to Geshpenst: Dangaioh MUST be watched in the original japanese. That's the version I'm familiar with and it was quite good. The dub is beyond terrible, full of poor acting and many, many outright mistranslations (if what's on YouTube is any indication).
@rurounikjs I've seen it. While it definitely looks brilliant and the music is awesome, the series itself is basically 3 episodes of the same thing with little/no plot.
@rurounikjs You are correct good sir, dub is terribad and should be burried for all time. The original however is a masterpiece that for some odd reason never got off the ground, the story and artistic style were absolutely original and very awesome. The animation if you watch LD quality is on par or better even by current standards. Godannar even took a stylistic and musical hint from this show. Long story short it deserved more than the 3 episode treatment.
@Geshpenst Actually, just watch the original VHS releases from US Renditions and pretend that Manga Entertainment's DVD releases don't exist. The subtitled version from the VHS releases is uncut and spectacular.
If Kamiya Akira voices the robot's main pilot, it is 10 times more badass. If Chuumei-sensei wrote the robot's BGM, it is a further 10 times more badass.
Thus, Dangaioh is 100 times more badass than anything else ever.
Much of the soundtrack by composer Michiaki Watanabe is recycled material from his earlier works in anime and tokusatsu (live-action hero shows). One example is the ending battle in episode 1, where the background music is taken directly from Uchuu Keiji Shaider. Samples of tracks from Great Mazinger and Fight! Iczer-One are also heard throughout the series. Some of the original music was later used in Shinkon Gattai Godannar!!

So that explains why Dangaioh' Psychic Wave BGM sounded so much like the Laser Blades from the Space Sheriff Trilogy.

Dangaioh deserves to show up at least one more time in SRW.
