  • Minor quips, sidesteps or or abbreviations in the liturgy are often the result of honest ignorance or simple practical necessity. What is disturbing about so many liturgical innovations since the 1960's is that 1. they are obviously done deliberately and for the sake of "changing" what is supposed to be immutable, 2. they are justified with the obscure label "Spirit of Vat. II" and 3. the liturgy of Paul VI appears to be loose enough not merely to accommodate but to encourage such practices.

  • Deo Gratias!

  • Proof that regardless of what country your in the Catholic Church never changes!!

Nice to see fellow Catholics in other countries venerating our Lord on the day of his birth.

  • the style of dalmatic has changed since the late gothic..;-) I prefer the carolingian and ravenna styles, as well as no organ accompaniment which is very annoying. Also the hymn should be at the end not the beginning, that is a bizarre vatican II aftermath practice.

Saint Benedict describes the hymn as coming in the middle of the office, after the chanting of the psalms, lesson and short response.

  • @LiturgicalChants the hymns have been rearranged long before Vat. II. The offering of a hymn before the office is not an uncommon practice from before Vat. II

While priests ordinarily may not have prayed the Divine Office in this manner before, it wasn't uncommon for religious communities to have little changes such as this. Not everyone sang the hymns in the same places but everyone did, and still does, pray the same words of the Office.

  • @spasjt spasjt, you are an apologist for something that is untrue.. Regardless if the change began illicitly before 1962 It is against established tradition. No version of the divine office in any eastern or western tradition has ever began with a hymn.

You could listen to "Hildegard of Bingen: Lauds of Saint Ursula by Ensemble Organum" audio cd. It is an authentic portrayal of 12th century benedictine lauds. The hymn is toward the end.

  • @LiturgicalChants let me remind you that the "illicitly" you speak of is not against Tradition. The so called 'bizarre' changes of Vat. II was the result of an authentic Council of the Church just like previous Council's i.e. Nicea, Ephesus, Lyons or Lateran.

The hymn being sung in the beginning which you think is misplaced is in fact in its proper place. The hymns for the Divine Office are printed in the front of all the prayers. I think it is you who are mistaken.

  • @LiturgicalChants - You're bent out of shape for nothing. At 1:32 the video skips past the Psalmody. It resumes near the end of the Responsorium Prolixum, whereupon the hymn begins in its proper place.

Christ excoriated legalism more harshly than every other sin. "You tithe mint and anise and cumin...this you should have done, without omitting weightier matters of the Law." Why should we quibble (errantly) over Church tradition on hymn placement, but ignore it in our personal comportment?

  • notevole!!

  • bene bene! ci siamo!

  • Che stile!!!... What a wonderful ceremony!
