This is nice. I'm working on a surf instrumental right now. I'm having some amp issues and I came here to get my head cleared out. Thanks for a great track.
@MrMuddyBleach Thanks- it's fundamentally the same design as a vintage '62 Fender reverb unit (hand-wired, unlike the Fender reissues with circuit boards), which is traditionally how they got their dripping-wet reverb sound.
@morphballio Hey man tell me something. Would this still sound alright with a fuzz pedal/ overdrive in front of it? I've been trying to put together the gear I would need for this fuzzy but reverby guitar sound in my head.
@MrMuddyBleach Sure it would, I usually dirty up my sound with a little transparent overdrive myself. I also have a "Fuzzmite" (a great take on a Mosrite Fuzzrite), but don't use it with a lot of reverb at all... it's more for getting a Ventures/mid-60's/biker sound where the focus is the fuzz. I'd imagine the Hendrix Dunlop type of fuzz might work at a low setting though. I'd definitely give trans. OD (Timmy, Cool Cat TO) or something like a Xitoc RC Booster a shot first.
@morphballio Hah, the weird thing is is that I lovelovelove listening to Fuzzrite type pedals but I don't like the responsiveness I get out of most Fuzzrites or most fuzzes in general. I got a Fulltone OCD that might keep all that drippy reverb goodness intact.
By the way do you know any nice clean, gig type amps with good built in spring reverb in them under $700? I have a reverb pedal and I need some real spring action from an amplifier for some surf shows soon.
@MrMuddyBleach Well, if you're doing a full surf set, I'd just use that money for a Fender RI tank and use whatever amp you have; no amp reverb is going to get drippy enough IMO. It's the single most important tool in the surf sound, so don't skimp! But if you must use amp reverb, some people have used Fender Deluxe Reverbs with some success. Might be enough for you.
Your skills are outstanding, and your tone is bulletproof! You should be touring and sponsored!

So that reverb is from the G spring tank? That's pretty impressive.
