  • what is the song from 0:00 to 0:03

  • 2 Tone ska rules !!

  • Saw this song at T in the park a few years ago! absolute genius, may have had a little drunken spew during it but it rocked! also they were on stage about 2pm so perhaps i'd done too much?

  • Muito bom!

  • Went to a Ska concert a couple days ago... Fucking Skanked myself to the point of puking... I was in the back pissing and puking, haha, true story.

  • @TheThinkingGremlin i have the same story; i skanked too much with the specials song but not this one, and then i have puked:)

  • Check out that electric piano... shiiiiiii

  • top tune

  • im twelve i love skinhead (REAL SKINHEAD not fashist ) mods, sex pistols, the clash, the jam,doc martens, harringtons, donkey jackets,SKA!!,two tone.what my freinds think doesnt matter i know what i like thats all that counts!!

  • @bhablueandwhite YOUR NOT A SKINHEAD THEN REAL SKINHEADS STARTED AT STAMFORD BRIDGE AND IT WAS AGAINST IMMIGRATION THAT THE POLITICIONS WERE LETTING INTO THE COUNTRY AND GIVING THEM FLATS WHEN WHITE PEOPLE HAD BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR ONE BEING A SKINHEAD MENT THAT YOU WOULD FIGHT WITH BLACK GANGS AND STAND YOUR GROUND NOT LIKE THE WHITE WANKERS IN THIS GENERATION IT WAS YOU HIT ONE WHITE GUY YOU HIT ALL OF US WHITE UNITY THEN THE POLICE ARRESTED ANYONE WHITE WHO FOUGHT WITH BLACKS,NOSTALGIA SIGH.

  • @september7891 hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you dont kno skinhead history!

  • @tronscot i know skinhead history when jamaicans first came to england and they started working with white working class and brought their music with them and the white guys liked it and then jamaicans made a slower version of the music so the white guys could understand it better and they called it ska and then the specials and the selector and other music and then skinheads was born staypress and fred perry and doc martins or pepers boots i was there, then there was a breakaway into football.

  • @september7891 You are sort of there.... but it was the Ska movement in Jamaica in the 50's that spawned all of this. Ska existed long before any white folk got involved.

It was not until the 70's that Britain and 'white' people got involved.

  • @tronscot sorry my text before i was arguing with someone your a proper skinhead mate i hate nazis mate but i hate antifacists to because their not just antifacist they are far left and they don,t care when white people get attacked by muslims but when muslims get attacked by whites they scream outrage.

  • wow, Ska is one boring music style. Thumbs down.

  • why wouldnt they play this on the radio ?

  • @john3000931 I now only if they had the internet bac then

  • HOOTANANNI!!!!!!!!!

    BIG UP BRIXTON

  • Seen 3 x....80, 81, and 2009, still superb and relevant.

  • The specials songs were so fantastic and had a message.

  • This really ought to be played on the radios these days instead of the crap shitty sex me up music, then maybe there wouldn't be so many unplanned pregnancies, and those kids leading a miserable life because of kids having kids.

  • The Specials epitomised the very late 70's -very early 80's 2-tone "ska -rock" .Great little band.

  • @vashna3799 did the clash copy them or did they copy the clash?

  • @florencelovme they came after the clash , they didn't really copy them ,the clash were punk rock the specials ska-rock

  • @vashna3799 I know that the clash is punk, but they have a song that sounds just like this song thats why I asked. I guess punk and ska went together during that era. Funny thing is, Ive listened to that song countless times but didnt know what band it was until I bumped onto this clip! great discovery! can you suggest any other bands with that sound?

  • @florencelovme Of course -The Beat & The Selector are the 2 bands most like the Specials ,other bands of that period include The Jam ,Squeeze, Bad Manners ,Madness and the mighty Joy Division.

  • @vashna3799 thanks alot!

  • THIS IS NOW !!!

  • Oh My God This IS ON FIRE

  • this is attractive.

  • I wish I grew up in this era. I love everything about it. Clothes, music, movies, skinheads EVERYTHING but I stuck with shit like lmfao and auto tuned faggots

  • quite simply one of the most influential songs of an era,,if u weren't there,tough..u missed a fantastic time for music.

  • I have ten years,but i love this music

  • Tengo 10 años,y aun así amo esta música

  • love it

  • perfect

  • This is a classic. I'm a child of the 80's. They were brilliant, along with Madness.

  • Top stuff! released at the same time the country was on its knees.

    Needs re-releasing!

  • With more than 7,000,000,000 mouths need feeding today, this song is even more relevant today than when it was released in 1979. Take control of the population!

  • why dont people appriciate this stuff? Its brilliant.

  • This should be the theme tune to people the same age as me nowadays! 15 year olds gerrin preggers!

  • may be 15, but i know good music when i hear it, explains a lot about my generation now a days.

  • 69 people did way too much- much too young

  • I was in my teens when 2-tone and the Specials were in the charts - I really didn't like them.

What on earth was I thinking? They really are a cut above and a stupendously enjoyable experience!!

  • I love his statement - "It should have been our next single but they wouldn't play it on the Radio"- says everything about Thatcherite censorship at the time. This band says everything about the late 1970's and early 1980's recession and despair. - Everyone thought Thatcher and the Tories would make things better- in reality everything got worse.... sound familiar.. I think Shirley Bassey's singing History Repeating said it all. Politics over - enjoy The Specials.

  • Terry Christian is now a main man on promoting the music of Sun Ra Archestra. great stuff.

  • @xr3vengex lol fail

  • @justjoeist Yes, you are, sunshine.

  • @xr3vengex twat. is all i can say...

  • @xr3vengex

    what a cunt

  • @spyglasscouk amen. DIFFERENT ERA/GENRE BRO

  • @xr3vengex what is wrong with you? the specials literally influenced middle-of-the-road bands like Muse.. before you post comments like that, bone up on the history of punk, 2tone, ska, and whatever else.

  • @rosaleenauk well said mate

  • 68 people are much too young to appreciate this.

  • @catbells69 I'm glad I dont take part in that mental age group.

  • @catbells69 one love jah rastafari this music was the start of a new direction thats lasted ever since then

  • Comment removed

  • @catbells69 I'm fifteen. Am i lumped into the "too young" group? I really dont want to be. i love ska

  • @janspek33 I liked this when I was 15! ;O)

  • married to the kitchen well fuk that one

  • smosh !

  • This song (in fact this clip on the pld grey whistle test) really capured my imagination as a young teen and got me into the whole ska thing.

  • Fucking. Brilliant.

  • Why talk over the end?...why?

  • HEY !!! WATCH JELLY PLANE on YOUTUBE !!!

  • still brill!

  • "they" (the broadcasters) played it because it was hit, number 1 single, but "they" didn't like it, it was a very long time ago, a very different country and in many ways, though not all, a more fun place to live.

  • Yes it was played everywhere - int thee obvious???!!! But they wouldn'r air it at the start on the Radio due to it's political connotations. Not so tosh now eh with that info.

  • epic random dancing niggers! :D

  • @QueenWillNeverDie Ok you got a response - now what?

  • @bongo46 I'm sorry, I don't know what happend. I didn't mean to post my comment multiple times.

  • epic random niggers!

  • Epic random dancing niggers!

  • Epic random dancing niggers!

  • What does he look /sound like now? Fucking awesome tune when there was no black/white divide with music

  • @pinkandjefflynne Terry Hall the lead singer still has the voice - he does some live work now about Europe - the Jamaican rude boy with the trilby - Neville staples is till going strong and still has 100% per cent SKA all over him. See them live when you can.

  • @pinkandjefflynne

Don't look much different , still touring and sounding as good as ever. (without madders though)

  • @pinkandjefflynne terry hall sound's and looks exactly the same now as he did then in the nineties he did collaborations with the likes of "tricky" (poems) check that out terry hall he is a legend or he is god if you believe in such things :)

  • 62 people just got married

  • Why did they not play in on the radio?

  • @TTGDama It didn't get played because of the U.K.'s government - The Tories. The Specials sang the song hittin on the downfall of youth and society due to policies introduced by the government : high unemployment, no amenities , YTS all that crap. Youth had no escape so took the easy route with housing and money i.e. having babies at an early age. The Specials hit on the truth on day to day struggles with the song which everyone who struggled knew was true but the hoo-rahs ( wealthy people ).

  • @djleesamuel complete tosh - it was played everywhere!

  • @djleesamuel That is so well put. To the ruling elite, the truth always hurt. The Specials tunes hold more resonance now than ever(especially "Ghost Town")

  • @56postoffice Cheers mate.......I'm sure I was right...and not in an arrogant way but down to growing up on ska / 2tone and Northern from the age of 5 years old and been surrounded by 3 skinhead sisters and a mod brother. You can't get any truer than that haha. Like you say 'truth' hurts......or they just talk 'TOSH'. Another example of The Specials music is 'stereotype'....another dig at the affluent i.e. University kids impreesing in the college bar and daddy with a jaguar - what's that?? haha

  • @djleesamuel The music industry has always been littered with middle class kids who thought they were "street" very rare to have working class music heroes now. That's what made the Specials "special"! Keep the Rudie alive, mate! :D

  • @TTGDama Radio 1 use to play it. It was a bit new-wave for Radio 2

  • I was there fkn class

  • Ghost Town remixed, at last. Click our name here if you want to check the new vid here, and feel free to leave good or nasty feedback! Up the revolution!

  • 62 to people dont no fucking good music.

  • This is total class... If you were there when these boys were playing this stuff you would know what it was all about... I was there!!! Awesome...

  • this sounds amazing live!!

  • Remember kids this is played live..not like the pre-recorded shit today..

  • @mic01 Too right mate. Totally agree with you.

  • @mic01 ´´the kids´´ are not only listening to pre-recorded shit from disney you know... but

  • @mic01 ey up tho mate dint they lip sync wen they was on top of the pops :O

  • @stinogrimsby you might want to re-read what I wrote..

  • @mic01 kind of short-sighted comment based only what you perceive 'kids' to be listening to, but fair enough i suppose. and some of the best (and by best i mean worst) miming i've ever seen to songs on tv was during the 70s and 80s ... but again, thumbs up for your reactionary effort!

  • @mic01 Why is it that everyone has to bitch about modern music they don't like on every video with a song older than ten years? Just shut up about it. With the internet you have access to all the music in the world, so why pay attention to the stuff you don't like?

  • @raizumichin contradict yourself much?

  • @raizumichin because is annoying that nobody is capable to create real music nowadays. We love old music but we also love music (generally speaking) and we want to hear on the radio some new artist that blow us off with outstanding lyrics, great music and passion for playing it.

  • @pablosgscr Sorry, but there's tons of people out there who create great music ("real" as you call it, although that doesn't make sense), if you don't think there's anyone who does that it just means you're not paying attention. And radio is dead, join the new millennium and get a Spotify or Pandora account, I'll guarantee you'll find new artists to love that radio never would've told you about.

  • @raizumichin I have to disagree sir, but I can't really argue with you cuz I don't know your musical taste so I don't know if by "great music" you are meaning Kelly Clarkson or Shakira. But if you can give me 5 examples of new musicians that make REAL music (as I call it) I'll be glad of hearing them. By real music I mean ART, like Pink Floyd, Guns n' Roses, TRS, RHCP, Eric Clapton, Queen and Pearl Jam once did and some of them still do.

  • @pablosgscr Well, that request is pretty hard since I don't know what you like, just as you don't know what I like. But since I told you to forget radio it should be obvious that Shakira isn't it. Some examples of what I've liked this decade are pretty much Everything Jack White and Dangermouse has been involved in, Franz Ferdinand, Eagles Of Death Metal, Gorillaz, The Constellations, Movits!, Martin Harley and TV On The Radio. But that's what I like, quit whining and find something for yourself

  • @pablosgscr So, how did spotify work out for you? Did you find some ART and REAL music? Or are you too comfortable with just whining on youtube?

  • @raizumichin no, just the same shit, new millennium boy. but thanks for the suggestions.

PS: I do like whining when something is not right.

  • @pablosgscr What do you mean, same shit? Spotify has over 14 millions songs on it, are you really saying that you didn't find anything you like? I'm pretty sure you didn't actually try.

Pointing out something that's wrong isn't whining, it's criticism. You're demonstrably wrong though, which makes it whining.

  • @raizumichin I think you will find it's called free speech, unless you advocate censorship?

  • Comment removed

  • @raizumichin Censorship is when you tell people to 'shut up' about voicing their opinions on a posting. I think it's more than a valid point to compare a great classic like this one with some of the crap that is 'made' today.

  • @caxtonman I'm just using my freedom of speech post my own opinion. I don't have any authority beyond the rationality of my argument, it would only be censorship if I had the power to actually limit others. By your logic you're trying to censor me right now.

I disagree with your comparison. The Specials belonged in a niche market even then. To find Biebers proper opposite number in '79 you'll have to look the big sellers of that year, like Anne Murray or The Knacks.

  • @raizumichin You are way too obsessed with Justin Bieber my friend.

  • @caxtonman I'm obsessed because I want you to stop talking about him? Not sure I agree with your logic there. I can't even name any of his songs, I only remember his name because people like you keep bringing him up.

But I must wonder why you opted for a simple (attempt at an) insult this time around. You started so strong with big words like censorship and freedom of speech. Have you perhaps realized how fallacious your arguments were?

  • @raizumichin I never mentioned his name at all, you did. Look back at the thread.

  • @caxtonman You didn't do it here, but the way you jumped to the defense for those who do leads me to believe that my comment has hit home with you too, you've probably been doing it elsewhere.

But since you're dropping the other topics, is it safe to say you realized you were wrong in you accusation of censorship and you ridiculous comparison between old niche music and modern mainstream?

  • @raizumichin Oh dear, we have a Bieber lover randomly leaving his unwanted opinions on a popular 'niche' band's posting. Why the hell are you here if you don't like it? The Specials will be held in high regards long after the 'mainstream' artist's have rotted away. Off you go Grandad...!

  • @caxtonman What the fuck are you on now? I haven't said anything negative about the specials. You're just grasping for straws at this point. I love The Specials and hate justin bieber, that's why I don't want to see comments about the latter on videos about the former. Why else would I tell people to shut up about him?

Oh, and stop trying to censor me, you enemy of free speech. By your own argument, saying something like "off you go" is censorship.

  • @raizumichin LOL. I love winding people up on here! Don't take it too seriously mate!

  • @caxtonman Sorry, not buying it. It's possible that you've been trolling for the start, but it's far more likely that you're just trying to hide behind that claim because your arguments keep falling apart.

  • @raizumichin You are so right my friend. ;¬)

  • @caxtonman Oh, so you are just hiding behind a failed attempt at comedy after your argument fell apart? God, I'm so right I manage to amaze myself.
