What is this crap show doing in Chessbase? This is not making chess cool, it's portraying it very inaccurately. For one thing, it's very rare that a game of professional chess ends in check mate, that's the number one cliché of chess and this show has it. And what's so extreme about this? At 20 minutes each, that's nothing compared to a true 5 to 3 minutes blitz game.
I love what you are doing here. Obviously the first episode has some rough spots but overall nice job. As for some of the comments about the players, they are all master strength players. I think some of you are underestimating the mistakes that can happen in games played at such a fast time control. The second game was an excellent fight.
EXTREME LAME CHESS!!!!!!!!!!!! That guy couldn't see a simple knight(Ng3) fork of his bishop & rook and on top of that he puts his Q in firing line of the knight..WTF!!! Even a beginner would have seen that and saved his rook instead...And what's wrong with that lady commentator, she was a train wreck...?? This is what happens when anchors meant for some sleazy gossip channel hosts a chess show.It didnt look like she knew sh#$ abt the game. Saving grace was that guy commentator..Show sucks!!
Great idea. Alright on the execution. Jennifer you have to admit, the "Checkmayyyyte" line in the song that keeps creeping up isn't cool. No cooler than the chess-themed buckle-lookalike clothing lines...
Instead of watching the game, and the commentators adding useful hints, I get commentators explaining basic chess stuff while hiding the game almost completely. "It was like... so annoying!". How can one start the video explaining chess rules, then talking about the Catalan, then moving back to what a checkmate is? also, with only one game to win or lose, getting to play with white or black is decisive, turning all of this into a game of luck.
@curtains20 I seriously doubt they are in the 2000+ range..it doesnt like that after seeing that 1st guy in green shirt missing a simple fork..tactical moves like that are subconsciously analyzed by anyone above 1500+...except Alyssa, who we know for sure if a seriously good player..
When the players are seated East and West, why for the love of God do you have the chess action oriented North and South? It makes it visually very confusing
To my mind in the second game move ...d4 was Black's mistake. By the way, those who has a low level, remember that Qween Knight usually make a good attack against enemy King.
Part 2 ! This show will do great things for chess. I think everything about this show was done well and it has a wide appeal to chess players at all different levels. I do need to know what happens between Elliott and Alisa though, right now!
@MyWorldOfBlocks well usually masters resign early because they can see the mate many moves ahead.I guess this show is geared towards beginners mostly maybe that's why they made them play till the end.and the hostess is fucking hot too so that's a plus xD
i liked it :) Altho as a chess player, the commentating is a bit basic, almost boring. But sinc e this is supposed to appeal to people of all abilities, it makes sense
They should just show the chessboard the whole time. I could careless what the people look like and what they do outside of chess. Also, a deeper analysis would be nice, it sounds like they think we're retarded.
They shouldn't have done this with such top level players. The game is much more complex than they made it look. I couldn't stand listening to them point out the obvious things in each game. This commentary would have been a lot better for a more junior competition or something.
If I'm not mistaken, Justus is the youngest African American master (as pointed out in the video) but that title was formerly held by Kassa. As a chessplayer (not quite as good as these guys) I like this whole concept. I can tell it's designed for an audience that does not have a background in chess and the commentators do a great job of addressing the audience in their commentary of the games.
this is awesome! as a non chess lover/understander, this gives me a view into a world i find fascinating...hope to see more episodes soon! great work!
I like how this video is most popular with 35 to 65 year old males, but this video is clearly aimed at teenagers....sigh..*goes to other video*

@garrywarne1 I think they want them to play to mate just to help avoid confusion with newer players.

How he didn't see knight attacking his rook on a 15 minute long game? o.O That should be able to see even at 10sec per move game..
HB3l1 2 months ago 4
Just a few comments on the rules that I've been asked questions about:
1. The pairings were decided via a random drawing ceremony before the event.
2. Each player gets 5 seconds added to their clock after each move (there is a 5 second increment)
3. If the first game ends in a draw, the players reverse colors, and play again without resetting the clocks.
