I hate bruins but the hit wasn't on purpose. He was just swinging on the breakout and Jones was in his way. He expected Jones to to a wider turn, but instead ended up crashing into him. He was trying to stop and dodge him but it was too late when they made contact. He meant to jump away from him, not into him. If Ryder was the one to fall people would have been pissed at Jones so it could have went either way. It's completely different from Romes hit since he meant to hit Hort and was way late.

Also forgot to mention that rule 48.1 mentions that the hit must be from the blindside in addition to head contact. So for those who would argue rule 48.1 applies this is clearly a head on collision, regardless if the primary point of contact is the head.
And to those who will think I am a spineless Boston fan, I am a fan of hockey first and foremost and I think that the NHL does need to clarify this issue in the offseason and continue to make it their primary concern to protect the players.

I %110 agree with what u said about this hit compared to aaron rome hit on horton. I hate bruins but the hit wasn't on purpose. He was just swinging on the breakout and Jones was in his way. He expected Jones to to a wider turn, but instead ended up crashing into him. He was trying to stop and dodge him but it was too late when they made contact. He meant to jump away from him, not into him. If Ryder was the one to fall people would have been pissed at Jones so it could have went either way. It's completely different from Romes hit since he meant to hit Hort and was way late.

If Ryder is not aware that Jones is there then I am not of human but alien parents. The NHL discipline is a joke, the reason that hits like this and Rome's hit happen is because 90% of the time their is no suspension. The league let's so many hits like this go unpunished that players are shocked to get a suspension.
The NHL needs to ban head hits completely, and start suspending players in September to send a message, the finals in June is not the time to change the rules.

Also forgot to mention that rule 48.1 mentions that the hit must be from the blindside in addition to head contact. So for those who would argue rule 48.1 applies this is clearly a head on collision, regardless if the primary point of contact is the head.
And to those who will think I am a spineless Boston fan, I am a fan of hockey first and foremost and I think that the NHL does need to clarify this issue in the offseason and continue to make it their primary concern to protect the players.

1) The primary point of contact is not Jones' head(primary point of contact was horton's head for all those out there complaining about loosing a 5th defensemen)

This is far worse than the Rome hit on Horton, and yet Ryder got nothing for this, WTF. Clearly the NHL only suspended Rome due to the severity of Hortons injuries, not the hit itself. Now I'm not saying Rome shouldn't have been suspended, what I am saying is that Rome shouldn't have recieved more than a 1 game suspension.
