  • Tony Jaa is Khmer sure. But born in modern-day Thailand. It's no secret, Thailand (Siam) took Khmer land over the years. Everybody knows this.

One thing, the guy says "Sii bai" (to eat), but to use the word "Sii" is not polite. It's a low level word that was used by lower castes of people in the past.

  • Steven Koy I found what you name means dawg!!

  • Kuy dialect is from the same family as Khmer language, Mon-Khmer.

  • I think Koui-Surin is just a dialect/slang of Khmer (Cambodian) Language, just like Chinese have many dialects. Another example is English Australia use G'DAY or "Good Day" means "hello"

    Cool video, thanks...

  • yes, tony jaa is Khmer because leonardo da vinci has carving figure tony jaa in to Angkor Wat 2,000 year ago.LoL

  • Well no one is forcing them to stay in Thailand. They are more then welcome to go and live in cambodia the khmer homeland. Oh wait.. they don't wan't to. You people are clowns. Forced to become Thai citizens lol seems everything belongs to khmer to you people, can't expect much from a people with no education.

  • It's simple people. Most of Thailand used to be Khmer lands; thus Khmer Surin and others and the people were taken over by the thai invaders. Of course, the thais forced those khmers to become thai citizens, but the they are still ethnically khmer -- they just have the superficial label Thai.

  • I lik this vdo

  • i am kui from surin province thailand i proud to be born kui

i thought kui people lived in surin province more than 300000

  • Why thai-tai chinese peoples scholar always trying to invented hiding they are khmer sometimes i see kouy ,isann which one is really.

  • Clear "Tony Jaa" is a 100% Khmer descent.

We found near the Angkor Wat Temple, that our "Ancestor Khmer Koy" managed and took part to set up the Temple of Angkor Wat.

  • nothing wrong with Cambodia people many of you need to shut the fuck up about things you dont know just coz jaa is thai no nee to down Cambodians and tony jaa did not ever use Muay boran OMG boran is the old style of Muay thai with no gloves is all and khmer people are not only Cambodian they are all over southeast asia khmer is a religious set not a race

  • yo uare a fucking idiot. Khmer is not a religion. its an ethnic poeple call khmer. most people in cambodian are khmer, some are chinese, vietnamese or whatvr.

cambodian is a citizenship, but if you are khmer that mean you have khmer blood. like tony jaa who is khmer but born in thailand. and me who khmer but born in usa

u fuckin idiot. btw thai people came from china anyway and most of thailand really belong to khmer until the ladyboys stole it

  • traditional khmer is and ethnic group yeahhhhh no shit...

but today khmer is also a religious following {you look it up} in other words what im saying is khmer are not all Cambodian hence my wifes sister is khmer ( thai ) and her father does not consider himself as well there is a difference in there religious beliefs i live here guy but whatever....

  • man you are all wrong. khmer is not a religion. islam, christianity, juidism, hinduism, budhism is a religion. khmer is a race, just like, thai, chinese, french, malay

thai also come from china. and the khmer surin people are khmer race not thai. they are thai citizen but there blood is khmer.

if your wifes sister is khmer thai. it mean she is khmer, but she jsut live in thai.

  • as she said khmer is not a a religion but the khmer peoples belief system is not the same as other Buddhist there is Hindu blend in their beliefs slightly but also there are followers of the same beliefs who would consider themselves khmer who are in fact thai the depth of this is all too much lol im done caring at this point thai, khmer, Cambodian whatever still all good folks this is hurting my head mybe its the unclear English that thats throwing me off who knows

  • Lets make it simple,

    Khmer is a bloodline

Its not if you believe you're khmer its if you were born khmer.

Khmer ppl did not have a religion.. they just adapted to a belief system when they started trading with indians (hindu) and then chinese (Buddhist) so they believed in both systems making them hindu buddhists but i think different, i think khmer's true religion is black magic

  • well koui is practically the same as khmer...everybody back then were jungle people so makes no differents really...

  • now i kno.. so tony jaa is Kuy, and Kui are from Surin.. and surin was part of the khmer empire back in the day.. so ppl think jaa is khmer.. but he's actually a true Kuy!

  • why do you think most of SEA was all hindu at one time most of the temples dating back 1000 years ago was all hindu

  • So is koui kind of like another dialect of khmer?

  • no its a different ethnic group of south east asia? but its part of the larger group of mon-khmer languages?

  • Kmangsren, can Tony Jaa speak Khmer? Is he part Khmer? People give Tony Jaa Kuy identity but many Khmer surin fighters don't get Khmer identity. I think it is about time that Thailand allows multi-ethnic groups in Thailand to connect to their roots and proud to do so not feeling inferior about them.

  • he speak Thai,Issan/Lao,Koui and little KHmer

really race of him is "Koui"

all race are Human we have equal right

don't anybody curious about this our life in Thailand are Freedom we can do all culture

  • Fuck Thailand. You people are sell outs and say & represent khmer martial arts is Muay Thai. It is not Thai. You people are sad. stay away from our temples and go suck the Siamese dick.

  • Your mind Sick ?

  • หุบปากไปน่า สรินก็เมื่องไทยนั้นเเระ ไอฟายยย

    จะฟักก้อฟักป้ามิงเหอะ

  • please show some respect to cambodia

if you dont know history then pls dont post your comments

  • Tony is not part khmer. He is Khmer. His ethnicity is Khmer but nationality wise he's Thai since he was born and raised in Thai. The Thai government doesn't like them speaking Khmer, so they only speak Khmer when they're at home. If you watch the interview he did on CTN, he says "Khmer Kun Boran Yeung" Which means OUR ancient khmer martial arts.

  • in fact teacher who teach matial art to Tony Ja is Thai and Tony Ja use Muay Thai Boran.

  • Thai think about the stability of our country, Thainization is use for it. to make people to be Thai culture. Sure we never have ethics 's war in our country except 3province in Southern Thailand with Malay ethic.

  • Khmers Battambong use standard khmer. If you use standard Khmer according to written language standardized by Samdach Chhunath, I think we can agree because every region has it own accent.Just like in America, Black Englis is different from the standard English but when it comes to academic writing we use standard English. For causal conversation it is no right or wrong ways to speak but if you going to give a speech for a big audience you want people to understand you so you use standard Enlish

  • khmer surin in thailand khmer kadal in cambodia and us khmer krom in vietnam =]

  • yes

  • Our Khmer language is DEEP, yo!

  • In khmer its not really polite to say "si" as in to eat, nor to say "aing" as in me/mine.

  • "sii" is normal word in my khmer-surin language we still speak as ancient .

  • ban ey sii bai.....i like this lol

  • Yes,great

  • oddar mean chey it is okay to say si and aing. We use aing all the time.

  • oh, its interesting because in my language.. "si" mean to eat too, and me/mine is "ai"..

and i speak cantonese with a village dialect

  • I don't know about you guys but from what I have been researching for a long whiles... I believe many of the words that modern day Khmer people use now are words borrowed from Chun, Yuun, & Siam words now... back in the days it was Kh'marrrreee (rolling R's) but now it's Kh'my. The reason for the change is because the Khmers with Chun descent couldn't roll their R's correctly. If you ever wondered about Phnom Penh it's populated with many Chun Khmer people there...

  • Yes,khmer in the city speak khmer in Youn, china descent . khmer really khmer sound/voice is the NorthernKHmer

  • really dude our language came from sanskrit a ancient indian language and the real khmers are dark skin if there a lighter color that means there was mixed with a different race khmers came from india just like the koui and the burmese and cham the thais are from southern china just like loas and vietnam and the shan so really we are all not that different its just where we live changed our language but not our culture

  • thats interesting, i thot the khmer surin speak khmer mix with some thai. didn't know they got their own lil language.

  • all ethnic have own language. Tony Jaa is "Koui ethnic" they have their own language

  • Who are the Kui people? Are they of the Khmer people too? Are they of the Lao/Tai people? Where are they originated from anyway? Why are they in the Khmer territory?

  • Koui is the ethnic in North-East of thailand and in the North of Cambodia too they speak very different from Khmer .

  • surin is and siem reap speak khmer very beautiful i love when they roll their tongue so unique from other asian language. i wish we never adopted the vietnames/chinese way of speaking our own language

  • Who is speaking Chinese or Vietnamese?

  • not many khmer people know that surin accent is ancient khmer accent. many people think its because khmer mix thai but its false. khmer siem reap speak with the same accent. ancient khmers speak rolling their tongues alot. most khmer nowadays speak with a chinese or vietnamese accent.. for example ancient khmer would say door as in teaRRrrR rol tongue like surin and siem reap people. most khmer now say tveah ( meaning door ) and dont roll tongue. watch extreme khmer episode it tells u all this

  • You are Right ! The accent we still pronouncing as ancient , but in dailylife we use some Thai words in the sentence becaues it's fast to speak when we don't know how to speak in Khmer.

.... Khmer accent in the city in srok khmer sound look like Youn and China , i don't like....

  • I dont think surin accent is ancient khmer accent. It is just some difference accent throughout the region. Khmer accent, in central, nowadays is completely differente from which of chinese, vietnames or thailand. Actually we pronounce by our own words.

  • my khmer brother, study more about the khmer language and you will find that only 150 years ago everyone had the same accent as khmer siem reap and khmer surin. study the tonal and monotonal languages. dig deeper into your roots and you will find many things. i did not know either until i studied more. then again if your too lazy to read watch the " extreme khmer" episode right here on youtube about surin people it will tell u ( its a white guy studying the khmer language)

  • Your khmer brother studies khmer literature at University? Any documentary say about ancient khmer ancient? The white guy, he just a simple learner, not khmer literature researhcer and his movies show about khmer surin life but not khmer accent history. Big thanks to him too. Right now, i dont have any proof to show which one is ancient khmer accent, you have? I travel around many province, people speak with some difference intonation through region. However, i love khmer.

  • I've read somewhere that Khmer language actually differs from Thai and Laotion language in that it is not a "tonal language".

To me, the Surin language sort of has the Tonal accent like the Thais and Laotion language.

I've watched the extreme Khmer episodes about Khmer Surin. I don't recall him mentioning that 150 years ago, all khmers had the Surin accent.

Khmer Surin land was originally Khmer land anyways. So either way, we're all Khmer right?

  • I actually say Surin is further from the original Khmer than the standard dialect.

  • Surin is not the original Khmer, as any linguist will tell you Surin is the dialect furthest away from standard Khmer if you don't include the incomprehensible western dialect. Most Khmers nowadays do not speak with a Chinese dialect, get your facts straight. The central dialect is the one closest to standard Khmer.

  • im wondering how many khmer surin are live in thailand? do u guy still speak khmer ?

  • we live normally same Thai or other ethnic ,we are freedom we can speak khmer everywhere. Yes i still speak khmer about 1.5 million still speak khmer in Thailand.

  • im khmer koui chinese. i showed this to my aunt (my dad's older sister) and she laughed. she only remember some words in koui because they didnt really speak it. she speaks khmer and thai. thanks for the video

  • ooh....

  • i try to write khmer in my accent, ok ?

  • ok!

  • Kui are more related to Khmer because they speak a MON-KHMER language, not Sino-tibetan like thai or Lao.

  • Yes,i know and the Koui peoples love to speak khmer too, we are counsin.

  • I want an elephant,How much is it going to cost? If I can buy one I'll go and live there with the suay people and maybe mary a suay girl or something ha!

  • Surin province my man, Ampermuaungsurin. where do you live? what is the name of your villeage

  • Pheasa khmer surin "som or koon" tha mek toeuw?

  • same

  • the kuoi people are more closly related to the khmer people since they use the same letters. they are essential one in the same just like how the taiwanese and chinese are the same or catonese and mandarin are different in dialect, but the same in letters. im not sure what i am saying is right?

  • Koui don't have letter

  • Thanks for educated the kuiou language . Is there any Kuious who live in Surin ? i know where i come from there some kuiou live in Kompong Thom province . Those people are very nice and honest as my Grand father had told me .

  • thanks

  • that mean they speak three languages khmer, koui, thai? i'm going nut.

  • Some Koui peoples can speak 4 languages ( Khmerleu ,lao, thai and Koui) some Koui villagers they cannot speak khmer . now khmersurin language is important in daily life now the Koui peoples try to speak khmer

  • Good job my man!I want elephant, how much is it?

  • hahaha you cannot buy it but you can give the food to them

  • Interesting :)

  • cool thing. very good you clarify for all. Its time the Kuoi people and other minorities get their credit for their contributions and success. More indigenous and minority power! Good job Phnom Yerum!

  • very intresting but i thought elephant was spelled with daw but who knows i am very bad at spelling.

  • i spelling in my (Surin) accent ( Tomrey )

  • w0w finally people mention koui people...im koui woohoo

  • qwerkybrain honey, let tony jaa speak for himself what and where he came from. do you know history? I believe the thais were prisoners from south china. the thai true essence is to steal, lie, and manipulate.

  • Tony jaa last name is phnom?! Mine is Phnom too!!! Maybe we are related?!

  • Jaa is his nickname

    Phnom is his first name
