  • Good tips, all the engineers I've worked with always want me UP ON the mic, nice that you're trying different ways to get different effects- thanks for posting!

  • Thank you! i like this guy. he knows what he is saying.

  • Wow!

  • THANK YOU BRO

  • Just found this guy. wicked informative vids. Awesome

  • great Advice thanks...

  • what kind of mic and stand is that

  • don't know if this is the correct wording, but how do I get that breathy/whispery R&B background vocal

  • @marcusflair68 I believe it's reverb and eq'ing ,boosting a bit of high frequency somwhere between 12khz and 20khz (try 16) also try eq'ing your reverb return if your using it as a send cutting all low frequencies .

  • Thanks a lot! That was extremely helpful!!!

  • I like this technique of Ambient tracking. Another must is having your back-up vocals sing to tape, three times.. Three is the magic number. The human ear cannot pick out which vocal may be out of tune slightly so the whole mix sounds correct to the listener and has a beefy sound. Best old school trick I've used that works for those not so great background vocalists. The days before auto-tune. :)

  • you got Ears man*****

  • Thanks a million

  • i would like to record with you ... because you have onest eyes... i trust you for some reason....

  • interesting little tips to remember. keep 'em coming. anything i can help you with?

    Benson and Tonic

  • Nice techniques. Another one I like is to use different mics for different character. Using omni pickup pattern instead of cardioid also changes the close-up frequency response and it doesn't suffer from the proximity effect (boomy bass). Useful for backing vocals. Also, having stereo mics set up close to the singer can help give the backing vocals some 3D depth when subtly introduced into the mix. It also helps with stereo movement, so the backing vocals aren't fixed or stationary in the mix.

  • This guy is great!!

  • Great vid. Background vocals play an important role in music. Here's a video I made dedicated to them: /watch?v=JWqZPpjddk8

  • Khaliq, you are a true inspiration, I have searched and read a lot of stuff about recording, mixing and all that, but nothing comes close to the good practical stuff that you deliver, advice that can make the beginner sound good, and the advanced sound great. You are a true teacher, I would love to see more of your wisdom in audio and music. Thank you. Graal Productionz.
