1.They do help you, nobody ones a cheerleader who doesn't SMILE.

2.You have to keep your arms NICE and STRONG so that you don't look wear.

3.You need to be LOUD, so people can hear you that is part of being a cheerleader If not they won't be able to hear you.And in a peporally people get loud.

@gussygirl1 it would help if you visit gymnasiums that have tumbling classes and a cheer squad. i would go to one like a year before you tryout, just so you no that you have everything. if you go to an open gym, usually they help you with stunting, jumps, tumbling and the stretching. but they dont help with yelling thou.>_<

Im a cheerleader myself and cheerleading is a sport just like football :D and how is it like football, it's when you have to catch the ball in order to get a score or a touchdown and for difference you have to catch your flyer at the right time by counting and cheerleaders work hard by doing the same as footballers. It's mix of dance and acrobatics for me - the entertainment, the rush, artistry, much like watching gymnasts, acrobats, a dance company. It's physically demanding, mixed with beauty. There's lots of sports like that,all with world recognition, so why are cheerleaders treated differently?

@hakirby Good point but you never told me the goal of cheerleading. What exactly are the cheerleaders trying to achieve. A swimmer in the water has artistry and timing. Her swim team all has wonderful skill and are physically in shape. I can keep taking extracts from your paragraph, but most importantly the swim team has the goal of being the fastest swimmers possible and get the highest times in order to win their meets. Meanwhile cheerleaders really don't have a goal.
