  • I wonder if anyone else on the planet could play this song...

  • WONDERFUL talent

  • Hello Jon, If you get this message, cheers from Florida USA. I just found out about you and ...WOW. You are one of the most talented guitarists out there. Love your approach to "percussive guitar" and love the electronic / acoustics too. Thank you sooo much for sharing your incredible talents with us.:) Thumbs up all the way.

  • Holyshittitshardnipples!!!

  • ...just when I thought I was a good guitarist...

  • Some people have probably already written this quite a few times, but I couldn't help noticing that you definitely like Preston Reed's music). Especially his track called Rainmaker.

I thought after Preston's effort there's simply no way for this style to advance any further. You instantly proved me wrong. Amazing work.

  • You give the rest of us no hope. Haha keep em coming man!

  • @antiglobalist - its Urdu

  • @londonpaddy28 Thanks, any idea why he knows such a language?

  • Am I the only one wondering which language he's singing in that second part?

  • Comment removed

  • But where did you learn to play like that?

  • its jesus i know it

  • Is this a song you wrote or a cover?

  • Me and my dad met him a couple of years ago. My dad asked him if he was gay, to which he replied "I'm not but I saw the police a couple of years back and Sting is one hot piece of ass"

  • a real pro, you should hit up leeds sometime soon, rather than in like a million years time :D

  • dude please tell me youre playing tommyfest?? saw you at black vegas last night, i wanna quit guitar now :P

  • @SigurRosForever Yep! Friday night, onstage 7pm. Acoustic tent I think. Was a bit of a last minute thing!

  • I saw you in Upton, You was the only band there that I thought was super awesome and amazing!!! XD

I wished you had played more songs though :(

  • Met this guy today at Leeds College of Music - the guy was a legend!

and not to mention a fucking blinding good player!

  • Breathtaking. Full of originality, great way of making new sounds from the guitar. I hope you go far.

  • saw him last night...he played this song epically!

  • Great song...what kind of guitar is this?

  • jon man this song is epic. its one of those ones that just sends those feelings through your body that you just cant explain. i haven't found anything else to give me that feeling since i discovered jeff buckley. i definately rate you up there with the greats like that and i have absolutely no doubt that you are going to become very famous for your music. was a true pleasure to see you play live and am looking forward to doing so again :)

  • its good feelings....unlike fricking showbiz by muse....sends me sooo depressed and gives me emptiness in my stomach and shakes in my body....jon gomm ftw

  • sorry i know that was irrelevent bringing up muse but just an example

  • @Caidenjohnsonmusic hey bud i think u may have replied to me by mistake! dont remember saying anything to you about muse...

  • yer i know lols....i was just watching muse before this vid....so if i confused you lols

  • me gusta su musica se me hace inovadora como sotisficada y un estilo muy parecido a michael hedges

  • Muchísimas gracias, Cuvbe1! Me encanta Hedges.

  • @jongomm Ah, que además hablas español! Eres MUY BUENO! Te admiro ;)

  • he came to my school and played for us hes a grate musician

  • ahh sames

ai did a workshop wiv him XD

  • how the christ do you sing while playing that!

  • I have to say john this is one amazing song .. ive been listening to it the past few mounths almost daily a very good song to unwind to ^-^ ..very very enjoyable

    josh

  • he plays in my city often

  • lol, it will have been ECOFEST at Badger Farm. jon gomm was the best artist easily apart from the last day's 'Bodega' but the music styles are different. This guy is inspiration to anyone who 'Thinks they cant play an instrument without lessons'

  • someone commented on an andy mckee video and said this guy was better than him. Andy is a hundred times better. Gomms guitar part is fun to look at but nothing special melody wise.

  • thats because the melody is in the singing, andy doesnt have a singer so melody is in guitar

  • i love both :)

    no comparison.

  • I think it was ECOfest.

    Or Brewerfest.

  • Saw this last year at a festival in lincolnshire.

It was easily the best act there.

  • What festival ? I live in lincolnshire ^.^

  • niceee

  • Awesome :D I saw Jon on thursday in weston-super-mare, London Inn. Haha was nice to see something off the 1-4-5 trail for once, even though i did keep shouting at you to play some John Martyn at the end...instead we got a classic rock medley -_-' great night though!!!!

  • i gonna see this guy soon!

  • OMG

    Amazing

  • Haha i saw this guy at a shitty pub in leeds years ago, Carpe Diem.

Never herd of him before an when he started playing the whole pub stopped and watched...It was amazing!

    Legend!!!

  • Cheers Tommy! Playing soon at a pub near you...

  • Wow.

  • Great songs...i loved 'hey child' and 'butterfly hurricane'. Too bad you dont perform here in India..maybe if i'm in england sometime.

  • Great performance, everytime I see u play u jst blow my mind lol really amazin stuff, n great guitar workshop at Barnsley College, thanks for tht :) lol

Keep up the good work :D

  • Oh, yea, sorry, I guess we all forgot, we're not allowed to do anything new or different in music anymore without being called a "gimmick", the man's been playing since 2 years of age, he's no gimick, he plays the way he wants, the way he feels, his song writing is amazing, and you're a fool for not appreciating such a REAL musician. Go back to your corperate pop, and stop degrading real artists for taking music to the height of being art.

  • Actually, this isn't even new or different, Jon Gomm takes the style to a new level, but the style's been about for years, besides gimmicks generally take less effort to create in order to make cash or get attention quickly, learning to play like this can take years, and is harder than most other styles, as there are no real limits; so really, you fail at making any real valid point.

  • you are amazing!

    Beautiful song!

  • Man I love your stuff. I've seen you a few times in Huddersfield at Bar120 and in Halifax at Fagins, were both brilliant experiences. I really don't get the people slagging this stuff off, even though I think live you are far better than on any of the recorded versions of your songs I have seen (which is understandable, nerves being on TV and just the generally more comfortable atmostphere of many live gigs) I still think these kick the tits off most singer-songwriters. Any gigs in Manchester?

  • May 10th at Kro Bar, with some great special guests - be there or be square!!

  • Amazing! Your hands are like a blur! So talented xxx

  • Wow, thomas leeb >> > > >

any chance of seeing Leeb and Gomm on the same bill?

  • Hey Man,

brilliant as usual - played Windsor last night and they all had great things to say about you as well.

Looking forward to your NEW ONE!!!

  • Looking forward to Turracher Höhe!! Maybe you can teach me how to ski. I have all the coordination of a baby deer.

  • Very nice man, this piece is a nice blend of Preston's over the the top of the neck playing (first section is very similar to Rainmaker) and Hedges' right hand bass hammerons with a left hand ostinato.

To be able to sing while doing that is just mind blowing.

  • Great! I saw Jon live in Sheffield once, it was amazing!

  • A fantastic performance. Loads of players are influenced by Hedges - but not in a million years could this be called a rip-off!!!!

  • I wish more players were influenced by Hedges, but a lot of new players come to the techniques second-hand via someone else who *was* influenced by Hedges. Michael Hedges didn't just reinvent the guitar, he was a superb composer of melody and harmony.

  • word, it's great to discover artists like you or tommy leeb, thanks for sharing :o)

  • My fuckign hero!

  • Amazing, just amazing^^. Never seen someone playing guitar and singing at the same time like this. This is so awsome, that I watch this video almost every day. I especially like Waterfall, cause I love this music style.

    greetings from Germany :)

  • this isnt a good performance

  • To be fair I was bricking it.

  • Hey John you wont know me. ive seen u in person at the brudenell but u werent playing. love your style m8 r u planning on playing at the brudenell anytime soon

  • Hello. Yes I'm actualy playing at the Brudenell on April 26th. Not exacty "soon", but the best I can manage! Cheers for the comment.

  • kw. thanx Jon hopefuly me and some friends will be in attendance cos its my birthday on the 21st of april.

  • Just went to see Jon Gomm live tonight at gasworks and may I say it was bloody fantastic! If you read this I was the guy sat with the bloke who shouted "fucking hostile" near the end hahah

But yeah really impressed already shown the videos to a few mates =]

Keep it up and come back to gasworks soon!

  • Not the best performance....also, cheesey melody, lyrics. Played a gig with him in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago.....was better then.

  • gomms self involved.

He played at Carpe Diem leeds months ago.

Took constructive criticism completly the wrong way

  • I saw Jon play in York once - absolutely fantastic live performance. I can't understand how someone can say that his playing is a boring copy of other, more famous players. It's because of Jon Gomm that I began getting interested in fingerstyle / percussive acoustic playing. So does that mean that when I play a song that I wrote in a similar style, that I'm just a poor rip-off of Jon's style?

  • isnt john from leed, maybe wrong, john = ace

  • I returned to your video to see what other youtube viewers had comented about my comment but was surprised that you had removed it! In a way the comments are like a forum. If you only want people to look at your video and not to tell you what they think you can disable the comment option...

  • Does it show more ego to delete your comment or to defend myself against it?

Why return to this page if you did not like the video? To check if I had deleted your comment, so you could complain about that?

FYI: Hedges was my hero. I deleted your comment because you accused me of ripping him off; I didn't know deleting was frowned upon, sorry.

I think it's musically interesting: few melodies use Indian Pentatonic", and not many songs modulate to the IIminor for the chorus. But hey, I wrote it!

  • second attempt to post this message, previously was removed.... This is a boring copy of Michael Hedges and Justin King's style of playing, its just the same tapping trick over and over . musically nothing interesting but probably technically impressive to some people who haven't heard of the previous guitar players before. The singing could benefit very much from some intonation practicing as it goes out of tune way to often

  • Why did you remove my critical comment? are you only looking for compliments? shame on you! what an ego

  • in my defence, the kitten was really ugly

  • lmao danspoon ....lol in all seriousness tho u ppl are lucky to have an artist like this in uk i wish he was over rated and really famous cuz i'm canadian and i will prolly never see the genius that is jon gomm live and I would really love to

  • P.S. Jon Gomm rules. Don't make the mistake of thinking he's another tappy guitarist - he can do anything with that guitar, stuff other tapping players would never try. And he plays from the heart and writes great tunes. With melodies you can sing!

  • "he can do anyhting with a guitar" - This is very true, I once saw him kill a kitten with it.

  • fenderman21 - overrated by whom? He's not exactly famous. And I can assure you he has no ego whatsoever.

    Whereas you clearly do.

If you don't like it, say so, that's fine, but there's no need for your insults. And they're not true anyway!

  • quite possible the most overrated performer i know of. give up the guitar lessons and spend the money on signing lessons and an ego reduction

  • What, exactly, from this performance did you construe that he requires an "ego" reduction?

I agree with the giving up of guitar lessons tho, if he's taking them, he probably doesn't need them, and I don't think he needs sign language as it would be too difficult to do sign language and playing guitar at the same time.

I thought that was marvelous - always great to see people extending the possibilities of the guitar.

  • Great to see you on TV shows now Mr Gomm! Great work as usual :-) See you soon

  • on,

WOW, outstanding! Your percussive technique, muting, tappings, slapping harmonics and contrapuntals are flawless! Awesome voice and song too! Like your Michael Hedges Oracle tatoo also. Thanks for sharing.

    God bless,

    - Robert

  • That was awesome!!! :D
