  • wow ... saw Alison Krauss when she was 16 at the Pickin' in the Pines bluegrass fest in Northampton, MA, she was great then

  • Jerry Douglas on dobro...none better

  • Brilliant. Where was this performance.

  • @DocDocJerry it says "library of congress" across one of the beams behind them, so I assume that's it

  • GREAT, BRAVO SLIDE GUITAR.TOTALY WONDERFUL

  • Love it!!! These three are terrific. Wonderful tribute to S&G.

  • Absolutely fantastic.Splendid music and interpretation

  • Amazing rendering of a beautiful song! Equals or surpasses the original by Simon & Garfunkel.

  • Killer!

  • I would love to know what Shawn keeps looking at to her right.

  • I am so glad I found this on Youtube. I heard this on a TV broadcast awhile back and it literally put tears in my eyes. Believe me I don't cry much - also I am a huge fan of the original by Simon and Garfunkel. On top of that, I am not much of a country music fan. BUT - Wow this is just an incredible performance by Allison Krauss and an astonishingly beautiful cover to this great song. A few tears appeared again when I listened today....

  • @jhardng512 And Shawn such an amazing guitarist stood back and didn't take a ride, such a humble artist with so little recognition. I am a fan of both A & S but lets face it they are so equal in thier talent. This is a great video.

  • Fans of both, but I couldn't help but notice... please let me know if I'm not the only one, but Alison appears to "lip synch" or pretend to "really" play her first fiddle break. She starts to "play" and her bowing is not consistent and her expression is odd, and then the guitar and Shawn kind of laugh in the background like they know what's up... anyone else notice this? Alison is such an awesome fiddler, so I'm surprised.

  • @Fiddlechick What you are actually hearing is a combination of the fiddle with the trumpet being played with the muter on it. You hear the muted trumpet more prominently than the fiddle, which explains why it looks as if the sound starts before Alison starts fiddling....

  • Every once in a while, the moment, the players and a song come together and you catch lightening in a bottle.

  • The younger guitar player in back is Harper Simon... Paul Simon's son.

  • @funnieguy123 I like Shawn's disgust at Harper's whatever when AK is doing her thang at 2:22. Harper you deserve it.

  • The talent and artistry on that stage is worthy of the title of miraculous.

  • On what network was this broadcast? Shawn Colvin and Alison Krause -- two of my favorite singers of all time sharing a stage! Lovely.

  • what a cover. I got goosebumps

  • no no...I know who Jerry Douglas is, but the young guitar player who is walking around strumming his guitar who walks behind Shawn Colvin and grins ear to ear... who is that?? Also, who is playing the mandolin? He is pretty good too...

  • Anyone know who the guitar player walking around grinning is?

  • @dmwilson34 Jerry Douglas. A smile like pedobear but the best slide and picks on the planet.

  • @dmwilson34 i think it is Rufus Wainwright

  • Beautiful version of a great song...but I still need Hal Blaine's snare (recorded in the lift shaft of the Brill Building) on the ly-la-ly bit for it to really work for me!

  • A long time ago, I bought a Bootleg record (Made in Holland I believe) that featured Paul Simon. I was quite surprised to hear that the original version was angry, not sweet as it presented now.

Probably some corporate exec pushing 'commercial'. I still prefer the angry version.

  • If I may.. I learned to play 'The Boxer' as a young boy, played it at holiday camps in their talent contests...that ages me somewhat, but this is the best version I ever heard, coming from a very old guitarist and bas playyer who is gonna buy himself a hounddog resinator from christmas ... and learn to play like gerry does (ok I have at least 20 years)

  • Wow... what a stage full of blessed, talented and classy folks. This was a great version. When I think of Angels singing, it could easily be Shawn and Alison... and Jerry filling in on the Dobro (ha, ha!)

  • No matter who does this song it's always so pleasant to listen to.

The original studio version rules but this is the next best thing.

  • Great..

    Nonthaburi

    THAILAND

  • Wonderful song, great musicians - what more can you ask for?

  • Who can dislike this song-what a version.

  • Is there any song that Alison Krauss and Gerry Douglas can not do better than the original? And I am a Simon and Garfunkle fan!!!!

  • dang i thought this was paul simon...

  • damn those are two angels (the muslims can keep their seventy-whatever virgins) and that dobro player just kicks solid ass. wish i'd been there

  • @mccurryburg say what?

  • Every time I see and hear Alie Im in love again. S & G did this song thier way witch was forever the die for, I hate to say it but its right there with them. So much feeling put into that piece its unbeliveable. spell check please its late !

  • I love Alison's dress too :)

  • I love You Anne-Marie...

  • it's so pure, so perfect....

  • Wow. The harmony at 3:50? That's as tight as one ever can hope to hear.

  • @RoyHinkley1964 Alison has a truely wonderfull natural talent for harmony, thats why she can make anybody sound good!, at the part you mention she sings the natural third part harmony (not the second)( very natural for her high range) Yes you are right! so so tight, not only a great natural talent, but also a truely lovely nice

    person too!

  • Being that good should be against the law... thank goodness, it isn't.... just amazing.. and they look dang'ed near board singing it...

  • Alison Krauss, another amazingly talented lady with a voice to fall in love with X

  • Jerry

    Douglas
