never seen something like this in 16 years of kung fu! Other way of life...we will never reach this level with office work and sedentary activities exept meditation.
I was doing this as he did it... but then I got to 4:25 and they started skipping the other leg and I lost myself. This is an awesome stretching exercise though.
wow that guy is unreal, he really does make it look so easy. I've been stretching for an hour every day for the past month or so, when am i going to see results like that???????
It usually takes me about 30 mins to get warmed up by doing leg raises hip rotations and light stretches etc before I can get my full stretch. So its really only about half an hour stretching. I think i'm fully recovered because I dont feel stiff the next day, not anymore anyway. I'm really just looking for reasurance that all this stretchings going to pay off, from sumbody whos had to work to acheive flexibility.
if you've hit a plataeu try taking a week off all together and switching your focus to developing strength in the stretched positions and throughout the entire range of movement such as holding a stretch against resistance or with weights. (example: chair splits or chair splits with weight)
Beak Do San' type it in im really starting to think thats were they got the tekken character idea from this guy is really famouse in south korea you know.
everyone's body responds differently to flexibility. depending on how you're structured is going to determine how quickly you can become and stay flexible at a level such as this. Never the less, I encourage everyone to make flexibility their top priority and do these exercises every day :D. I attempt to do my flexibility training 3 times at day in the morning, some time in the mid-day and an hour or so before I sleep. Keep practicing and you'll be amazed how far your body can go lol.
....... i don't do karate or whatever but i dance and i need this kind of flexibiliy :P so is it ok if i try this as well..i mean would they help me ? :D i can't split like he does though :S
Why not? Listen to your body and only stretch as far YOU can. Be happy with whatever progress you make but never satisfied. Challenge yourself to continuously make small improvements and eventually, maybe one day you will see that you are approaching this master's skill
yes i bought 2 taekwondo training manuals, they both have different routines and don't explain them well just show you how to do them and then they just leave u lol
Not mention you need the one-on-one physical contact to learn self-defense and sparring. You can't learn to fight without a training partner or simply getting into a lot of fights. Start asking around at local YMCAs Healthclubs etc.. you'll find an instructor eventually.
Jajaj dont worry , what i said in my comment was that i am amazed at the flexibility and mastery of this taekwondo sensei ( i know it's a japanese term but i dont know how to say it in korean ) . I am an ashihara karate and hajime dachi practicioner and aside the fact taekwondo is not japanese i want to congratulate this master with a deep Osu!!!
stretching has great health benefits for people of all ages. If flexibility is developed at a young age it is easier to maintain. Many stretches in this video are too advanced for beginners that do not stretch often or are not in excellent condition.
Yes. Find a good teacher. Research PNF stretching. Get books by Pavel Tatsouline, and another called the Genious of Flexibility. Drink lots of water, stretch in the morning after cardio or strength exercises. Hold stretches for 10-30 seconds, multiple sets. Strengthen and stretch opposing muscles. Use tension throughout the stretch, do not bounce and listen to your body.
Use Tom Kurtz's stretching methods, I could do frontsplits in 3 months, it would have been faster if I used his method earlier though. You'll be able to do it without warm up.
I have never felt so inadequate as I feel after watching this master in action yet so inspired to strive for greatness and allow the juniors the same admiration, the road will be long but I take you on this journey with me thank you.
hi scott yes the slapping does 2 things if you slap muscle it makes for better bloodflow as healthy muscle should be like dogh when relaxed.then if you hit your tendons while stretching it will shock, then release the pressure allowing you to stretch further.people with heavy frame set or muscular build will generaly be unable to flex like this guy but can normaly create more power so its give and take
I think the slapping is to shake the muscles & promote blood flow to those areas. Also you should be relaxed when stretching, a relaxed muscle will shake when slapped.

It's not how long you stretch, it's how often and what method(s) you use and how you recover, eat, rest, etc... 1 hour every day could be too much.

I just started at aged 35 and am practicing about 4 days/week for 1 hr/day.
It takes a bit longer for your body to acquire muscle memory at this age, but this should not dissuade you.

How often should I do flexibility workouts? Everyday? Or is it better like muscle training to give atleast 72h of rest between the sessions?
And If I'll do everything right, how fast can I expect to do a full split? I'm male 21y old.
