Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album 'Unhinged' which is greatly inspired by great bands such as Ulver. You can stream or download the full album for free on my youtube channel!
This group does incredible music & video, very progressive & experimental, industrial, generally extremely gorgeous singing & sound, nearly orchestral at times. I love all their work & the vocals in this one are sublime.
This is far more sophisticated than black metal. I think what happened is they grew as musicians. I used to love metal... 8-10 years or so ago when I was a kid, then my horizons broadened and I realized music has much more to offer.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily influenced by the music of Ulver. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!
This is being said about a lot of bands but imo Ulver is one of the most underrated bands ever. Tho I prefer the old blackmetal Ulver the new material impresses every time.
How could ulver possible justify making this crap instead of old school black metal? Dude, what happened? Is this what Ulver has to resort to to get fans?
How could ulver possible justify making this crap instead of old school black metal? Dude, what happened? Is this what Ulver has to resort to to get fans?
jjjajajaja a think thats ulver irs a real musician now,hes early records are good, but now its amazing music. you are a ¨metalhead¨ jxdxdxdxd its stupid as metlaheads thing and love the music
black metal xdxdxd you listen dimmu borgir or satanic warmaster and you thing is better that ulver you are so funny boy
@G0dher0 I love their Black Metal stuff also, but did you not hear the shit ton amount of epic in this song? You probably listen exclusively to metal though, just like I used to. Let me tell you that it really fucks up your listening experiences and your ability to enjoy regular music. openmindedness is not a bad thing.
@G0dher0 Oh yeah cause making your music twice as experimental than it already fuckign was is by definition selling out. The fact that they got more fans is bcause every single genre in the freaking world is more popular than Metal, this brought them a more diverse fanbase for making different styles possible. Selling out means making your music accessible for everyone and radio friendly in order to grab cash. Did Ulver ever break into mainstream popularity? hell no. dont use terms you dont know
@G0dher0 They absolutely do not. You think Mainstream means being popular. Being mainstream and selling out means getting TV or Radio airplay. Things that Ulver due to their diversity will never get. Surely they've become more popular, I already agreed on that. But you are just a simple minded Metalhead who doesnt like Ulver's new sound and thus uses terms you don't know in order to prove how much they suck now. It's ok if you don't like this sound, but youre hating it for all wrong reasons
@GrimFloyo43 No, I'm not. Think about it for a second. Think about all of Ulver's black metal fans. They let us down. They don't show any respect to the guys who got them started. They don't even play music anymore, it's almost all just electronics created on computers. Even the singing is half-fake.
@G0dher0 See, here is you, not even accepting electronics as a valid genre. Also, Garm has showed a much more varied singing range on these works, so technically his singing got better. Dislike all you want. Also, any artist makes music for themselves. Ulver wanted to expand, should they be hindered because they'd think they would let their fans down? If they did they would be making the same album again and again. Mind you, Bergtatt is my favorite Ulver album. but thank god for experimentation.
@GrimFloyo43 Garm has improved his vocals, so why not put them to the test instead of using computers to edit them and water them down? Yes they can experiment. Why not do what Bathory did, or Celtic Frost? Bathory went from black to viking to thrash back to viking.. frost was a mix of 4 genres.. but why abondoned the people who got Ulver started and use computers as instruments and switch to this gayness.. Electronics is a genre, albeit a gay one..
@G0dher0 You're not even accepting Ulver as amusical act for what they are doing. You have probably heard very little Electronic music, I can't possibly see anyone hating on the entire genre as it is the broadest most diverse genre ever, with even more subgenres than all of Rock. You can't expect them to make a similar stylistic development as Bathory, if every Black Metal band took the Bathory road we'd have a very dull genre.
@GrimFloyo43 Ulver tries to be different and one dimensionally thinking metalheads like you will probably never understand that. Someone who takes a piss on an entire genre is in my opinion not a music fan. PS: Celtic Frost is great but was never really all that diverse as people make them out to be. Monotheist was quite special though.
@G0dher0 No, it wouldn't be better, it would be really really really really really funny. Tell me, do you even listen to ANYTHING outside of metal? lol
@G0dher0 Grindcore is pretty much "inside metal", if you know what I mean. You basically take the core of some metal junk and grind it as hard as you can. What comes out is grindcore, or 'crazy ear-wrecking screeching' if you prefer.
I wanna listen to this song in a car with 12" subs, its sounds like it would be a cool experience, maybe a drive in dt LA with their Perdition City playing. Yeah
Its funny to think they started out as a norwegian/folk black metal band and turned into this? Their Blood Inside album is simply a masterpiece. Their music is 'a lot', if you know what I mean. I came across the album around the age of 9, the year it was released, and to this day, I'm still listening to them, still in awe, mesmerized by their diversity, their beautiful opulence found soothingly amidst the tranquility of the melodies. A greatness I thought I wouldn't find at such a young age.
@davidfreilich i know right. but it seems a lot of black metalers have gone the way of more melodic music after a while in the BM scene because they get burnt out. but rather than overdosing or dissapearing into obscurity like burnt out punk rockers they refine their music. i never thought trip-hop would be a place for BM to go but here it is and then there is Star of Ash fronted by Ihriel and they featured Garm in a song. for those that respect talent not just BM because its BM.
@HeavyMetalUnicorn3 No black metal is as amazing as this, very few bands come close and not even Ulvers old stuff and i've been a BM fan for as long as you've been alive.
Hey everybody - I just released my solo album "Mirror Image" that contains ambient music (and upbeat electronic songs) heavily inspired by Kristoffer Rygg and the music of Ulver. If you're interested you can check out the songs on my youtube page, and links to my myspace page and places to download the full album are on my youtube channel as well :) .
@Aimitolcic Well duh I don't understand! It's like hearing a little girls high pitch scream, but directly in your ear. No one would like that....but here comes peopel like you, who somehow withstand it & actually say it's a good sound. LOL
@TalvellaMaa They are fucking awesome! Just because it isn't heavy, that doesn't make it suck! Fuck, go listen to my band and you'll see that my shit is insanely heavy, but THIS is my favorite band! And i like ALL of their albums. It takes talent to make something that doen't try to sound like anyone else, and not too many bands do that nowadays.
@BlightedJosh It doesn't have to be heavy for me to like it. I like all kinds of music, but this doesnt sound like music. I'm trying to understand, but...I cant! lol I'm not being rude, I just want you to tell me what is good about this. It's just hard to see any good in random noises.
@TalvellaMaa Nothing random about their music. Every sound and note is placed for a reason. It's not for most people, that's for sure. But they are definately good and unique.
I havent listened this band since nattens madrigal!!! Bergtatt which blowed my mind away in the 90`s and still one of my favorite albums!!! Little sounds like Arcturus... Maybe same bandmembers these days??? Sorry, i have been out of the "scene" because my own reasons!!!
Oh boo fucking hoo they don't play black metal anymore. It's not like there is a shortage of black metal bands, even of good ones. Yeah, I listen to a lot of black metal but I also listen to music in general classical, jazz, jrock, post rock, jpop, noise i.e. pretty much anything and this is great stuff. The 'trve kvlt' black metal people give people a bad name to metalheads.
@o0Evangelion20140o over all metal fans give a bad name for metal, i love metal for all the varieties of different subgenres but the fans are terrible, at least the fans that listen to it for the wrong reasons
@o0Evangelion20140o I think the problem is not that Ulver once played Black Metal, it was that they honestly recorded the greatest black metal album of all time and then said "No More" I love all their stuff but it still saddens me that they never recorded another BM album because "Nattens Madrigal" is the best of its genre.
@ananoulis1 I hardly heard how this is untalented. They have changed in music styles, but have evolved individually and this is reflected upon their music. I'd like to see something even worth comparable to Ulver created by yourself.
@GoletZ Well, how was the show? Do they just play or do they have a strong visual presence on the stage? Give me the details, man! Did they play mostly new songs, mostly old or a balanced mix of both?
@thebronzebat I know that this song in particular, and that they aren't a black metal band, I'm just saying that I like both black metal and music such as Ulver's, despite the fact that they are two totally different types of music.
Although I'm big into black metal, I also like many other types of music. This band is quite talented in their unique styles throughout each song and album. I especially get entranced in their vivid album artworks, it says a lot just as their music does.
4:20 -- Using American Manual Alphabet to sign "love" and... something else. Can anyone figure out what the second word is? The first sign in the second word is "d" but I am not catching the other two.
3:29 to 3:33 sounds very much like the church organ in the Orochimaru theme from Naruto. If you check the Orochimaru fight theme, around 0:32 to 0:36 it's nearly exactly the same bit lol.
@SonOfASubmariner27 Well actually that is not really right. because it's part of a classical composition, only problem is I don't remember what it is called, Mozart or Beethoven, I really don't remember. lots of bands and stuff use it...
@TheStarlessAeon Yes I understand, I wasn't actually trying to say that Ulver would have stolen it or something like that. I just noticed it being so similar. That's all :P
I have been listening to their older stuff (black metal trilogy) for a while now and have been wary of checking out their new music. However, I must say, this is REALLY great, probably getting Blood Inside soon.
@rddsimpson words are not music, they are far from it, and the reason you havent heard of them is because good bands never get the spotlight, have a good day :)
They are such geniuses, i like all their stuff... Black Metal or Avant-garde metal, they're music at its best! Also, is it me? Or the last part of the song sounds very Walter Carlos/ Wendy Carlos.... :D

Did they play mostly new songs, mostly old or a balanced mix of both?
livefordyingbreaths 1 year ago
@thebronzebat I know that this song in particular, and that they aren't a black metal band, I'm just saying that I like both black metal and music such as Ulver's, despite the fact that they are two totally different types of music.

How sad the fucking gothik kiddies are taking over BM. This sounds like fucking muse. Fuck you Ulver.

Ulver are not meant to be classified and they left your shitty genre long ago.
And I like some black metal, like Dissection and old Ulver.
I personally don't like this song much., oddly enough.

Although I'm big into black metal, I also like many other types of music. This band is quite talented in their unique styles throughout each song and album. I especially get entranced in their vivid album artworks, it says a lot just as their music does.

wath kind of music is this??
freackize 1 year ago
@freackize pure avant-garde... Any attempt to put these maniacs into any kind of genre would be an insult for them...
In their early career, they played black metal, but now they have evolved.

Love this band. However, it's hard to find out how they went from Black Metal to this. lol. Neither here nor there, great band, great song.

3:29 to 3:33 sounds very much like the church organ in the Orochimaru theme from Naruto. If you check the Orochimaru fight theme, around 0:32 to 0:36 it's nearly exactly the same bit lol.
How the fuck did I notice this? XD
SonOfASubmariner27 1 year ago
@SonOfASubmariner27 Haha, i also noticed some JS Bach in the end there.
grepakar 1 year ago
@SonOfASubmariner27 Well actually that is not really right. because it's part of a classical composition, only problem is I don't remember what it is called, Mozart or Beethoven, I really don't remember. lots of bands and stuff use it...
TheStarlessAeon 1 year ago
@TheStarlessAeon Yes I understand, I wasn't actually trying to say that Ulver would have stolen it or something like that. I just noticed it being so similar. That's all :P

@rddsimpson words are not music, they are far from it, and the reason you havent heard of them is because good bands never get the spotlight, have a good day :)

Ahh.. this is pretty. Very very beautiful and transcendent.
I want them to play this at my funeral, he's got a great voice.
Reminds me in some strange way of my childhood when there was no music like this, don't know why but it does.
The odd Bach reference perhaps, bach via Wakeman and Bob Ezrin who worked with Alice Cooper ? Who knows.... not me. Thnx fr the post.
