I made this same trip Feb 1975 in a VW Bus at ( -56 ) F ( search temps Beaver Creek B.C. Feb 12, 1975 ) Solo road trip with angles. No video in those days. It was a three day road trip from Hains to Anchorage via Beaver Creek. Lots of good photos and adventures. Amazing I live to tell the stories. I brought 25 extra gallons of gas in a 1973 VW Bus. Amazing what you'll in your twenties. JPsolotraveler48 JP
I'am abot to drive from anchorage to tennessee in november is the gas stations on the alcan highway still gonna be open or should i take alot of gas??
Awesome video man!! I am planing a move to Fairbanks with a U-Haul and a trailer pulling my car in mid to late Feb. and was wonder how the roads looked in the winter. Are gas stations far apart in upper YT? Thanks for the vid.
It was great to see this video. I will be making the drive from Whitehorse to Southern BC in the next 3 weeks. Nice to see what the roads will be like.
amazing.. i'm planning on going on a road trip just like this from Tulsa Oklahoma to Anchorage..but before that i'll have to get a car. Should i buy a RAV4 or sedans like Yaris are enough for the terrains that i'll be dealing with in the Alcan highway?
thought i would never find a video of a road trip from Alaska through Yukon territory and British Columbia..turns out i'm dead wrong. Make some more will ya!
Any reliable car should work fine on the Alcan. Many suggest to bring along a full-size spare tire. If you're going in the winter, its more about the tires you use, rather than having 4 wheel drive or not. The Bridgeston Blizzaks I used were amazing. They are a studless winter tire. They probably wouldnt last much more than 10-15,000 miles on dry pavement though. Best of luck!
I don't personally know anyone who had to put additives in their gas. I think gas' freezing temp is pretty low. Lowest temp I saw was -20f and there were no worries about the gas freezing. Diesel on the other hand is more susceptable to freezing, but once again I dont know the freezing point of diesel, as it varies based on whats in the fuel. Fuel companies may put in special additives for colder climates, but I really dont know. Either way you dont have to worry about it in Anchorage at least..
rite. thanks man.. how's winter this year in alaska? just a few days ago i read a book filled with fuel saving tips..they said that one way that you can get more mileage is by using an engine oil with a very low viscosity but still acceptable with your engine..Which, happens to be the best type of engine oil for cold climates... thought u might wanna know =)

AlCan.. Solo.. Mid-winter.. Mitsubishi Eclipse.. Holy crap, kudos.
I'm going Virginia - California tomorrow in a Scion TC. First time doing anything beyond 300 miles solo, and I keep watching this. Great stuff!

thank you for the advice..i never actually paid special attention on the tires for winter trips, thought using a regular all-season would be enough.
Safe driving! by the way is that a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse you're driving in this clip?

Close enough, it's a 2000 GT.

are additives required to keep your gasoline from freezing in this kind of trip where temperature is less than zero??
