Sorry to hear that.....Durrel provided a lot of good supplies.........bet some folks got a few of his 10 tune nickelodeon frames...stopped once and chatted with him......sad news..
Sounds great.....I restored antique music machines...unusual to see a Steinway with an Ampico...the Duo Art is great...but nasty to work on....Ampico is my favorite too....used to buy supplies from Wichita...Player Piano Co. I think....fella named Armstrong......thanks for posting
I'm sorry to say Durrell (Armstrong) passed away a few months ago. There was a huge auction at Player Piano Co. a while back---everything had been broken down to unrecognizable parts---a real dog's breakfast of random mechanisms. Another Wichita institution bites the western dust...
I love these Wurlitzer organs. I grew up in Knoxville,TN where the Tennessee theater is located. It was built in 1925 and has the original Wurlitzer organ inside. The entire theater was restored. The organ was sent out west and fully restored. The Dean of the Univ. of TN plays it. It is not only a beautiful theater, but a beautiful red organ. If you're ever in Knoxville, go see it.
Wonderful method of production showing piano + organ! One minor criticism, more like a teechnical question: At chorus at 1:00, you use glock stabs. Wouldn't it have been a whole lot easier to use Solo to Acc 2nd touch rather than flying up 3 manuals to grab the glock? Perhaps that stop is non-existent (not likely) or not working (can ALWAYS happen) I'm a tech nut, So I always ask stuff like that. If you want one on my Videos, ask why I use crosshand fingering on my version of 'Roundabout' .
I've got the Tuba/Diap/Tibia registered in the ACC 2nd touch (to use for counter-melodies and accents) and don't much care for changing ACC pistons back and forth just to get the Glock in. Plus, the Solo Octave coupler is on as well. So, it's actually simpler to zip up to the SOLO for the bells. (Looks more impressive, too!)
Thanx for the explanation! I love getting into the whys and wherefores of such things. It's how I learn. I know the feeling about changing Accomp pistons. On my 3/18, all the 2nd touch is neutral so I could not do that no matter what. Guess I didn't watch close enough to see that you were already accenting Accomp with the basic big 8' stops. BTW Just had a go at the Atlanta Fox last week. Beautiful sounding and beautifully kept organ. Stuff sure is in different places than on WurliTzers.
Hi houshp, yes Jim is at the Worthing Assembly Rooms Worthing England on April 27th. I saw him there 2 years ago and it was the best concert there ever. I wish the Sussex Organ Trust would advertise these concerts more.
Jim Thank you for sharing these with us words can not discribe these memorable sounds, people like you are keeping them alive. One day we wil not hear these sounds that time can never replace. I have a Yamaha Viscount, the flagship, but obviusly does not sound like this. Thanks and weel done.
I didn't think the video's of Jim on the Wurlitzer could get any better, but you just took it to another level. The phrasing and interpretation of the the music is superb. "Please Sir Can I Have Some More"
Just wonderful. I think this is my favorite of all the "Phantom Duets" so far (and they are ALL GREAT). - it has a happy bounce to it that leaves you smiling. Another winner, Jim!
Cool Video!
