The flourish toward the end...around 4:50...is just amazing...can anyone describe or clarify his pick and finger (looks like mainly middle finger) technique? Looks like hes dragging or helping along notes note hit with the pick in between strokes...very innovative...i think Greg Howe really does this too...any help?
God sometimes when 'tired of classical music and Paganini's violin calls him and says "Hey Shawn, bring your guitar and let me have fun with your shredding ...."
@Zaspor Very sad, he was so amazingly good. I feel like he played the guitar just like i would like to play it. I recognise many of his ideas in my own style, it helps alot when trying to learn "esperanto". Really my all time favorite guitarist
Seeing this always makes me feel good. I remember playing this vid on my phone over the Thanskgiving holiday, as I cruised around town. Good memories.
Dude, I don't know why you were given thumbs down... I guess some non- fans were clueless to to the fact that Shawns nick name was the MEMPHIS MONSTER!
He was a such a master player and may he rest in peace but his solo is off the mark on this one. He just loses the feel of the song and vibe. Mike Stern's original recording of it is the way to go. RIP
i dont thing this could be tabed from someone else but shawn and unfortuned he is in heaven now left us early and i thing he is teaching god how to play now
this is one of my favorite covers as well. you should post a version of atosha. i love that...although is it just me, or is the verse better than the chorus?
First time I've heard Shawn sweep haha. feels kinda awkward :P

I wonder if Stern was aware of S L . Shawn's tone is so killer , so full even on this recording with a single mic .

@GuitarsOfArp Yeah, some type of disease that made him gain weight and eventually killed him in 03'.

Great!
But Shawn didn't use the G303 with the guitar synth on that one - he'd only plugged in the regular cable, not the synth one!

He's playing a Roland G303 guitar, I guess through a GR-series synth (Roland again). It sounds like he's got the guitar side going at the same time.
