Yeah...she has great insight through here own development "issues" It's ironic because she's actually an incredibly wise person because she's listens and learns first, then reaches conclusions. Autism is a disorder, not a developmental issue, and that's something that took a lot of people a long time to know the difference between. If more people thought like Grandin, our world would be a much much better place. It's a good thing Zuckerburg heads Facebook...he is of the same mind :-)
It's shown in the movie that the reason she tried the squeaze shoot was that she had a sign on the door to a room her aunt had her stay in when she was staying there on her aunt's farm when she was preparing for her college years. The thing was the maid came in and opened the window, causing a breeze to blow the sign off the outside of the door. That was the idea for the squeaze machine she made on her first day of college, but people thought she made the first one for sexual use.
I'm an Aspie and but I don't like Zuckerberg, he took all the money and cheated out his friend. That's why I'm considering leaving Facebook in protest.

This woman is amazing! I watched the movie and hadn't even known who she was. I can't believe they don't teach about her in school! She is incredible!
@N330AA In her defense, I don't think that an autistic diagnosis has ever been made with any more than anecdotal evidence (eg. DSM-IV). Maybe Temple is just an odd old woman with a PhD and an unusual style of dress who rode the Autism bandwagon to fame and fortune... Also, Einstein may have been having a bad hair day ;-)
Thank God for her! She is helping so many people who are just a little different - or a great deal different from others. I love her word "neurotypical". It shoud be added to everyone's dictionary. We all experience the world differently. We learn differently. I had a long, difficult haul through school because of some of these issues. People with even the mildest form of this disorder fight against being called stupid all the time. She is so right!

I have aspergers to me it is a case of ying and yang. As a child i was probably like dennis the menace. People are equaly smart, each person just excels and lapses in diferent areas. As i got older i became a social interaction sponge. I love learning how people behave and interact. But for me to be social i have to conciously revise these things. I hate when people don't like me just because i forget to be social. I am not a bad person just forgetful

@Ecosse57 i've read about scientist who said the reason the autism gene survived is as you say "their purpose is unique" so instead of getting left behind they got recognition for being what they were ;)
@Ecosse57 My point is; disorders don't exist at all. It's all about what gets to live or not. Survival of the fittest, more or less. If autistic/adhd/smart people are the ones that will get humanity forward, then believe me, we'll all be begging to have their babies in a few decades.
Just think about, being fat was associated with ferility, being rich and wealthy not too long ago. When food wasn't plenty available as it is now.
I`ve been intrigued with Temple ever since I watched the movie with Claire Danes. She`s so inspiring and I`ve learned a lot about animal rights and autism by watching her.
Amazing woman. Since my son was diagnosed with autism, I have read several different books about the subject and the one that I recommend the most is by Temple Grandin titled "Thinking in Pictures". Great insight and highly informative! Thank God for Temple Grandin.
Only on a Canadian talk show do we see interviews with retards...''sigh''. Why can't we get some high profile celebrity guests instead! Bieber why have you deserted us!!
@Counterbrilliance That was a disgusting comment, Temple is an amazing person who DESERVES more than this! I don't know how anyone could say anything so low!
@thegogogoats Unfortunately this female is part of the "reality tv" generation. She's 21 and seems to hate herself with a name like counterbrilliance. Wonder if she realizes it's an oxymoron. She cares more about non-talented teen pop stars then genuinely great people contributing to the world in a positive way,
@thegogogoats Everybody is entitled to an opinion... besides, I think that Counterbriliance`s "Justin Beiber" reference clearly demonstrated that the post was subtly tongue-in-cheek.
Just watched her film....I am very amazed about what she archieved in her life as an autism person. And if you listen to her, she doesnt even sound as a autism person. Wow.........a big respect to her
George Stroumboulopoulos is an awesome interviewer....I like that he's not in some suite and tie sitting behind a desk...his attitude and body language put people at ease.
@chestercooner He really is a fantastic interviewer, but he didn't have to do too much here. Temple had her bullet points and she was hitting them all.
My son is 10 and has aspergers. He watch the movie and was glued to it. Most of the time if it isn't about Spider-man or PS3 or a Pixar film, you can't get him interested. But he was really engaged in what was going on in the movie and her life.
Strombo shows his interviewing chops by offering a few key questions and letting Temple Grandin speak her piece. Good interview and a fascinating interviewee.
