@Rankmoistmeat "These reforming bands are ruining the reputation they built over the years, by becoming a parody of their past selves, and only for money."
As someone who lived and loved them in the 80s and 90s, I can say they rock as much now as they ever did. Really, you sound like such a douche. Just...stop.
fuck it's so annoying to see these legendary bands from the past ruining their image by ''resurfacing" all old and GREASY just so they can feel young again
@Rankmoistmeat Charles was always a portly gent, so IDK what that "GREASY" comment was even intended to mean. Also you have to be some negative fucker to find something wrong with such an excellent band reforming. It's not like they're playing any worse.
@PullingTeeth1 for the young, will it give them a concert experience as amazing as it would have been back in the day? If you sincerely feel that it will, well why not, but I doubt it's the case.
These reforming bands are ruining the reputation they built over the years, by becoming a parody of their past selves, and only for money.
@Rankmoistmeat This band can still capture their live essence. Seeing a band like Talking Heads reform to tour wouldn't be the same that is for sure, but it would be nice to hear new music created by those musicians as a band.
Pixies should continue to create new music. I think for the fans of old, it would be nice to hear new material at this stage of their career. I've seen them live five times now and I wouldn't mind hearing old tunes mixed in with the new stuff off an album I just bought.
@Rankmoistmeat i know plenty of young'uns that would jump at the chance to see the pixies live, of course they may not be as explosive as they were when they were 20, but they still rock alot harder than most of the shit out there these days, that's for sure.
Apparently, Frank and Joey had this written at university and it was probably played on the road a fair bit before release date. At the end of the day, Kurt did say he was just trying to write a Pixies style song, so it doesn't matter if it uses the same chords.
@SoundgardenPearlJam quite a weird song to be the song that got you into the pixies.... you must of been let down at first when everything not on trompe sounds completely different...
I'd like to see a video for this song, where two psycho guys head-butt each other in the head. Their skulls both split, and blood and brains spray everywhere! They fall senseless to the ground, and a dog comes up and bites the exposed brain of one of them! The dog tugs and pulls at the brain, whining and growling. Finally he pulls the brain out and runs off with it in his mouth! He runs and runs down the middle of a road! Then gets hit by a car. The brain bounces onto the side of the road!
one of the few -must see live before you die- bands!saw them live last june in athens!amazing performance!they ended their gig with Gigantic and the whole crown went crazy!!!
I stand corrected, TheToastBrothers! Wikipedia is a liar, though the more I think of it, the date given by Wikipedia might be the release date of the vinyl (which would make my previous statement correct) :)
One minute you meet someone and wonder how the hell he got into college. Five minutes late you find yourself in a conversation with the smartest people you've ever met in you life.
Its not actually this song that inspired Kurt's SLTS since UMass and SLTS were written and released at about the same time. Kurt loved the Pixies and admitted rippin them off but SLTS cant be a UMass rip off, it has to be some other song.
nah, it's cool. I'm sure Kurt never directly took SLTS from this song, and I can see your argument. I wasn't aware they were released together. I just saw the influence from the overall Pixies' sound in SLTS.
F, Bb, Ab and Db, and it's in the key of Fminor. (Making me get all technical...)
Whereas debaser is in the key FMAJOR, chorus based around
Bb, F, C, F, Dm, A, Bb, C
Verses based around
F, Bb, G, Bb
The soft/loud dynamic isn't 'directly' from gouge away either, Gouge away starts soft. Smells like teen spirit starts loud. They both alternate the soft/loud throughout.
i believe he actually "ripped off" gigantic its almost identically structured the same melodic verse (loud up on guns : and this i know) the bridge (hello how low:hey paul lets have a ball)
they couldnt have ripped off gigantic, this song was one of the first charles wrote in like '88 even though it wasnt released till later , it kinda sounds similar to gigantic but has a totally different feel to it .. PIXIES are definitely one of the greatest bands ever
Kim wrote Gigantic more-so than 'Charles', I hate it when people say Charles just because they know that's his real name. He came out as Frank Black so just call him that goddamnit.
we're talking about Umass here not gigantic , kim did write gigantic probably the only song she wrote for the pixies, and i reserve the right to call him charles if i feel like it feel free to call him whatever you want! cheers
Was that in response to me? I fucking agree it should be about U-Mass but you brought Gigantic up you massive hypocrite! Then I will call him 'King Black Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson the Fourth (IV) Blackity-Saviour-of-Music-and-my-Faith-in-Music Black'
No reason to get defensive about this i did not bring up gigantic, read the comments again I was just trying to clarify things oh and fuck you by the way! You spend way too much time starting shit with people online get a life my man .cheers
haha awesome!! you're one of the greatest on youtube ! keep it up dipshit ! sorry but i had to reply ! your stupidity just cant be ignored!I told you you were great! ;)
Saw them playing this live a few times, and it always hits the spot. What an absolute gem of a song. FB has one of the best set of lungs in the business and can fairly scream away to his hearts content. And ours. Thx for posting

the bass line from debaser are the same notes for SLTS, just played differently
and the soft/loud dynamic is directly from gouge away
