Best Canadian Band Ever. Growing up in Northern New York, The Hip was a staple of any party, any road trip, any ANYTHING. Gord is an underrated genius.
he gives me chills. gord got so much energy he dont what to say in between his lyrics sometimes. i thinks it all random improvised words something. hahaha.
Those of us with listening ears have caught on to the greatness of the Hip. I first heard them on a Vancouver FM station while driving up I-5 through the Skagit Valley of Washington state, where I lived at the time. The song was '700 Foot Ceiling' off of their great 1996 release 'Trouble At the Henhouse'. Life has never musically been the same since.
@bwho way to go my american friend....one of our best kept secrets. Do yourself a favour and see them live. Border places such as Detroit and Buffalo love these guys
@mattjohnkearney I have seen Das Hip. Saw them at The Moore Theater in Seattle way back in 1998, then again in Seattle in Aug. of 2002 at Pier 62/63. Great shows, the both of them. Can't wait ta see them again, too!
i was there and it was f-ing awesome! been a big fan since the 80's and was shocked when i heard they were gonna play. only time ive seen them. ps it was our honeymoon.
@sparkytrick Meh, I'd argue that one of the themes of Woodstock is expressing yourself and your individuality. Gord, or at least his stage character is just this eccentric, borderline schizo type of guy, I think the suit or at least the shirt and tie look suits him well
how caN u think that their studio shit boring thats the dumbest thing ive heard all day. they are just the blue prints to the one of a kind jams such as this, guide lines for them to follow when they put on an unforgettable show. the studio stuff may not have all the extra music when they're live but they are still some of the best music of the last century. UR just an idiot jsumudio, phil-collins-listening-to homo
I honestly am not impressed with their studio work; I find it boring. So it's even more surprising to me that their live performances are absolutely brilliant, full of musical passion, and mind-blowing! I love it!
dpatch777-thanks, but I'm not in the MP3 world as of yet, anyway. I'm enjoying the buffer-free youtube music videos the last 2 days. Much improved over the buffering nightmare of the past couple months. Rock on!
"Im getting a message from beyond...we crossed when the lake was frozen...like exiles, from the Canada's of your soul! Whoo!" This man is not just a legend in his own mind, if he feels he is a legend, that is, but he's truly a rock and roll legend. Brilliant!
His style on this song reminds me of Van Morrison (The TB Sheets) ....this is definitely the Hip at their best. It really evokes what Canada is about for me.
dpatch777-yeah, I'm no help on the digital copying. I tried to copy a bunch of The Hip's and other band's YouTube videos on to CD and/or DVD-R's. No dice. Gives an error message or file message of gibberish and when I go to play the videos the file is there but nothing's on it to play. =:(
"I was following you, in a big red canoe, I was feeding you, with a 15-foot pole...of bambo! Whoo!" This man is so good it scares me, people! I can't watch this video enough times! Come to Arizona, Tragically Hip!
What a great memory! First Hip show for me. Honestly, I was not ready for this! I can guarantee I am total pro here (in NC) that's what I am here for! ...Everyone around me is smiling!
This sucker mesmorizes me. These guys are musical geniuses! I come here every day to watch and listen. And learn. After all, Gord says that "we've come hear to study you. It's us that gains the most! Right? Right? Whew!"
Notice at the end of the video when Gord's taking his jacket off...he decides to just hang on to it. Must like that coat too much to get any dirt on it! Of course, you have to understand, I watch this video pert-near every day.
Do you notice how people aren't going crazy and breaking shit during their set? They were destroying the whole place when Limp Dick was playing, but not so much during a little slice of Canadiana
I cannot argue with george11seinfeld , saw and medicated with the boys leaving the day after the Magnetic Hill N.B show, the day after 93 000 left the concert ALL AT ONCE, and we had to walk 13 miles back to town.
Still have the Smoking Moose Tour tee to prove it !

1) Foghat
2) The Guess Who
3) The Tragically Hip
4) The Drive-By Truckers
Curiously, I never need a 5th band in my lineup.

It was crazy to see all the Canadians swarm when the Hip hit the stage for this appearance. Keep in mind it was over 100 degrees when they hit the stage....
