I wish to stick up for Bill Wyman. He must be one of the most under-rated musicians ever and here is great example of his sensitive playing. Reminds me of Rick Danko. Which means great!
Someone here seems to think Mick Taylor is American? He's British of course, from Welwyn Garden City. As well as the beautiful solos Mick played in the Stones, I think its the actual sound of his Les Paul whacked through some great tube amp which kills me. What a sound! Quintessential Les Paul tone
@coolzstuff they killed or ordered Brian killed, and became a gay band (punishiment? guilt?), Jagger used to wear women's clothes when he and Brian and Keith lived together according to Hunter Thompson's book and Brian and Keith used to make fun of him, a woman broke up the Stones because she broke Brian and Keith up (Anita Pallenberg)
I agree mashadow...however money and politics are always the consumate catch 22 both for us the public and for those directly in the thick of those afore mentioned steel guitar engagements...
beautifully done. you 've caught the quintessence of this glorious song (I've been burnin' my bell book and cancle) and the Stones at this moment in time. bravo.
@jackquack92 I agree on the solo. I've loved it for years. The emotion in Mick Taylor's playing is just cosmic. Hard to believe that he left the Stones....Alive....
all of you that are down on Ronnie, come on, lets be serious. Listen to the guitar work on Some Girls, he has a different style with MT. MT is the classic soloist, Ronnie is a weaver along with Keith., thats what makes it work. Or listen to the live version of Cant you Hear Me Knocking with Ronnie playing lead. If that doesn't convince go listen to some of his work with the Faces. Check out the tunes Bad and Ruin and Debris. These tunes are heavily underated. Ronnie is a great guitarist.
@stnsnsteel In a lot of different ways, Ronnie is the most talented one of the bunch. Every Stones member had their place and talent, but when it came to both bass & guitar, and Lord knows what ever else he can play I don't know about, he's the man. Kinda' like Brian Jones somewhat in that respect. Plus, his art work & drawing are no joke either.
Yes MT was great. Yes he was around during the Stones' 'best' years but I do think the whole 'come back it's never been the same without you' attitude is a bit overdone. How long do you have to listen to the stones to realise the whole point to their sound is being a bit ropey, off the beat and basically everything Kieth stands for. Dismissing everything post- MT is what all the critics have done meaning newcomers to the Stones miss out on albums like Dirty Work or ER. Give them a few listens!
If the Stones were smart they'ed bring Mick Taylor back for their next tour which will probably be their last.....Go out in style....,Ronnie could play bass,he doesn't come close to Mick Taylor.
@madshadows830 - Taylor just never played "loose" enough for the Rolling Stones,he never improvised and was more a Jazz guitarist than a Rock & Roll one!
The opening licks up to the ohwhoaahh( which I still like to think Keith did,Then Mick followed up..) will, like this ENTIRE song, haunt me til' the day I die. It's that beautiful.Rolling Stones---->truly now and forever, a WAY OF LIFE.
@brunetteshock Um....No I mean put Ronnie on bass.....Bill Wyman is going to be 75 years old next month. It's time for the Stones to bring Mick Taylor back on guitar.....He's been missed for far too long.
@madshadows830 heard on the radio in NYC that they were considering bringing Bill and Taylor on tour in 2012, Keith's a genius, they're just waiting for Jagger to give the ok
Mick Taylor is the BOMB on this song… Too bad that he is no longer a part of the band. The Stones WILL NEVER be the same without him. Ron wood is adequate at best; he’s no MICK TAYLOR…
Hey Mick & Keith… are U reading this and all of the other posts saying the same thing??? Bring MT back!
@rubicon1983 Stones had some fine moments without him: Satisfaction, Paint It Black, JJF, Sympathy For The Devil, Beast of Burden, Shattered, to name a few.
@steveconn I stated in my post that Mick Taylor stole the show on the albums he played on. While some of those Stones tracks you mentioned are great, Taylor DIDN'T PLAY ON THEM.
@rubicon1983 Uh, yes, that was my point. What I was doing was countering your statement by listing the fine songs the Stones did without him. Thought that was clear.
everyone talks about mick taylor like hes dead, but that god of a man is still alive, if only jagger was smart enough to go get him id be much happier
At 3:20 begins one of the finest solos in Stones history. Does not need to be long and loud, just beautiful. In 1 minute Mick Taylor defines this song. Too bad Keith was jealous, imagine if Mick T never left

@kevinjim33 Keith and Mick are the stones no doubt...But people like Mick Taylor,Jimmy Miller and Nicky Hopkins played enormous and under stated roles in the band over the years....look at "she's a rainbow"....how Nicky didn't get a song writing credit on it is beyond comprehension...."sway" os another one....Keith didn't play a lick on the sessions...It's all Mick tayor and Jagger.....Yes Mick Tay;or's name is nowhere to be found on the writing credit...."time waits for no one" is another.
@madshadows830 I'm not arguing with you at all; Mick and Keith dicked Taylor out of songwriting credits for sure. I was just taking issue with you saying he was the ONLY guitar player in the stones. @nipseysdad - Taylor was the fulcrum of every great stones song of this era. Every true fan knows this. "Can't you hear me knocking" is the virtuoso at his peak.
@nipseysdad YOUR 3 WORDS SUM. mick taylor was heterosexual AND with us niggers but the bisexual rod stewart lover ron wood hit town. Winter in Syracuse, NY is true winter. Mick Taylor was sent there by Mick. As an Atlanta-bred Southerner Mick Taylor shot up LSD to stay warm and went to "the bottom line" and "alpine lounge" to see some strippers when it was dangerously cold. I own both. Mick Taylor is a sex maniac, Leary disciple, nigger-lover, song-donating unpaid Jew psychic.
@nipseysdad For real! I'm a guitarist so of course I'm a huge Keith fan...but Mick Taylor has the best lead chops. His work on this song is up there with Clapton and Duane Allman on the Layla album. Those three should have done some stuff.
This is my favourite Stones song along with Angie. Taylor's beautiful slide guitar is so passionate and the song is just so transcendent and pure in every way...
This is one of my most favourite Stones songs ever - great song, lyrics and wow that guitar from Mick Taylor - can never hear it enough! I always play it when stuck on damn long haul airplanes or in airports - helps me relax too ------------------ ABSOLUTELY EFFING BRILLIANT I say !!!
Jacqui White - this is one for you from Chris Harrison in Australia with memories of Lewisham in '79 - I will for ever remember you preparing to be someone you were not to this fantastic song. I pray you are well and different now!
I agree with dugitomi, Sammy Hagar...REALLY ? Are you high,I can't drive 55, what a bunch of crap. Sammy or people of his irk shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Keith and Mick Taylor. Keith is THE BEST EVER.
A great song from an underrated album which is undiminished by time. I remember hearing this song on the radio in '73 driving down Pacific Coast Highway at night. Takes me back to better times!

One of the Stones' greatest songs - too bad it never gets the credit it deserves.

i just think that the stones burnt out..so many albums every yr or so..big tours
i dont think any band could do that today..
and get the quality of these albums..even the recent albums..steel wheels onwoulds
are pretty good solid albums.

@frankmarcinak You should listen to the album Montose, Montose, Song Make It Last. Them talk to me about Sammy!

A great song from an underrated album which is undiminished by time. I remember hearing this song on the radio in '73 driving down Pacific Coast Highway at night. Takes me back to better times!
