  • Too long didn't read

  • This is so fucking cool.

  • These sounds are fucking up my tv!

  • LOL! I'm laughing. Is that just a note on the video game!?! They put that there to see if people would do something to see what it means and it turns out to be just some credits! XD OMG I love you creators of Portal.

  • OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW MY EARS

  • its fine, i didn't need m ears anyway.

  • Budget if less than $100, either they are that smart or they have the Chineese doing programming as well an manufacturing the aperature equipment ( no racism intended)

  • Somebody know how to MAKE a SSTV image decoding?

  • Basically, its a PowerPoint slide pitching the ARG (probably the same one the person who came up with it pitched to the heads of Valve as a means of promoting the second game).

  • My ears...they hurt.

  • @RecycledClock lower your volume next time

  • "Portal 2 Announcement ARG. Created by people working on Portal 2. Intended for enthusiastic super fans. Budget of less than $100." LMAO.

  • "Combined might of internets is terrifying."

    Agreed.

  • Progresso?

  • it said something about a phone number.......

  • OW, my ears...

  • @CheesyTiger141 Turn down the volume?

  • RIP headphone users

  • @TheBugugly I'm still alive

  • @TheBugugly It wasn't that bad.

  • Transmitted about 20 MB of data *garbled text*

is Transmitted about 20 MB of data in total

  • i was having RX SSTV on and you made me decode...

  • it's like you tried to kill head phone users like me

  • @Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii97 i know right, my ears have received irreversible damage.

  • RIP headphone users

  • Alien computer?

  • I don't get why the picture is so garbled, I did it and mine turned out just fine (straight, clear, no sync issues and with only a small amount of corruption, but not much more than most Portal 1 SSTV images). Maybe it's because I turned off the music completely and recorded directly off of the headphone jack.

  • @DeloreandudeTommy I think that's exactly why. All those other sounds interfered with the signal, and it probably wasn't transmitted well in the uploader's case. A headphone jack is a good idea.

  • @CyborgNinja7 I'll post a video of the "clean" decodings if you want.

  • is there no way to decode portal and portal 2 with mac?

  • Portal 3. Location: Moon

  • That is fucking awesome how you can put an image into audio.

  • STILL no hints at Episode 3? *sigh*

  • @GhostLink92 Well, actually, hidden in Portal 2 is a lifesaver from the Borealis...

  • @ed1222 While I was giddy to find that, I was sort of hoping for a bit more. Like finding Alyx at the end of the DLC instead of a friggin crow... -_-

  • @GhostLink92 And I quote Gabe Newel from 5 years in the future:

"Now, for the game you all have been waiting so eagerly for.

    Left 4 Dead 3."

  • "*garbled text* to hande calls, custom PHP script looping through

plot fragments and home-made ANSI-art conversions of

    Portal 2 artwork"

What I'm reading the "garbled text" part as looks like ngetty, which is indeed a real program that "starts login sessions on virtual console terminals, on demand" (taken from the ngetty website)

Other than that and your "handle" typo, I don't really have much to comment on except that my ears feel really bad now

  • @eparesa Noted, thank you.

  • how do i decode stuff? please respond !!!!

  • @snarkbaited Okay, here's a simple step by step guide on how to decode SSTV signals:

    Step 1: READ THE DESCRIPTION.

    Step 2: ???

    Step 3: PROFIT!

  • @waze3174 '

ah, thanks mate. i never look into descriptions, sorry :) ive been looking for this program for so long !!!

  • wow. I wouldn't have the time, resources, or patience to decode something like this. my hat is off to you. The amount of detail put into all of this is stunning.

  • Well i call it ear rape

  • So, I downloaded that software but I couldn't seem to get it to work. How do you use it exactly???

  • valve are fuckin geniouses

  • how loud does it need to be so i can get a clear picture!? i dont want to wake my parents up lol

  • @ViNFaMoUsZz Its not a question of loudness its more about the purity of the sound itself. Every dropped kilobypesecond is a dropped area of the RGB code in the picture. Background noise makes it even worse. So yr best bet is to record it in a VERY silent room with no chances of echo (under a blanket?) and with the best quality u can get the sound with.

  • @Traat912 I got it now i had to do it outside

  • In second or first image has a date of half life tell: time to........'slave' 7 hours that's menas the 7 hour war

  • @rjjjjjjjekileje time to solve:7 hours :D thats how long the game is !

  • "Transmitted about 20 MB of data in total"

  • Oh and the garbled text after "Transmitted about 20 MB of data" is likely "in total"

  • On slide 3, where it says "*garbled text* to handle calls" the garbled text is "mgetty" a linux program that allows terminals (ttys) over a modem. Google "man mgetty" without quotes.

  • Option -> Setup MMSSTV -> Auto Slant

  • best i could make out about the *garble* next to handle calls was,

"getty" the actual word could be a synonym for "created" or "made for"

  • hey waze whrere you said "grabled text, about 20 mb of data, garbled text" actually read "transmitted about 20 MB of data"

i dont know what was in the small letters

  • @Mii2626 Noted, thank you.

  • @waze3174 The small text after data is "in total" theres a video on the sidebar with better res >>

  • i knew GLaDOS was a fucking linux

  • im getting somthing but its very unclear can i get some help?

  • I did use the decoder program and played dinosaur21.wav

    A picture came :D

  • taken a closer look at that last transmition look at the background

  • @marten3451 What do you mean?

  • @DantonTheWerewolf on one of the image it looks like a science lab on 1:58 look closer

  • that hurts my ears

    im serrious

    but still a graet vidio

  • I think tt would have been cool if they hinted hl3 in this but oh well this is still awesome

  • Bulletin Board System. Portal ARG. It's kinda complicated! Final Transmission and stuff. Its all coded in Alpha Numbers...

Combined mights of outer spaces is terrifying.

    Space Core: SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE

    Also, nice video.

  • awesome

  • hw do we set it up after we download for poral 2

  • Combine with Valve's CRAZY DEVELOPERS is terryfying, imo.

  • how the hell do u do this?!

  • I'm looking at some better res pictures, the garbled text is "mgetty to handle calls" and "Transmitted about 20 MB of data in total"

  • First garbled word looks like *getty (possibly agetty), which opens a tty in Unix systems. Makes sense since the line above says "Old PC running Linux."

  • Gah. Typo.

  • Combine might of internets is terrifying.

  • Well, it was a commentary node, which is supposed to talk about the game. And here, Adam talked about the game. Adam you sneaky dude

  • can we encode a picture?

  • ...For some reason whenever I play this video the computer still makes noises.

    People counting, and random babbling.

  • Um, My RX-SSTV produces very bad pictures. It looks like a mess of colors with black lines. Can you help me fix it?

  • If they used a Linux computer to do this, do you think they will release Steam for Linux? THAT WOULD BE SOOO SWEET!!! !:D

  • my ears hurt....

  • "-Estimated time to 'solve': 7 hours

    - Actual time to solve: 7 hours 16 minutes"

BULLSHIT! i completed portal 2 in 5 hours!... and found all the easter eggs while i was at it...

  • @starter656

They were referring to the ARG, not Portal 2 itself.

  • lol, I'm the 9001th viewer!

  • @darkjedi252 OVER 9000?!

  • does anyone notice the background of the transmission you can hear the faithplate fly sound

  • Such a cool secret, Valve

  • valve, you are so cool.

  • the garbled text around the 20 MB of data appears to be:

*Transmitted* about 20 MB of data *in total*

  • Watch this with your mic one and with RK-SSTV open! COOL

  • When I do, my image is verry unclear, can you help me tweak it?

  • @a2real2original2name well, i'm using RX-SSTV, and i didn't do any tweaks so maybe try to use that instead, the link is in the description.

  • @waze3174 still nothing. I used MMSSTV and RX-SSTV but on each one , the image is verry unclear. But thnks annyway for a reply.

  • @a2real2original2name

    1.download GcfScape

    2. Open "pak01_dir.vpk" from the folder portal2 in the Steam\Steamapps\Username\Portal 2

    3. Once you've opened the file, browse to root/sound/commentary/com-arg.wav

    4. Open your SSTV decoding program of choice (mine is RX-SSTV) and play com-arg.wav through your music player.

    5. Crystal clear images (to some extent) :)

  • @gPaHaTaTa Thanks really worked !!!

  • The last line is the best.

  • @inkrat773 Yes

  • what does it all mean?

  • @harhargorilla This appears to be explaining the steps taken for the creation of the Portal ARG, a sort of meta-game that was implemented into Portal 1 via an update. It's purpose was to drop hints about Portal 2 before the actual game itself was announced, and used SSTV images hidden within radios to reveal images that eventually led to the discovery of the Aperture Laboratories BBS, where an 'image dump' revealed concept art for Portal 2.

  • @Rrajigar oh thanks!

  • @Rrajigar Oh?

  • amazing game

  • das pwnage ;D
