from what I see in this movie I think Freeman's character here wanted to kiss his bestfriend. I mean its pretty obvious that he's gay for him. He keeps looking at him when he was kissing the girl, Alice and seemed pretty upset about it. He was hesitant when Kattie (?) was going to kiss him. Plus he's father made that joke of queer and he practically kissed a guy mannequin. And he knew that his bestfriend was the one who stole the money yet he didn't accuse him.

re-watch it again if u think there are no gay characters...Just notice how Martin's character looked slightly shocked, uncomfortable even, when Catherine touched his face and was almost about to kiss him. His dad also made some gay joke and he got defensive. Then the ending where he was just staring at Danny, not confronting him about the money, maybe cause he likes him too much, more than a friend perhaps? and it was obvious the beginning they looked like a couple, implying something

I agree with you VulpinePIlot, there is a sexual tension from Frank towards Danny, especially shown towards the end when Danny asks him "what" and Frank, caught off guard, quickly responds "what". Frank kissing the mannequin was his way of seeing Danny's reaction to the idea. I think Frank chooses not to confront Danny for the theft because of his feelings for him. The film really invoked a lot of memories and emotions in me. It's a very well done film!

The characters are great, good play, especially Freeman... His "silly faces" really made me laugh, and his reaction toward his friend at the end is quite sad in my opinion, he'd have a good reason to strangle him but he just doesn't.

Whats there to get? Its a film about friendship and how one friend betrays that friendship by stealing but Frank chooses not to confront Danny at the end because he much prefers the companionship than falling out over it. It's simple, sometimes look at the subtlety in a film (his face of dissapointment at 10.29) which is very telling of his hurt.

The film is very funny and is a pleaseure to watch. I don;t get how people are confused???

This was a great film. Parts of it were silly and made me smile, then parts of it made me very sad.

I felt that the main character is quite obviously queer, but trying not to be. reading comments, I'm surprised that was lost on so many viewers.

I may not be familiar with New Wave cinema, but I loved this film. it invoked an emotional reaction (actually more than one) from me, and that is what true art is.
