The answer is that it is a poorly written story, probably passed along to CHILDREN (much like the story of Santa Claus) who took it on "faith" that the adult was telling them a true story...
Basically, if you have anything close to a logical, analytical mind, reading this book will convince you it is a crappy old story written by people with a lot of time on their hands and not much knowledge.
Well said! I have had problems with that from the moment I read it! I have videos on this subject too...it's amazing the acrobatic apologetics that come from this....it all points to the problem with evil. Bravo!
Adam and Eve aren't said to be like children, they were cloaked in God's glory and the world they lived in was 'good' but they were still adults. 2. God gave them the power of choice, something we still have today. It seems God would rather us have choice, and slip up occassionally, then to have us either as puppets or not at all. 3. In his mercy he created a bridge back to him - the choice of Jesus. I see your point but how can a human comprehend the mind of the creator of the Universe?
He knew Adam and Eve where going to failed, and that is what he wanted because he had bigger plan. His plan was to bring up Jesus and he died for our sin because we are all sinners and God save the humankind again like a hero you know the rest bla, bla, bla.
hy princess the meaning of life we dont really now

Probably because all the shit that goes on today is actually interesting anyway. If you could watch all the wars and drama and listen in on all the conversations and see what all your creations would learn and do, you'd be pretty entertained. I mean,God would have to be the ultimate channel surfer.
there is free will, you can't say that there is and still say that the one god knows the future, he let us to paint the future ourselfs, in this matter - he dosen't come between us.
Hey friend, I would suggest that you read "Reading the Bible Again for the First Time" by Marcus Borg. It will answer alot of your questions about why Genesis was written the way it was.
Alright so my IDEA about the answer to your question... and maybe you've already heard it, but I'm too lame to go look through the other comments in excruciating detail... My idea:
Yes, God knew that was going to happen... and he set them up for a reason... because he WANTED to get us into the position someday where our beliefs would be severely opposed and questioned and terrible things could happen if you acknowledged them.
He wants to see if, even with the challange, his people will still call him the creator, still believe that he is the one who loves them. Maybe, of course, the whole bible is a set up for us, and he isn't quite like that at all, all that he says, but to make us question everything and...
Alright wow. I'm confusing myself and talking too much, but maybe you get my drift? I'll rant about it somewhere and maybe you'll hear my opinion later xD
when you say to children do nt do thid and warn them only with words they will not listen so this story is a warning and a beg to listen .
also the story of the child that does nt know death exists and thinks life is beautiful food is given free until it realizes some day i will die and cannot escape.
If Adam and Eve committed the original sin, then how could they have been "pure?" Free will = choice, temptation = sin. Why did Adam and Eve decide to sin? Because they were ignorant of the consequences? Because they didn't have an intrinsic sense of morality?
How could Adam and Eve have been perfect if they chose to disregard God's word? I say that humans have always been imperfect...
Now, if we were to get into the metaphorical implications of Genesis, that would be a whole other topic.
If one main part of this is forgiveness as Annie says. Then it's a very good first seed to plant with his budding creation. God has such a oneness with us now. He is #1, so he is testing himself, of course he wants to stay fresh, in growth and relationship. We all want to grow into what we trully are and need reflection for this, to renew like the fresh vegitation each spring giving us fresh new oxygen each year. A seemingly endless renewing garden.
But, then he became one of us, flesh was torn away with a crack breaking the sound barrier. God is all knowing, but you have to be a human to feel tears, he knew this. When he walked amoung us he had to endure so much more than not eating one fruit. We are one, so what he did unto us he did to him self. sound familar?
I agree with Robinsweet...sorry, I like this discussion. See, now you had to go and do a video on religion...a topic I LOVE to discuss. God created all of us as individuals and loves us for our unique qualities. In that respect, we are going to each understand God and the Bible differently. He speaks to a person in his/her own unique way of understanding things. He doesn't teach all of us the same way because everyone learns differently.
As far as God not wanting us to be robots, I agree. When we do something good for someone else, God wants us to choose to do it...to want to do it. And, for us to want to do good or bad things, we have to be imperfect and have the free will to choose either one. OK, that's all I have to say...for now, LOL.
A. Humans didnt have free will , until after they ate of the fruit of good and evil .
B. God is perfect , you (we) are not , therefore we will never "understand" his actions .
C. Do you think God wants robots ? No , he wants us to chose to love Him ... that was the whole point of that .This had to happen for us to have a free will. He doesnt want humans to be robots and be programed to love and worship Him blindly ....
Ok , free will is free will when you know what you are doing , when you know good and bad .
God , didnt set them up . He was shaping their identities , like i said God doesnt want Robots and be like like little computers programed to do his bidding . He wants us to chose to love HIm and follow , that the only way true love can exist .
They were set up to fail so they, and WE, would know what forgiveness feels like. When you are forgiven by a loved one, how does it make you feel? When I'm forgiven, it makes me feel good to know that person loves/cares about me enough to not hold onto whatever I did wrong. And, that way, we would learn how to forgive others becuase we know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of it. I hope this helps and makes sense, hon.
@hjstuckey u have to be familiar with torah to understand ... but basically it was eve that was tricked into eaiting of the tree.. basically they had no knowledge of what was good or what was bad .. God would supply them with everything they needed food water etc. ... prohibitng to eat of the tree like the bible says was a way to test their love for God ....
A. If we didnt have freewill before eating the fruit of good and evil. when what is it that you call the actions that you told to eat the fruit? so, one might said that Adam and eve got tricked into eating the fruit NOT freewill. BUT, if they didn't have a 'freewill,' it won't matter if they got tricked or not. they simply won't do what they were told not to do.
so, in part B. you stated that "God is perfect , you (we) are not , therefore we will never "understand" his actions." so, let me ask you this "How would you know that he wants us to chose to love him if (you) don't "understand" his actions?" Furthermore, you stated that "He doesn't want humans to be robots and be programed to love and worship Him blindly" well, same question applied here. How can you claim to know what he wants.
who said man failed? who where we created in the image of? The idea of God being bored, I like because it does say in the Bible that God makes all things new. One more question, what about the omnipresents of God being everywhere? Do you think God is a physical being or something else? What else is everywhere?
To me the Bible is basically history, Aesop's fables, and a healthy dash of mysticism all thrown together. I understand the authors of the Bible lived in a different time and held different values and beliefs so I don't think the Bible is bad per se. However, I think that it has way too much power as a symbol of magical forces. I dislike that people are afraid not to totally believe the Bible because some all-powerful being will hurt them in some way (i.e. hell).
Because the Bible was heavily edited and altered to give man the upper hand so that women are to blame resulting in original sin which was used to control the population "if you dont follow this you are doomed to hell" thats why.
I've felt similar to you that we're just God's pets that were created to give God some diversion. As his pets he is interested in seeing what we do in certain situations.
These questions you're wondering about have been argued over for thousands of years.
Enjoy your Vlogs they're better than anything on reality TV.
This was supposed to be first, and either way I guess it's confusing. Maybe the missing piece is that we *do* mess with electricity. And nobody taught us how to use it, we had to zap ourselves learning about it.
I don't believe in God for just that reason. because for someone who is all knowing and created us, supposedly, he sure seems not to understand us. If he did exist, and this whole creation myth were true, then I think we're better off out of Eden. Curiosity and knowledge are good things.
We'll I personally believe that it has alot to do with Satan and his angle that were first cast outta Heaven and into the bowles of the Earth, & yet Earth and mankind were forced to deal with this stuff , in order to thus create a new Heaven & a new Earth , for your eternal life to come upon his son Jesus Christs life, death,& return to Earth to thus save those whom accept him into there hearts .
Answer: The genesis myth is the most generic creation myth ever produced and is intentionally ambiguous. The issue seems to be that people have taken this literally. What takes man apart from an existence of leisure, provided by the land? In other words, what elevates man above the animals? Knowledge. For good or for evil, knowledge. The reward of knowledge is potential for godlike power. The cost is suffering. But, as Socrates said, the unexamined life is not worth living.
Ah, if we were put on this earth by a supreme being (God or whatever you want to call it), we are certainly an experiment that has gone out control of its own creator. Our creator saw the mess he/she created and now we are a loose experiment with no guidance except for pretenders that call themselves "priests".
but in the bible God said everything was perfect. not everything is out of control, there is a lot of beauty in the hearts of humans. God is everywhere. Humans seek to divide. If we were truely in the spirit of God, we would be inclusive not exclusive.
Maybe this is the lesson that humanity has to learn to move on. It could be said that humanity moved from kids to teen-agers. :)
In the end it is a test of our human nature and spirit. I hope that in the end respect for each of us as unique individuals win and we learn to love all of us and all of our uniqueness.
the holy spirit also known as Shekinah Glory is a keeping power. You are right. God is all knowing. He gave us the authority to choose right from wrong. So whatever we do in this life is all up to us.
well it's a story that will never make much sense when scrutinized because it was written to teach people that sex and knowledge are sinful & wrong in order to give the church more control over them and to help enforce a male dominant society, i.e. it was all Eve's fault that Adam ate the fruit
Xians believe to be a good person you have to have faith in Jesus and believe in a God who will forgive anything. It just doesn't make any sense, thats why I'm an atheist. Oh there is one thing God won't forgive, denying the Holy Spirit. So Xians don't ever DENY THE HOLY SPIRIT!
First of all, I love your hair.Look at Acts2 and it will give you insight on the holy ghost( holy spirit) The holy spirit is the awesome presence of God dwelling in the midst of his people.
so to fill god around you is it have the holy spirit? but if god is every where thos is the holy spirit. and if so why cant i fill it. is it just for the devout? but that cant be either because god love all.
I think that everytime you feel love and compassion for someone, you are feeling God's Spirit. That's what I think, anyway. And, as far as devout goes, I think what really counts is whether or not you show compassion to people and do something to show it. I've seen you have compassion when you address peopel in your vlogs who are struggling with the same things you have.
LOL, ok, I hope that made sense, since I used certain words about three times. My headache meds are making me very tired and you know how you feel when you get too tired...you feel STONED!!!
amen. that is because it flows through everyone and in everything. As we get to know each other, we know God and our connection grows stronger that is why some are more compassionate then others.
Well, in Christianity, God is actually made up of three entities; the father, the son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit/Ghost. This is called the Holy Trinity. The belief is that God is one being made up of three separate beings.
My belief in God has changed somewhat since childhood. If there is a God I do not believe he/she is the be all & end all of existence. If God exists I see him/her as more of a scientist who basically created life just to see what would happen.
Great video Arianna, with a wonderful question which I'm sure is going to encourage a great amount of debate.

So please clarify that part to me.

I've seen you have compassion when you address peopel in your vlogs who are struggling with the same things you have.

amen. that is because it flows through everyone and in everything.

I believe that certain sects do not put too much stock in the Holy Trinity...

God is loving us, but the devil is all mighty, and all knowing, and God has to submit to the devil. (And I am an unbeliever.)
