As I implied in comments to the first part, this performance of Elektra--which I saw live nearly 20 years ago--is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest vocal/acting triumphs of 20th century opera. Thank goodness (and thanks to ezev8logos) that it has been preserved for perhaps another century on the Internet.
Thirty minutes of greatness; everyone involved in this performance was as if possessed, and the Recognition is almost unbearably moving. This has always been my favorite of the Strauss operas, with ARABELLA in second place.
