be caught dead with one of those examples xD. maybe if we start using like crates of some kind, that slide onto trolleys, and can easily be placed in car boots?

  • Why wait? YOU can start doing just that. Get yourself a trolly and some crates that will fit nicely in your car. Maybe you can start a trend.

As to having to "fork out" for reusable bags, lots of grocery stores (at least here in the US) sell basic reusable canvas bags for about $1-2 each; some places will even give them away (Kroger shoppers can get a free bag by submitting a design on the store's website!).

  • If you can't find cheap reusable bags, you could always reuse the plastic bags instead of throwing them away after you get home the first time. Just bring last trip's bags with you the next time you head to the store. Most bags will probably be good for 2 to 4 trips. Even if you just reuse each bag once, you'll have cut your consumption of plastic shopping bags in half!

  • my dad is 60 years old, he care one adidas bag black color and go office work and go shopping with his adidas bang.

but i use my pocket everytime i squezze

  • These bags are not "GREEN". Think of all the energy and materials that are destroyed in producing the fabric and ink/dye that goes into these bags. Why not just use the old fashioned paper bags? They disolve quickly in landfills. You are using up more materials in making or buying these fancy bags then you would be in using paper bags!

  • The key feature is "reusable". Many of the bags use organic or sustainable fibers and materials and water based dyes. Manufacturing paper bags uses almost as much fossil fuel energy as plastic bag manufacturing and you lay waste to millions of carbon eating trees.

  • i dont like plastic at all its toxic as fuck!

  • amazing but sad!

  • i have my own green bags there great you can get them at fortinos and A & P for only 99 cents since its EARTH DAY AYAYAYAYA

  • First comment?

    Plastic Bags RULE!

  • yay?

  • making your own bag makes you look like you're stealing it, retarded.

  • 4579 views no comment????????????save the world people please

  • good one

  • cool

  • nice.

marc jacobs designed some cool ones!

i have one in one of my videos!

  • lol

    ... reminds me of:

fighting for peace its like making sex for virginity

  • refusing plastic bag is just a good idea,but i don`t like taking bags when i going out,so i think i can`t

  • I was hoping this would be about something *not* re-introduced a decade ago. oh well.

  • The reason to why there are plastic bags on landfill sites is that we use plastic bags as trash bags, not that we use them as shopping bags. This video doesn't give any solutions to where we would get trash bags in the future (unless you want to use the ~20$ bags). IMO the development of bio degradable plastic-like materials (made from cellulose and lignin and such) is a better way of getting rid of plastic bags. The only problem is that those kind of materials aren't as durable as plastic atm.

  • there are in fact BIO plastic bags (so bio degradable) for trash...at least here in germany you can get them from bigger markts where you have more to choose from :)
