The other half of the time it was hardly open, but still open, and I can still remember vividly all the blood that Jesus shed in the movie... and the cruelty displayed.
It was horrifying, and I was so scared. I waited 2 years later to try watching the entire movie, eyes open and everything, but I still can't do it! I cringe every time the nailing scene comes. So bloody and sad... :/

That's a very passive and childish way to practice Christianity. Asking for forgiveness also implies that you won't do whatever you did wrong again...you're not doing it for kicks or as a "get out of Hell free" card, you're doing it because you know you were wrong and are repentant. When it first came out tons of people were trying to stop it from going into Cinema and telling everybody it wasn't worth watching, but it only made people want to see it more. this movie got more viewings than lord of the rings.....and every showing was supposedly packed full. What I always objected to re: this film was how blatantly obsessed Mel was with the violence of the scourging. Came off as exploitative rather than artful. He just HAD to show every moment of mutilated flesh, didn't he? And the millions of religious fundamentalists just swallowed it all as the "undisputed" truth.
I couldn't even bare in a gag anymore once the guy hit 12... it was so nasty.

This movie was pretty poor in my opinion, like if Mel was just trying to justify the clumsyness of it with all the violent scenes. Just my two cents, now, let the flaming and thumbs down begin.
Not really poor for the "effect" desired, which was to graphically shock the audience with all those gory scenes, but it lacked a lot of the plot aspects that previous Jesus Christ movies had, like, more personal Jesus, his relations with the disciples, etc.

It would have been nice to have some flash backs in the movie regarding his teachings. Not just the passion. For example the sermon on the mount. or the miracles and healings..etc

We know for sure that he does exist, we know that he was banished from the Kingdom Of Heaven for standing up to God and that he took (and takes) the whole thing out of Man, God's creation, to get back at Him. That's a very passive and childish way to practice Christianity. Asking for forgiveness also implies that you won't do whatever you did wrong again...you're not doing it for kicks or as a "get out of Hell free" card, you're doing it because you know you were wrong and are repentant. And if you truly are a Christian, you know that Satan exists whether you believe in him or not...

When it first came out tons of people were trying to stop it from going into Cinema and telling everybody it wasn't worth watching, but it only made people want to see it more. this movie got more viewings than lord of the rings.....and every showing was supposedly packed full. When i first watched it in cinema, everyone was crying after it was done.
He went through all that because He loved us. That is true love. We can all learn from His example

What I always objected to re: this film was how blatantly obsessed Mel was with the violence of the scourging. Came off as exploitative rather than artful. He just HAD to show every moment of mutilated flesh, didn't he? And the millions of religious fundamentalists just swallowed it all as the "undisputed" truth.

True, it was sad and most people were in tears, certainly a detailed scene, like the entire movie pretty much was... but as a kid watching it... it frightened me for life. I can't ever watch this movie, no matter how Christian I am... it's a shame.

Not really poor for the "effect" desired, which was to graphically shock the audience with all those gory scenes, but it lacked a lot of the plot aspects that previous Jesus Christ movies had, like, more personal Jesus, his relations with the disciples, etc.
Sorry for my bad English man, but as I said, that's just my opinion.
