I can't help but worry about the cultural whitewashing that is going on here. Sure, it was a great thing that the parents adopted and I think this should happen more, but I also think they should take some serious, intentional steps to connect the child to his cultural roots.

My Grandmother, in the late 60's, raised a child from 2 months to 3 years old. She was not allowed to adopt him, and he was taken away at a fragile age, because he was mixed race and the state felt he should be placed with a "colored" family.
