  • They say what cannot be said. They speak my mind for me. This song is the spark to the fuse.

  • well, i don't know if this is the best Star that the Dead ever played but it certainly is one of the cleanest versions I've ever heard...thanks a million for bringing this gem to us!

  • @botvinnik64 - glad i could. thank you

  • The Takla Makan desert and Tarim Basin in Central Asia seem visible at 2:55.

  • I was THERE, 16 years old. Later saw Zappa in same theatre. Glorious baroque balconies, red velvet curtains, excellent acoustics. Takes me back, thanks to the person who posted.

  • DeadFriends, you are invited to enjoy a unique, in-depth master class on the original Dark Star off Live/Dead. Concentration is placed on exploring the individual and group improv concepts that are used to create this masterpiece of improvisation. You'll DIG this, promise:)

Open a box of wine, type in "Dave Frank" Dark Star on YT:)

  • i could listen to this all day. i don't think music gets any better.

  • As per usual and when I find one of the Grateful Dead songs that I love, there are like a zillion great versions. Sheesh! There is like only 24 hours in a day =)

  • Excellent Video - I've just been reading 'A Long Strange Trip' Dennis McNally (AKA Scrib)'s book about the Dead and it is wonderful to see images of the Bus and Neil and the Pranksters here.

    Thank you.

  • @FifthnLincoln - You're welcome. Very cool....!

  • +5

  • Divine song. And beautiful video, good job on that!

  • @FriendlyShadow1 - thank you..!

  • Would you happen to know where I can find the audio to this concert at?

  • @sciencekiller7689 - hi... yeah, another case where its streaming over at live archive, but no mp3 downloads available.

  • Listening to this during the Lunar Eclipse.

  • @sicof065 - coooool...!

  • Great footage of Cowboy Neal and Kesey, 'one flew east, one flew west...'; must have been a blessed existence from my perspective...

  • hi geekorthodox9 - yeah, i found those from some Prankster home movies uploaded here at youtube.

  • Great clear sound quality, so much different in some ways from their energy toward this song from the previous year--perhaps more relaxed but far from casual--it is always fun to guess at who is leading the direction of the music at any one point of time in this piece, lots of push and pull but always crisp and decisive.

I began to enjoy the dead long ago--'searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion' and 'shackled in chains of illusion, delusion of living and dead'--and still do.

  • So.... do you have to be on drugs to get this?

  • @StephanieLives No.... you don't.

  • @StephanieLives This IS the drug. ;)
