All of the Love from All of the Various Sis. Janet Mead 'Lord's Prayer ' built up inside me and Caused me Great Creativity from the Lord and I want to share with All. It is on my FightFeces area. I am sorry if that offends but... that is a polite way of saying "darn it America ain't what it used to be" .....
The Radio version was Slightly different:: The Our father was recited once quickly in a Latin Monastic Gregorian chant, Then Sister Mead quickly recited the prayer in vernacular to herself . Then the song kicked in with the Dijjroo or whatever they call that aboringinal instrument. However I never though I would hear the Song Again. Thank you so much.
Dear wattever333. Electric violins? in 1973? They were actually about 2 years ahead of the time (well at least here in Australia where Sister Janet comes from). So as for sounding like 1968? More ahead of its time than after, Robby. BRISBANE
I got this 45 when it came out in 73. The great thing about this arrangement, (hard to hear on this mono channel) it was very early disco influence with the strings and pop beat. I don't remember if Sister Janet was excommunicated or not-- this was very controversial when it came out, many Catholics (and Rome) considered it sacrilegious, but her desire in making the record was only to encourage the younger generation to remember to pray the Lord's Prayer. I certainly did, it was one of my faves.
Hi BrownDavidson..I love Tony Orlando, and Dawn!...Oh my gosh, those were the days...Pong! and inserting a quarter in the juke box to hear, "Run Joey Run" by David Geddes, "Sugar Baby Love" by the Rubetts, "Shannon" by Henry Gross, and who could ever forget the song, "Chevy Van"?
I don't have the 45 anymore, but I have a perfect memory of the song. however, thanks for posting it. and now, a request: would it be too much to ask that you also post the "B" side? I think it was, "Brother Sun and Sister Moon". I'd love to hear it again, too. thanks a million.
God bless you!!! I still have my original 45 also! I was a young teen... I was so hoping to find this and I've found so many videos of Sister Jean's rendition of the "Our Father". Truly awesome and than you for sharing this one! God bless 1 and all.
@lurch321 ATTENTION! Please disregard the above comment. Sister Janet is alive and well.......................I had a "brain cramp" and confused her with another one hit wonder, the Singing Nun (who had a top 10 hit called Dominique in '63). SHE is the one who committed suicide in '85..................my apologies to everyone.
Hm, my comment didn't post. I was saying, I sing this with the modern music group at church every week; been doing it for 25 years, but never knew where this song came from!
I never saw this on the standard brown A&M label (I bought this single twice, actually my mom had it first, and both times it was the while label with the giant brown A&M letters)
Sometimes it's according to where it was pressed. This label was used up until two or three years before the newer label came out. Some places that still had the old labels leftover and used them up and sometimes that lasted for a few years.
sister janet rocked the secular world with this song it was played all over the radio stations in the 70's that had to be Spirit lead God bless her obedience amazing tune, awsome beat, but the lyrics are HEAVEN SENT GLORYY!!!
I was just singing this to my 4 year old granddaughter and wanted to see if it was on youtube glad it was. I believe it was on the billboad chart for 14 weeks topping out at number 4 in 1974 correct me if I'm wrong. I agree she very well could have been the first of what we now know as Christian rock.

On this date in 1974 {Feb. 23rd} "The Lord's Prayer" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; evenually it peaked at #4 and spent 13 weeks in the Top 100...

What ever happened to Sister Janet Mead? She must be in her 50's by now bless her.

@BrownDavidson Sadly, she committed suicide in '85.

@lurch321 and in strange even eerie irony the singing nun who did 'domonique" also wound up committing suicide

This is a Canadian release (I'm from Canada), maybe the A&M labels were a different colour here, because I've seen countless brown A&M labels here.
BTW I'm AnalogueAudio1985, this (wilkes85) is just my main channel.
wilkes85 3 years ago
We got the brown ones here too, but all the times I found this 45 it had an alternate label.

A&M changed their label style when this record was current. I think my copy was the first A&M record I had with the new silver label.
