  • Toss up between Josh and John Berry. Both are absolutely gorgeous.

  • Thank you God for the gift of Josh Groben's voice. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without it!

  • This guys is so good!!! and this song is the best interpretation i have heard of this song. Too sad they don't have it in itunes :( anybody knows where can I find it? I mean, by Josh Groban.

  • What kind of a diseased mind would dislike this song and singer. There are not enough words to describe how great this video is. Thank you so much for the upload.

  • @philliptjr1 .....I truly agree with you because who in his right mind would dare to dislike this wonderful song interpreted by no less than the operatic tenor josh groban...thumbs up

  • Only once in a life time do we get to see a talent good enough to sing a song of such inspiration!

  • @teaforone64 true

  • I don't normally like a lot of vobrato but Josh Groban is amazing! He has an amazing, deep, rich voice!

  • Aw! Zack on the piano! brings back old memories....

    <3 you Josh!!

  • If this is the same concert hall im thinking of I had the pleassure to sing there for the pope as a part of a choir in 7th grade. BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!

  • Define what is in your heart as you experience this incredible gift of a voice.

  • filmed with a potato

  • That sounds and looks like by best friend's older brother

  • Has anyone heard Javier Fontana 's version of this in Itunes? It is BEAUTIFUL!

  • Don't get me wrong, Josh is wonderful with this song. I love him!

  • Imagine how amazing it would sound if you put Celtic Woman and Josh Groban together on this song. Amazing!

  • @VolleyballQueen2016 That would be gorgeous!!!!

  • @VolleyballQueen2016 Very true!

  • JOSH GROBAN and CELINE DION both are greatest singers......they are SINGING ANGELS on this earth...........

  • Pls come to Singapore..

  • When Josh sings the line "Christ is the lord", it's like his soul opens up and I can see the wholesome, tender boy inside of him. I have the video of Josh Groban singing this song at the Rockfeller Tree Lighting a couple years ago, and it touches me every time. He has the most beautiful voice, and I don't think God could have given his vocal talents to a better person.

  • A beautiful rendition by a man with a masterful voice...the sound qualtiy is terrible though...somebody didn't get that right.!

  • Has anyone heard Bryan Hawn's version of this on Itunes? It is FLAWLESS!

  • Interesting!!! The singer sings in front of the Maestro!!! Is this the new progression of music. Josh, get in front of the Maestro. That's the way it is done and done well!!

  • @mommacat55 Not so sure that's true. And besides, what does it matter?

  • Perfect pitch-- and shy of a remix, you don't hear that very often anymore. Not with a live performance.

  • Thank YOU Lord for giving Josh the talent! I feel your presense each time when listening to this performance! Hope we can hear more Christian songs from Josh soon...May God bless Josh and his family!

  • If we can hear Jesus sing today, it probably sounds like this.

  • Questo video è come una reliquia per noi fan italiani di Josh Groban, infatti, è la sua unica esibizione in Italia!!!! Che scandalo!!!!!!!!

  • I love how Josh sings this song!! I only wished it was in his Noel CD.

May God continue Blessing him and his family. Peace and Love for the coming Year

  • Yes, Josh Groban has been a singer of God's for many lives!!!

  • Really beautiful, very good interpretation.

  • everytime I listen to this preformance it brings tears... no other artist has ever touched my heart like this

  • oh my goodness i'd hear this guy on the radio but i had no idea who he was... i thought he was like a 30 something year old guy with a beard and balding hair. lol

    He looks about 18 here!

That's a ridiculous blessing has there. goodness.

  • God's voices and talents descended to earth for us to enjoy.

  • gorgeous perfrormance, this is God-given talent

  • davidgreen must be phelp's lover or something..he is very good but nowhere near Grobin...letting an orchestra carry him??? jeez get a clue

  • listen to this song by Johnny Mathis too.

  • @justinbieberforking You're kidding, right?

  • He's okay, but he can't hold a candle to Justin Bieber.

  • @justinbieberforking ha ha ha, you're funny! That was the joke of the year!

  • Any one have a better recording of this?

  • @laurajdahl Yeah, the best one is on this page with over three million views, much better quality! You probably found it by now.

  • @laurajdahl

yes you tube david phelps someone posted it named blitzn777...if you can listen to that and tell me that boy cant sing then.... something is wrong hahaha

  • I love Josh Groban so much...

  • yawnnnnnn ahhhh this is a sorry version i feel NOTHING from him. he cant even hit the power notes...he lets the orcrestra fill in.

go watch David Phelps version and the POWER and feeling he puts behind that wonderful song. then come back to this weak version and yawn

  • @XvmerrivX ...lol...I love when people who have no idea about what music is, what music theory is and people with an IQ less than that of Physarium Polycephalum are making a criticism about a musical savant. Obviously, this person has no musical knowledge whatsoever.

  • @davidgreen74

oh BTW...you do realize what "projecting" is right? :D

  • @XvmerrivX David Phelps is a joke-pure and simple. He does not have perfect pitch like Groban. Do you know what perfect pitch is? Probably not. I am a savant, not in music, but I am a musician and do have perfect pitch. I am a savant in Science and Mathematics. The comment of Groban's voice being a gift from God is about as close as it gets to being the truth. So please before you post anything, have a clue as to what you're speaking of. It's appreciated...:-)

  • @davidgreen74 You say you are a savant in science and math. It would be interesting to read anything you have written on either subject. Do you have an opinion on Groban's singing, or Maria Callas, Kiri te Kanawa, or any other of the great voices. Do you have an opinion on Beethoven or any of his compositions? Fire away.

  • @davidgreen74

this is even more hilarious!!!!! rofl!!!!!!! the guy is letting an orchestra carry him because he has to keep his "perfect pitch"??? hahahahaha this wimp can sing his way out of a wet paper bag! next to David Phelps! I think your "savantness" has kept you from letting your fingers do the walking over to that video and giving it a listen. Because if you had..you wouldnt be embarrassing yourself with your reply. bowing to your savantness hahaha what a JOKE!

  • @davidgreen74 here I'll make it easy for your "savantness" im copying a link over to the site

    h t t p : / / / watch ? v = x I d j Y Q x b T I U & feature = related

now ya got to listen to the whole thing..you cant wimp out and critique the first three notes...

see if you can come back here and say this guy is better after listening to this ;) I dare ya!

  • @XvmerrivX

and I do mean the Live Version "by blitzn777" you can get a real feel for how people can really sing Live. David Phelps "Oh Holy Night"

  • I listen to this song year round. This is the most beautiful version of this song that I have ever heard.

  • This was the favorite Christmas carol of my Dad, whose passing was not as recent as it feels. And mine, as well.

  • What's up with the 22 people who "dislike" this?!?!?!?! One other singer that, so far, no one has compared Josh to is Pavarotti! They both give me the chills!!!!!

  • What a great voice singing a great song.

  • Putting aside the bias of me being a Josh Groban fan, I think this is the best version of "O Holy Night" I've ever heard." It's almost like this song was written for him to sing...

  • His voice really can give a very sensational feeling.very soothing ,makes you feel like floating on thin air.very well done Josh Groban..

  • I just like the song; not a Groban or a Phelps fan. I just listened to both versions. My unbiased verdict: Groban is very good, Phelps is great. True, additional years of experience probably brought Phelps to greatness (on this song at least), and Groban can "catch up".

  • They shoulda put this song in Harry Potter... =)

  • I agree the Josh Groban rendition of this song is amazing. His rich voice moves mountains. Another version well worth a listen is by Mariah Carey, she hits every note effortlessly, like a songbird. Simply said it takes your breath away, and will move you to tears. I would love to see them perform a duet of this song... or perhaps a talented YouTube fan will do "mash-up" of both versions...?? (hint hint) Now that would be a real treat. Happy Holiday everyone... Merry Christmas and God bless.

  • David Phelps blows Josh Away with this song. It is not even a competition.

  • @why4444 well.. I dont think David Phelps sang this well when he was 21, as Josh is in this video. soooooooooo. yea. You might feel differently if you heard him sing it now.

  • some singers just bring such light to the world...and he is one...god given talent that uplifts us all.....!!!

  • His voice is absolutely beautiful, but in this version, the accompaniment is a bit too loud. They should have toned it down and had his voice be more prominent.

  • The most beautiful rendition of this song ever. His rich, majestic, pure, clear, powerful voice can reach low notes and especially the high notes with a very big manly voice, sustaining it without problem. Other singers have to change the pitch to reach the high notes thus sounding squeaky. Josh sings it beautifully, perfectly. This is how the song should be sang and sound like.

  • This is the best modern day Christmas song in my opinion, only second to Nat King Cole the Christmas song of course. I just recently heard the new version of "O holy night" from Lea Michele? from Glee and it is incredible. She has a beautiful voice the song gives me the goosebumps :P

  • 19 people are Jewish.

  • He has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard on this earh I wish I could take my mother to see him she is elderly and has macular degeneration and she cant see very well but she loves beautiful music

  • @InClaraVoce Let's hear you and your terrible voice and ugly face sing you little douchbag.

  • May God bless him

  • Oh boring....

  • @dljones33 somebodys jealoussss

  • Comment removed

  • @broadwayjunkie123 No, just, just, just ....yawn... bored. I know JG is very well liked by many folks just not my cup of tea. I'm sure he is laughing all the way to the bank.

  • I won't be home so, as I said last year.

"This man is talented beyond belief. This rendition is the type of thing that anyone can appreciate due to it's simple yet expertly crafted form. May God Bless him and the World each and every day. May we also remember that Christmas is about Jesus', the messiah's, birth...the birth of a life which he chose to save us all with. God bless your Christmas season. Always remember him and may this song always bring it to a heartfelt reverence in you mind."

  • Truly a gift from God................ what a wondefull voice.

    God blessed you Josh !!

  • Great singer/song...but he looks like an ape when he hits that really high note.

  • Everyone says that he does the "greatest" version of this song. That is very far from the truth. He is hitting the wrong notes during the high parts!! Just listen to it again... for some reason he can't hit the notes during high part when he says "night" or "devine"

Now, do you guys really want to hear the only version of this song? John Berry does it. No one and I mean NO ONE can compete with his version. NO ONE has done it right except him.

  • @sannitig You're kidding right? Have you never heard of David Phelps? watch?v=xIdjYQxbTIU&feature=share

  • @sannitig God, I listened to it and it SUCKED so bad. Wtf, how can you possibly like that crap over this? Josh Groban sings like a man, it sounds like John Berry's got a vagina, wth.

  • he looks like rafael nadal

  • Celine can't touch this guy. I totally agree, best rendition ever.

  • Most beautiful voice ever. Powerful yet very pleasing to the ears. He has the most awesome, gorgeous quality of voice. Best rendition of all time. This is how it should be sung. No straining of voice. PERFECT!

  • beautiful but i have to say celine dion is still better

  • I like this song and Groban does a great job singing it, but God quit interfering with humans when he put single cell organisms on earth billions of years ago.

There are 100 billion galaxies in the universe, all likely with humanoids or some kind of evolve creature, so I don't think God is spending time tuning up Josh's vocal cords.

  • two words, David Phelps baby!!! o.k. three words

  • Oh, my, how beautiful.

  • Gotta love that Ringo!

  • beautiful!

  • Not a big fan of H.G but his version of this song is definitely the best ever... (imho)

  • No way Celine Dion was far superior.

  • Josh Groban has talent and ability that come only from God. Some singers are made. Some like Josh are born. He has taken that talent and run with it. This is my favorite Christmas song. It is not an easy song to perform well. He does it here. I can only hope he will have many, many years to share his songs with us. God bless him.

  • @denlee42 i cant possibly express it better than you have....merry christmas...and god bless!!!

  • @denlee42 bet you didn't know he was jewish...

  • Merry Christmas, all!

  • A Perfect interpretation of one of my all time favourite religious songs. No theatrics just passion and reverence.

  • beautiful singing ...

  • @BPTemmel316 I just watched the David Phelps version and it is really good. One thing you have to remember though is that David Phelps is a tenor with an extraordinarily enormous vocal ranges where as Josh Groban is a Baritone who can sing only a few notes in the lower Tenor range. They both have amazing voices for their vocal parts and ranges. Just realize, Phelps may be able to hit high notes Groban cannot, but Groban can reach some of the lower Bass notes that would be hard for Phelps.

  • It may be true that Josh is a baritone, but while for solo singing, one of the most important things to do is to expand your vocal range. Your voice can be taught how to sing a high Db if you do exercises everyday that stretch your vocal chords. The only excuse for not being able to sing high notes is age. Also, high notes are much prettier than low notes. Again, Josh is a good singer, but I think David is better.

  • Depends on your tessitura though.

  • As for Noel, If you call screaming singing then Phelps is you man.

Josh sing this song with a lot of feeling and at the perfect tone. This youtube sound is far of the quality of a cd and Josh still sounds good.

  • Josh is a good singer, but there is no doubt in my mind that David Phelps is better. David goes up to a high Db and then sustains a Bb for 10 full seconds. Plus, he does it all in chest voice. I can hit every note Josh sings without straining. Also, I David Phelps has a much better stage presence. Josh kinda just stood there the whole time without much facial expression. He's a good singer, but I think David Phelps is much better.

  • @BPTemmel316 well mate, when you look at the musical score, I don't believe it says hold the Bb for 10 seconds, 4 or 5 at the most. Sounds like David Phelps strains a lot to me. Impressive though.... But I like Placido Domingo's version or Juan Diego Florez.

  • True, the music doesn't call for a 10 second Bb. BUT, you can't just sing the regular score because it's been around too long. You HAVE to change it. David just did it in a way that shows his incredible vocal power. I don't think Josh's arrangement was much different from the original, and didn't really "show off" his voice. I'm not saying Josh is bad, because he really is good, I just think David is better.

  • As amazing as his voice is, I am disappointed that the music is so loud that it drowns it out for most of the song. It is much much better at the Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony. First time I heard that one, it brought tears to my eyes.

  • why does he look similar to Jackson Rathbone????

  • Thanks for sharing this. I love watching live perfomances and this one is pretty spectacular. :)

  • If jesus had a voice, It'd be Josh Groban's.

  • that really makes no sense.

  • Wouldn't he miss it?

  • Funny how you dont capitalize Jesus, but you do Josh Groban. The one above all that deserves our praise and He does not even get it.

  • Yeah, and you even take your time to capitalize pronouns that refer to him even though that would be grammatically incorrect. Talk about scoring major points for the afterlife, and I agree that Josh Groban, the one above all that deserves our praise, doesn't get it.

  • @xxthemessenjahxx

Not everyone believes in worshiping Jesus.

I think Josh is a good singer, and I'm not religious.

  • This man is talented beyond belief. Always remember him and may this song always bring it to a heartfelt reverence in you mind.

  • this is wat christmas is really about. not gifts...JESUS.

  • This is my favorite version of this song! Merry CHRISTmas!

  • Josh was blessed with such a beautiful voice

  • Josh Groban...I adore you. You mesmerized and awed me with your incredible perfomance of this very Christmas song (my favorite holiday song of all times). Simply magnificent. Such great honor it must be for you to performed at one of the most venerable places on Earth. God bless you:)

  • Breathtaking. I'm an atheist; this makes me want to pray.

  • Then pray, friend. Don't ask to whom, don't think of what to say. Just pray.

  • Hope you have a great prayer.

  • Josh Groban has the best redation of the O Holy Night.. Peace on Earth, Merry Christmas to all man kind.

  • Simply amazing. I love listening to Josh Groban sing his version of this song over other atrists. I like the other artists' versions but I personally like his the best. This really relieves me from stress work brings on during the day. Pure talent.

  • His voice is so overwhelming. It has that Morgan Freeman affect on you.

  • @baconpatrol1

i would say he has more of a James Earl Jones kind of effect

  • i wanna cry... this song is so beautiful and so right to be sung in front of the vatican at every christmas

  • AWESOME

  • Its fitting that Josh would be singing this at Christmas in the Vatican. He does the song and the location proud.

  • makes me cry every time just beautiful

  • A SUPERB rendition of this timeless French carol!

If you appreciate this version -- then check out Jussi Bjorling's "O Helga Natt".

Bjorling's been dead 60 years and it's still his unsupasserbly flawless version of this song that heralds the beginning of Christmas in Scandinavia!

  • absolutely beautiful, no one sings this song like Josh does

  • This was good but you should come hear Aaron on Dec.5...it will be just as good! at the lenawee christian family center at 700..

  • the best

  • wish he'd sing out a bit more. he seems to timid, he needs to belt it out a bit! lol

  • This is sick. Does anyone know what key he sings it in?

  • If you love Josh singing this please check out Chris Pinnella singing O Holy Night- even if you go to just 3:26 of the song- thanks!!! A dedicated Mom who thinks Chris voice is truly amazing and LARGE!

  • I wish the Vatican would still do these concerts!

  • divine!

  • Na. Sounds in tune.

  • I love Josh Groban's voice.

But Is it just me or is he flat every time he sings the high "Divine" and "Noel" during the chorus.

  • I think he found the middle of the note at both spots

  • He is great.. I heard a guy like him, but a tenor in concert last year in Pa.I thnk his name is Matthew Rush. Anyway really really fantastic. Big voice just like Josh's.

  • josh actually has a very small voice. it's beautiful, but it's not large by any means.

  • @raigekimaru Very true.

  • Josh Groban

I love this song it very good you sing so good Josh Groben I love it

you are amazing god gave you a prettey voice you are very cute and I love you Josh groban

you should see my sister its Rebekah Mason se tu ma she sings good to

  • 2:49.... I get chills.

  • Inimitabile Josh Groban!!!! Una delle voci più stupende, con un gusto e un repertorio meravigliosi...

  • He has the voice of an angel. im absolutly convinced he is an angel because when he sings this song its amazing. he is made to sing holy music it fits him. we sing these songs to praise the Lord and he is an angel sent by Him so it fits perfectly . please say " I AGREE" if you agree with what im saying and beilive he is an angel sent by by God himself

  • It's more likely he is a regular human being with an ear for tone and proper body mechanics for singing well. Then years of training and practice.

  • Plus, with the looks of an Angel!! haha!!

  • It's true. Sorry, child, but Occum's Razor supports king's theory.

  • This guy can sing

  • I think that David Phelps has a better version

  • Josh Groban is an brilliant singer and interpreter, and this is a beautiful version. But what David Phelps does in that Holy Night posted here is out of this world. I agree with you, it is flashier, but its also near impossible to do with those key changes and holding those high notes like that. These things are always a matter of particular taste, but don't put down the Phelps version, because it really is near impossible for any singer to pull that off, I believe Josh G would agree on that.

  • he is just SUTCH a good singer! xD

    *hugglez*

  • he sings very good. that's my favorite song

  • He has really great voice

    J'ai aimé sa voix

  • I hope you still love it

  • hahahaha I thought the same thing! You loved it? What happened?
